Welcome to the board! Yes it is possible you are experiencing gluten withdrawal. I went through that for about a week but I also gave up soy, dairy and bunch of other thigns at the same time. I'm afraid the amount of time it lasts is going to be different for everyone, but from what I have read it should not last more than a couple weeks. One thing you...

ARCHIVED I Have Been By-Passed By Everyone !
GlutenFreeManna replied to Karl Otto's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with Raven. They are not "by-passing" you. They are just asking about your son and your son's mother because it's their job. Does your son ever spend time with his mother? Unless you have 100% custody and the mother never, ever sees him it is important for her to know all the same info you know about yoru son's diagnosis. It may be that the dr... -
ARCHIVED Irritated With My Family!
GlutenFreeManna replied to RachelisFacebook's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have this problem too! I hide my chips and other goodies from my husband but he KNOWS I hide them from him so it's not like I'm being overly sneaky. He freely admits he will eat it if it's there in plain sight. He's not doing it to be disrepectful, he just forgets that I have so few snacks I can eat and he can run out and get something anytime he wants... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Hotdogs?
GlutenFreeManna replied to hockeymomofceliacchild's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That is so interesting. Here in the US, I have never seen wheat in a hot dog. I don't eat them except once in a blue moon, but I have a harder time finding hot dogs that are soy free and pork free. I guess I will probably never eat one in Canada. ETA: I am pretty sure "spices" and "modified cornstarch" are gluten-free in US and Canada. -
ARCHIVED Possible Gluten Intolerance? Also, Is Enterolabs A Good Idea?
GlutenFreeManna replied to kaygato's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Enterolabs is somewhat controversial on this board. Be aware that they do NOT diagnose celaic disease. Their tests only identify whether you have a "gluten sensitivity". I think they also have gene tests, which will only tell you your risk of developing celiac, not whether you actually have it. Enterolab also is usually not covered by most insurance plans... -
ARCHIVED Confused!
GlutenFreeManna replied to suziq0805's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Was he diagnosed as celiac or did the GI want to wait to test him? Reactions can change or take more time to return. If he is not diagnosed and you were just suspecting a gluten intolerance due to his previous reactions, then try giving him bread for at least a week (or until he starts to react again) to test it again. Symptoms can take a long time to return... -
ARCHIVED Best Gluten Free Dessert Recipe
GlutenFreeManna replied to Asianmom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
How about things that are "normal" and also happen to be gluten free like: ice cream, pudding, jello, fruit salad, chocolate dipped strawberries, etc. Dessert doesn't have to mean a baked good -
Like everyone else mentioned I stop at grocery stores instead of fastfood places. If gluten is your only restriction you have more options too. You can find a lot of edible thigns in gas stations along the way as well. Big truck-stop gas stations often have fruit and refriderated sections with cheese, lunch meat, etc. You can alos pick up things like...

ARCHIVED Sick Or Starving/any Advice?
GlutenFreeManna replied to DianeSeekingInfo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey, that's what this board is here for. I don't think any of us are experts but many of us have multiple food restrictions too and have had to research alternative nutrition sources for the things we can't eat. Okay, looking at what you are eating helps. It seems like you can't possibly be getting enough calories from that limited of a diet. I can't... -
ARCHIVED Sick Or Starving/any Advice?
GlutenFreeManna replied to DianeSeekingInfo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry we have not been able to give you more help. We have covered a lot of foods already that you cannot eat. Perhaps we could help you better if you list what your DO eat currently? There are many different vegetables out there and maybe there are some new ones you could try to give you more variety/nutrition? -
ARCHIVED Just Made The Decision To Cancel Family Vacation!
GlutenFreeManna replied to 2johndeereboys's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Have you called your dr to see if the results are in yet? Sometimes they just don't call if it was negative. Or something may have gone wrong in sending out the labwork. When I got my allergy testing last month I called two weeks later becaus ei hadn't heard anythign and when my dr went to check on the tests he found out my blood samples had not yet been... -
ARCHIVED What Would You Like To See In A Cookbook?
GlutenFreeManna replied to MissBonnie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You should do like the crockpot lady did and make a blog about using the pressure cooker every day for a year or something. -
It's really easy! You can keep the herbs in little pots on your windowsill year round. I live in an apartment but I keep a small container garden on the patio in the summer and an herb garden in little pots I move inside to the windowsill when it gets cold. My most used herbs are chives, rosemary, cilantro, and dill. I hope you are feeling better now...

That is very interesting that you lived in a house with mold. I was very, very sick from living in one with black mold for 10 months. That was about the time I started having unexplained seizures and other really bad neuro symptoms. I never would have found out about celiac disease if I had not been desperate and reading about diets to help people exposed...

ARCHIVED Corn Intolerance?
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thank you both for sharing your reactions. Wow! Those reactions are how I react to gluten, oats and quinoa (my quinoa reaction is actually worse than a gluten reaction). I guess I should be thankful my reaction to corn is not that severe yet. Did you have the same experience with corn that many people have with gluten where your reactions got more severe... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
GlutenFreeManna replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Goulash in the slow cooker and gluten-free cupcakes. -
I have a similar reaction to milk. Do follow up with your dr and explain what happened. You may want to see if you can get allergy testing done or at least get an epipen in case your reaction gets worse. I saw you asked in another thread about how will you season food without this type of thing. You should really think about having a small herb garden...

Are you in the US? They have to declare soy as an allergen on food, however I have found some things like tuna packets that say "vegetable oil" or "vegetable broth" but do not declare soy. My soy reaction is more like migraines, fatigue and achiness, not an actual allergy, but I had a reaction to some tuna (this was over a year ago so I forget the brand...

Take some Benedryl ASAP!!--the brand name is gluten-free. You don't want to mess around with a food allergy like that. If the benedryl does not relieve your symptoms within 20-30 minutes then get yourself to an ER right away!

I get achy from gluten but I also get it from soy. Have you had your thyroid tested or been tested for other autoimmune diseases like lupus, RA, etc.?

ARCHIVED Pizza / Baking Stone Vs Pizza Pan?
GlutenFreeManna replied to sreese68's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think this is somethign you really have to try out before you know which you prefer. I have used stones in the past (from Pampered Chef) and I did not like the way they cooked pizza crusts. I like my crusts to be crispy and the stones seemed to make them always take longer to cook and they never got that crispness I love. I have many friends that love... -
ARCHIVED Meatloaf Recipes? Anyone?
GlutenFreeManna replied to momtok&m's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Plain rice chex or plain corn chex is not sweet. But I like to make my meatloaf with ketchup and brown sugar on top so maybe I am not the one to ask. Just as a side note, If you ever decide to try gluten-free bread again in the future and your family still doesn't like it (there ARE more bad ones than good out there for sure) you can always just make... -
ARCHIVED Meatloaf Recipes? Anyone?
GlutenFreeManna replied to momtok&m's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have used oatmeal in the past prior to going gluten free. It worked but I didn't really care for the texture. Some other things you can try: Gluten free bread made into bread crumbs in the food processer, chex cereal or gluten-free corn flakes crushed or put through the food processor, or Betty Crocker potato buds. If you like a really dense, solid... -
ARCHIVED Brown Rice Intolerance - Wild Rice Ok? Other Foods To Avoid?
GlutenFreeManna replied to sreese68's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Okay a few things for you to consider: 1. Was the Tinkyada made in pans previously used for gluten pastas or drained in a strainer previously used for gltuen pastas? Did you take care to eliminate all forms of cc? And what did you eat with the Tinkyada? Any type of sauce or butter, etc.? Althoguh your reaction may have been primarily neuro, reactions... -
ARCHIVED Corn Intolerance?
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thank you for your reply Michelle. I have so many other allergies/intolerances I really hope I don't have to start avoiding corn too. I think i will just cut back on it for now. I have read many stories about how hard it is to avoid. Fortunately I already cook most everything from scratch, don't use regular table salt, and don't use very many gluten-free...
