ARCHIVED Finally Taking The Plunge
GlutenFreeManna replied to Poppi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
With your own store maybe you could sell your extra chicken eggs too! I have tried to buy a quarter of beef before but the farms near me all have waiting lists that fill up mid-winter. One of these years I'm going to remember to sign up before they sell out. -
ARCHIVED Finally Taking The Plunge
GlutenFreeManna replied to Poppi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow! I live in a high cost of living area but it's not that bad. Actually, your milk prices are probably about the same as mine actually when you take into account the conversion rate between US and Canadian money. Our milk prices hovered aroun $5 back in 2008 but they have been 4 something for the last few years. Not that I've noticed lately because... -
ARCHIVED How Long Does Gluten Live In Things?
GlutenFreeManna replied to sreese68's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
As the pp's said, gluten is not "alive" so it doesn't die. I would not use those stamps if I were you. -
ARCHIVED Things To Be Thankful For.....
GlutenFreeManna replied to WinterSong's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm Thankful for: My husband who never gave up on me and has insisted our house be free of gluten as well as all the other things I'm allergic to. This website and the folks who post here. Without it I would know much less than I do and be less sure about my diagnosis. My natural love of cooking and trying new foods. My passion for research which... -

I wish you lots of luck Momma! I can't imagine spending $1600 a month to feed a family. I think you can do it gluten-free though if you stay away form the subs and order what few subs you do buy online in bulk. -
ARCHIVED Rudi's Bread ?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Mizzo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I find Rudi's to be BETTER than Udi's. It is softer and makes a better sandwich, IMO. -

I've got a corned beef brisket in the slow coooker with red onions, red potatoes, baby carrots, celery and garlic cloves. It's already smelling good. I'll toss some shredded cabbage in the last few hours of cooking. -
ARCHIVED Having A Celiac Break Down
GlutenFreeManna replied to valeriek's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Also do you have a crock pot? Check out this blog: Open Original Shared Link Everything she makes is gluten free. Some of my favorites are: Orange Chicken Turkey and wild rice soup Salsa chicken Chicken lettuce wraps Lamb with Rosemary and Lemon Meat loaf fajitas Tortilla soup And those are just the ones that don't require cheese or soy... -
ARCHIVED Having A Celiac Break Down
GlutenFreeManna replied to valeriek's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are lots of horrible gluten-free breads out there, but don't let that stop you from trying another type or brand. Udi's or Rudi's seem to be the favorites on this board. I've also heard Katz is pretty good but I haven't tried that one. gluten-free breads will not be exactly the same as gluteny bread but if you toast them (or make a grilled cheese... -
ARCHIVED I Didn't Go To Book Club Today...
GlutenFreeManna replied to Katrala's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been in a similar situation only worse. My group meets at Panera Bread once a month. I have found I am so sensitive to the flour in the air that I get sick from even walking into a Panera. I tried just going and getting an iced tea. I was glutened. BAD. Then I tried going with my own drink in a insulated mug. I was still glutened. Both times... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Chicken Broth...
GlutenFreeManna replied to josh052980's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here's a pretty good list of broths (both gluten free and gluten containing): Open Original Shared Link Granted this list is two years old, but the fact is there are many broths that contain wheat. There are also many gluten-free. For people taht are super sensitive to cc it's probably best to avoid brands which make both gluten containing and no gluten... -
ARCHIVED Having A Celiac Break Down
GlutenFreeManna replied to valeriek's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Really, I didn't know that. I just know the last time I checked the nacho ones (about 8 months ago) they had wheat. I haven't checked recently because I can't have dairy anymore and they all have milk. But I found a great substitute in Grande brand Salsa Limon tortilla chips. They're gluten-free and dairy free. They do have MSG for anyone avoiding that... -
ARCHIVED Having A Celiac Break Down
GlutenFreeManna replied to valeriek's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do you have a night job or something that you eat so late at night? So it sounds like your real issue is that you need to get more variety in your food. Check out the thread that Kareng posted. Also since you don't have any other food intolerances there is no reason why you can't have a grilled cheese sandwhich. Just make it on gluten-free bread. Udi... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Chicken Broth...
GlutenFreeManna replied to josh052980's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When I have to buy it I like Pacific Natural. Most of the time I make my own broth. It's really easy if you have crock pot. I cook a whole chicken in my crock pot with onion, carrots, cerely, garlic and potatoes. Seasoned with whatever I want--I like lemon pepper or rotisserie style seasoning. I pick as much of the meat off as I can for meals and... -
ARCHIVED Having A Celiac Break Down
GlutenFreeManna replied to valeriek's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Why do you only eat one meal a day? Do you have other intolrances or allergies besides gluten? You said you didn't want sympathy so if you don't have any additional restriction except gluten you get NO sympathy from me for eating that way. If you DO have additional intolerance there are many on this board that have been there done that. I have multiple... -
Do I Need To Worry About Salt?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Newtoitall's topic in Super Sensitive People
Idodized salt can irritate DH if you have it. I cut it out because of that but then had to add it back in once my skin rash healed to keep my thyroid healthy. I still mostly use Sea salt and Kosher salt. -
((Hugs)) It will get better. It's probably best that you NOT make gluten containing items anyway. I get major emotional meltdowns when I've been exposed to gluten. Handling something like a pie crust would not be good for you. I made that mistake early on too. I made some bread for a church fundraiser in order to use up all the flour I still had at...

ARCHIVED Why Would Rice Chex Make My Mouth Burn?
GlutenFreeManna replied to kagm's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I thought the gluten-free Chex varieties were made in a separate facility from their gluten containing chex? Perhaps I am mistaken. For the OP: perhaps you are sensitive to something else in the cereal like the BHT chemical used to preserve it. It never hurts to go all natural however and not eat processed foods. Especially in the beginning of your... -
ARCHIVED Can We Sue The Makers Of Rice Dream?
GlutenFreeManna replied to CNV2855's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't think we should sue but I do believe in writing to companies when we have things like that happen. Not an angry "I'll never buy your product again becuase it made me extremely ill" letter--even if that is true, but a well written letter explaining that you had bad reaction and you are disappointed that you cannot trust the gluten-free label on their... -
ARCHIVED Glutening My Son Before Test But He Is So Miserable.
GlutenFreeManna replied to Calmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Call your dr ASAP and tell him about your son's reaction. He may diagnose based on dieatary response or he may agree to get him in earlier for testing. The only reason to do a gluten challenge is if he has been gluten-free for a good amount of time. If he has just been eating a regualr diet up until now there is no need to gluten him up. But if he was... -
ARCHIVED Need Ideas For Summer
GlutenFreeManna replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oh yeah mine had a similar policy only it wasn't a giftcard. You just had to buy something, anything and ask for the login code. They do that so people don't just sit in their car and borrow the wifi. You could buy a small coffee for 1.57 though. Sounds like a 1 time gift card is a better deal if you plan to go a lot and they never change the code.
