  1. I would be very surprised if you had more than one type of gluten-free Challah bread available in your stores. I have only ever heard of one brand that's sold commerically and that is Katz. Here's a thread about it: Also, I know you said you didn't want to make your own, but you really should consider trying it if you can't get Katz. Simona's recipe...
  2. My biggest fear is having security take away my safe food (yes I know they are SUPPOSED to let non-liquids through but my husband has had Lays Stax taken away at security before and it really concerns me). Second biggest fear is getting stuck overnight in an airport somewhere and running out of the food I brought and not being able to find safe food. I...
  3. Hi Love2travel! I've missed your food posts. I'm so sorry you are going through such a rough time right now. Between this and your back injuries you must be in agony. I hope they can figure out what it is that is making you so sick. Not everything is food related. I hope whatever it is turns out to be easily and quickly treated to get you back to your...
  4. bean and beef burittos (I make without cheese all the time using corn tortillas and they are just as good). Any type of salad that you would normally have just put it in a wrap so you can eat it without a fork. Sunbutter and banana? If you can get egg-free (vegan) Mayo you can fill with tuna salad or chicken salad Here's a mediterranean Wrap that...
  5. When I was in elemetary school my mom used grapes as eyeballs--put in a bowl full of red jello.
  6. Nope, not an idiot. Very smart actually to figure it out.
  7. Yes, if it's negative you can still be gluten intolerant. Currently, the only test for gluten intolerance is exactly what your did--remove gluten and see how you feel, try eating gluten and see if the symptoms return. Your symptoms returned. No matter what the test results say you should listen to what your body is telling you. Since you were gluten-free...
  8. I think the OP got my point just fine. My point was not to be disgusting or play passive agressive games but to be REAL and honest about what is happening. Obviously her just TELLING her husband how she is feeling is not working. He needs to SEE that she is really sick as well. Women especially like to play the martyr and push through their pain and sickness...
  9. Sounds like your husband had some wishful thinking and maybe even minterpreted what your doctor said when your dr said everything "looked fine". Time to take your husband to the next dr's appointment where you ask your dr to go over the POSITIVE biopsy results and what they mean (that you need a strict gluten-free diet for life). This may be the only way...
  10. Why can't you use silverware and eat fresh fruit and veggies? Canned food is safe, but it's not as tasty, IMO. I have an emergency stash of canned goods for huricanes and it will be fine if I need to eat it, but I can't imagine living on that during non-emergency times. Sure you can live on it if that's the way you want to live--there is no "toxic" danger...
  11. I have tried several time to make coocnut milk yogurt and failed--it doesn't get thick like yogurt, however it will get sour and become keifer which is just as good for your gut as yogurt. I make mine with a coconut milk yogurt made by So Deliscious as a starter. The coconut milk yogurt is very expensive--like $3 for a 6 oz cup so I can't afford to just...
  12. Last year I made thanksgiving dinner the day before thanksgiving then I made up a plate for myself and took it with me the next day to the dinner. I had everything-a small turkey breast, stuffing made from Udi's bread, cranberry sauce, green beans, sweet poatoes, and even pumpkin pie. For the pumkin pie I used canned coconut in place of the condensed milk...
  13. Simona, this looks really good. Does it taste the same as the bread made with the KA flour? I may have to try it but not this week. We ate too much bread these last few weeks and I have gained 5 lbs! I need to lose weight. That will never happen if I keep makign all your yummy gluten-free goodies!
  14. I'll be looking forward to your update when you try it Mushroom! I think it would be cheaper for me to buy all the individual flours than to buy KA gluten-free flour.
  15. I'm in Norfolk, VA. I have found it at more than one Kroger store in this area as well as in Virginia Beach. If your Kroger carries other gluten-free products you may be able to get them to start carrying this flour too. Also you can order fromt he KA website (although that's more expensive with shipping costs)--they do ship to anywhere in the US and Canada...
  16. I have not seen anything like those items on the market, however you can try making them yourself: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  17. Chili, cornbread and pumpkin custard.
  18. This certainly sounds more like an allergic reaction, IMO. Gluten reactions are so varied I suppose it "could" be from gluten but it seems very unlikely. The symtpoms you describe-swelling, throat closing and hives are allergy reactions. You might also consider that it's not a food allergy but an environmental allergy instead--like an allergy to pollen...
  19. Hi Cougie! King Arthur gluten-free flour is sold in the US. They also will ship to Canada on their website. I find it in Kroger in my stores in Virginia. If you read through the entire thread I think some others gave the names of their stores where they find it. My Kroger stores stock it in the middle of the gluten flours in the baking section (it's...
  20. You can persue testing for other possible causes of fatigue without waiting and you probably should have things like your thyroid tested anyway just because a large number of people with celiac have other autoimmune diseases. If you have a vitamin deficiency it could take several months to feel better even with the right amount of vitamin supplements. ...
  21. Before you try to go gluten-free, get to the dr and get blood tests for celiac. Do not tell your husband about the tests if they are negative. But if they are positvie you will need to have your doctor talk to your husband and explain this is not in your head. If the test are negative you will need to convince you husband you are truely very sick. If...
  22. Sweet potatoes or root vegetables can have plenty of carbs--carrots, turnips, parsnips, rutabagas, beets, etc all have a healthy carb count--just not white carbs. If you are not doing white potatoes because of the nightshade thing you can make a decent shepherd's pie with meat, root vegetables of choice and mashed sweet potato or mashed cauliflower on top...
  23. You should get a copy of all your test results to see them for yourself and maybe even take them to a new GI doctor. Hopefully your current dr will accurately review the biosy results, but get your own copies just in case. It's very presumptious of him to say you can't have celiac when he hasn't even looked at the results yet! Celiac damamge cannot be...
  24. I'm just wondering, are you eating these foods separately or mixed together in one meal? I know this makes it more complicated for you to figure out, but for some people only one type food at a time causes reflux. For others they need a combination of things--like the right combination of carbs and fats to not have reflux. I know for me if I eat just plain...
  25. Can you please give a reference for this? I have never heard such a crazy thing in my life. Dairy cannot "turn into gluten"! Dairy is naturally gluten-free. Now that said, many of us DO have trouble with dairy and if your daughter is still having stomach issues dairy may be to blame. That would not explain the high Ttg though. I've heard varying...
