ARCHIVED We're Having A Heat Wave!
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yes I can tell! Thanks for all the ideas. I'm sure somebody will be able to use them. Alas I don't have a grill and I'm not allowed to have one where I currently rent. Even if I did have one I don't think I could pay my husband enough to heat it up in this heat! We will be eating lots of fruit and raw veggies this week that's for sure. Maybe I will try... -
ARCHIVED I Found The New gluten-free Rice Krispies

Whoa! Sorry about the big size of that photo. The gluten-free box is also yellow and so it contrasts with the blue box of the non gluten-free ones on the shelf. I'm glad they made it so obvious that these were different. -

As far as I know they are keeping the old ones too, but I could be wrong. The gluten-free ones say gluten-free in big letters on the front. I'll try to post a picture of the box. -

ARCHIVED Going Nuts Looking For Gluten Free Nuts
GlutenFreeManna replied to naturalwoman's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just wanted to mention that this thread was started in 2007. A lot could have changed since then in regards to labeling and availablity. Also not everyone has access to Whole Foods or Trader Joes. I am fortunate to live in a big enough city with Trader Joes and 4 or 5 different grocery store chains so I can find nuts that are safe without much trouble... -

It's 101 degrees here today! My AC is not keeping up (it's 80 degrees in my place right now) so there's no way I'm going to waste energy and create heat by cooking. I went to the store today and bought: salad fixings--spinach, arrugula, carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, shredded cabbage for coleslaw, cereal, and lunch meat so I can make gluten-free sandwiches... -

It has been discussed in several places on this board in the past. Just a minute I'll dig up those old posts and if you want to bump them up to continue those conversations I will be happy to answer your questions. The majority of coupons are for non-food items and that really helps with my budget as well. Everyone needs toilet paper and tooth brushes... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
GlutenFreeManna replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
All the recipes I know of are not really fast--things like meatballs, meatloaf, stuffed bell peppers and casseroles that take an hour in the oven or need to be started in a slow cooker in the morning. The only thing I can think of is if you have some pre-made gluten-free pizza crust you could just fry up the sausage in a skillet, drain well and throw it... -

Found them at the store today. Too bad they DO cost more. 4.19 for the gluten-free ones. 3.79 for the regular. Same size packages. Oh well it's not too much more. I was really hoping they would be the same price so I could tell all my non-gluten-free friends to buy the gluten-free ones. Then maybe the company would do away with the old ones completely... -

Raven just reminding me of another money saving tip. If your city has an Asian or international grocery store you can usually find really good deals in there. Rice, rice noodles, bean thread noodles, rice paper wrappers (for making spring rolls), rice flour, glutonous or sweet rice flour (it's gluten free) are all much less than the ones that are certified... -

Awe... at least he knew he did something wrong and was looking sad. I thought the thing he pulled out of the trash was going to be a sanitary napkin with blood all over the carpet. The toy poodle I had as a childhood pet used to do that. My friend had a big adult dog that they took in from an abused dog shelter. She was very gentle around people... -

Welcome! I'm a couponer too. There are sometimes coupons for gluten free products--remember to write to the companies when you try a new gluten-free product you like. They will send you coupons sometimes. Also look up the companies on facebook. There have been facebook coupons in the last few months for Udi's and for Rudi's gluten-free bread. Beyond... -

As Kareng said most salad dressings are fine. In the US and Canada wheat has to be labeled. So the only gluteny thing that *could* be hiding is barely (AKA malt) or rye. I've never seen rye used in dressings. Barely could potentially hide in "natural flavorings" but it's very rare that it would be used there and malt vinegar will be disclosed. That dressing... -

First step is admiting your problem! Better a oookie addict than a gluten addict! And most people seem to think everything gluten-free is healthy. -
You could try switching to sweet potatoes. They are not technically nightshades and are really good for you. I love to make baked sweet potatoes and top with savory topping just like I would a plain white potato. Sweet potato fries are good too!

I always have a Lara Bar or Enjoy Life bar in my purse. I also keep a little cooler bag that looks like a purse stocked with some non-perishables. Currently it has gluten-free granola, Enjoy Life bars, Almonds, dried cranberrys and banana chips. Some other things I have in there sometimes are gluten-free pretzels, corn chips, rice cakes and a little jar... -

Welcome! If you are in the US pretty much all bacon is gluten free. Well I guess I should qualify that by saying I have never seen a bacon that contains gluten. Just read the ingredients and you should be fine. I eat turkey bacon myself due to a pork allergy. I like Applegate Farms Organic: Open Original Shared Link -

I struggled for a while with what to call myself and I experienced many of the same confused looks on people's faces. My current dr is great and says I'm most likely celiac or gluten intolerant and whatever term I want to use is fine with her (she won't write it on my chart because of possible insurance issues though and has me down as wheat allergic only... -

GlutenFreeManna replied to alex11602's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That sounds like a great menu for a kids party to me! Anyone that complains about the lack of gluten is downright rude. Actually, I would not even tell them right away that the cake and mini pizzas are gluten-free. Let them eat it first and see what they say. -

Are you talking to me? I do not have any formal celiac diagnosis because I went gluten free prior to doing testing. I do use the term celiac to describe myself, but I also have a wheat allergy. The wheat allergy was found somewhat by accident a year and a half after I went gluten-free. I had allergy testing done because I started having anaphylactic reactions... -

You are still somewhat new to the gluten-free diet, correct? Give it some more time but also read as much as you can on the forums here. You may learn of some things that could be still cross contaminating you no matter how careful you think you are being.
