ARCHIVED How Do You Handle Your Child's Birthday Party?
GlutenFreeManna replied to alex11602's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't have kids, but the topic of a gluten-free tea party has come up on this forum before. Perhaps you can get some ideas from this old thread: (Just be sure to double check any specific products mentioned since the posts are a few years old). -
ARCHIVED Six Flags - St. Louis
GlutenFreeManna replied to CeliacMom2008's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
LOL! I grew up with cheap--er thrify parents. We always used to do that at amusement parks in the 1980's. We either had a small portable cooler of food or a big cooler in the car and we would just go to the parking lot for a tailgate-style lunch. I've never been to Six Flags, however. -

It does sound like those eggs would not be safe. If the plates come premade with toast already on the plate touching eggs then you cannot just take the toast off and eat the eggs and be okay. Same thing with a salad. You can't just order a salad and pick off croutons and expect not to get cc'd. Some people claim they are not that sensitive and may do... -
ARCHIVED Rudy's Multi-Grain Bread At Costco!
GlutenFreeManna replied to Monklady123's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Monklady! You're right, Trader Joes here sells Udi's for 5.99 instead of 6.99 here. I'm in VA as well, but in the Hampton Roads area. I buy 2 loafs whenever I happen to be near TJ's. But the store that has it for 6.99 is closer so I end up buying it there most of the time. I found out there is a Costco about 45 minutes from me but I probably won... -
ARCHIVED Rudy's Multi-Grain Bread At Costco!
GlutenFreeManna replied to Monklady123's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm so jealous! One loaf of Udi's cost 6.99 here. I found Rudi's ONCE and then the store stopped carrying the gluten-free type. They have all the whole wheat varieties, but no gluten-free. ****Off to search for the nearest Costco***** -
ARCHIVED For Future Referance,
GlutenFreeManna replied to Niebr's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do you have a dr that is very knowledgeable about celiac? Your bigger concern right now is making sure you are absorbing all the vitamins you take in. You may want to ask your dr to test your vitamin and mineral levels--some common ones that we run low on are: Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, Iron, and calcium. If you have not been very sick for very long however... -
ARCHIVED For Future Referance,
GlutenFreeManna replied to Niebr's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes and No. There are many diseases that are commonly associated with celiac. When and whether or not you develop these other diseases however will depend on many factors. People that go undiagnosed (and therefore are still consuming gluten) for a longer period of time have greater risk of developing cancer (although it is rare) and other autoimmune diseases... -
ARCHIVED Should I Even Be Here?
GlutenFreeManna replied to raesue's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! It does sound like you could have a gluten problem. It's too bad you cna't get a test done before you try the diet because a positive test might help convince your family to get tested as well. However if it works for you there is nothing that says you need a drs permisisiont o eat gluten-free. So go ahead and try it. The diet does have a bit... -

ARCHIVED Six Flags - St. Louis
GlutenFreeManna replied to CeliacMom2008's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Does Six Flags allow you to take a small cooler of food in? If not, I would think they should make an exception for someone with celiac or food allergies. Perhaps a drs note would be acceptable? Otherwise, can they leave the park with a stamp on their hands and still get back in that day? Perhaps keeping a cooler a food in the car and go to the parking... -
ARCHIVED Finally Found A Pasta I Like!
GlutenFreeManna replied to Marc49's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks, I have Krogers. I will ask my store manager if they can get this brand if they don't have it. They may already carry it and I just have not seen it. My Kroger has gluten-free items both in a special section down and aisle labeled "diet food" AND they have some things scattered throughout the store. The gluten-free King Arthur flour is mixed in... -
ARCHIVED Please Sign This Petition For gluten-free Girl Scout Cookies!
GlutenFreeManna replied to Gardening's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'll sign and pass it on, but I'm not very optomistic of seeing it happen. Did anyone see the interview on one of the morning shows with the Girl Scouts that have been petitioning for YEARS to get them to stop using Palm oil in their cookies? When I saw that I thought that they should fight for them to have an allergen free cookie instead. But I'm sure... -

That's interesting about the low glycemic rating--I didn't know that. Thanks! And for what it's worth for other's wanting to try Sam Mill's corn pasta, my non-gluten-free husband told me it was his favorite after I told him about this thread. I knew he liked it, but he informed me he liked it the best of all we have tried. So I guess I will have to drive... -
ARCHIVED Thinking About Having A Little Dairy....
GlutenFreeManna replied to WinterSong's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It sounds like that's the best solution then--to just try something else. Who knows you might find a new fruit drink you really like! I try to look at the positive side of this disease--at least we are forced to try new things. I have many new favorites I never would have tried if it were not for being forced to try them. Enjoy your spa day! -
ARCHIVED Thinking About Having A Little Dairy....
GlutenFreeManna replied to WinterSong's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What if you made your own smoothie in advance with things you know you can have and ask them to serve it to you in one of their glasses or something? In addition to the dairy issue, if they make anything else in the same blender there is a possible gluten cc issue. Especially if this is a health spa that makes things like wheat grass smoothies or something... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Do?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Lisa's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Raven, I've said this before, but you are such an inspiration to me! -
If you add about 2 Tablespoons of vinegar to the water before bringing it to a boil the yolk will usually not get green. And they will also be easier to peel.

You'll have to get Kareng to pick you up on the way. I have plenty left! I was going to freeze them but if y'all get here by morning you can have them over some gluten-free/DF/SF pancakes. -
ARCHIVED I Admit It, I Can't Control Myself
GlutenFreeManna replied to jenngolightly's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I can so relate to this thread. For me it's chips. Potato chips or tortilla chips. I can't buy them or I will eat the entire bag in 2 days. When I do buy them I ask my husband to give me a bowlful and then tell him to hide the bag from me. Every once in a while I find a bag that has been hidden and I eat the rest when I find it. -
ARCHIVED Corn Carpet
GlutenFreeManna replied to jenngolightly's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Y'all are too funny!! In all seriousness, I can totally understand your hesitation. If it were me and the carpet was made out of gluten I would not buy it. Even though I don't eat carpet or eat things off of the carpet the chance of gluteny carpet dust would worry me. If it was made out of soy, however I MIGHT buy it just because soy is more of... -

Come on over! The chicken is gone, but if you get here soon you can have some of the strawberries I'm eating now for my dessert. -
The difference is in taste and also how the chickens are raised or fed. If you don't care about the treatment of farm animals one way or the other it probably doesn't matter to you. I buy organic free range when I can just because I like the taste better. However, I will buy the store brand or whatever is cheapest when money is tight. Be careful, this...

ARCHIVED Diagnosed 4 Months Ago. Still Lost.
GlutenFreeManna replied to Niebr's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do you have a crockpot? Many inexpensive meals can be made in one and they are easy to do too if you are just learning to cook. It does take planning in advance, but many people here do large batches of crockpot food on the weekends and freeze in invidual portions for the week.
