  1. While I completely agree it's out of line for him to expect your daughter to go back on gluten for testing, is it possible that the nurse just added that info while on the phone becuase it's standard procedure for other patients? Or was she reading his notes to you directly? It's absolutely inexplicable that he would NOT tell you this while in the office...
  2. Can you go back to the GI that diagnosed you? I know referrals usually work the other way around, but perhaps he/she can reccomend a PCP that will be more helpful in testing you for hashi's? Or maybe he can test you for hashi's as part of follow-up care for celiac diagnosis? Just throwing things out there. I don't know what all your insurance covers....
  3. I searched the board for Toledo and found several old posts about their support group, but nothing recent. This post: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/calendar/1/event-2671 From 2009 gives the name of a dr and also says they were meetign at a public library. Perhaps you can look up that dr named and also check with the library to see if they are still...
  4. Are you havign a colonscopy or are you having an endoscopy? Colonoscopy looks at the wrong end if they are looking for celiac-related damage.
  5. Sorry to tell you but Amy's has made a lot of people sick. They are processed ont he same line with wheat products. Stick with mostly whole foods and you'll feel better faster.
  6. If you are tryign to get a dr diagnosis I would go to the dermatologist first. They don't need your rash you be at it's worse but they do need an active legion to see. Make sur eyou tell the derm that your other dr told you that you have a glutne intolerance and that you have noticed a change in the rash since going gluten-free. To test for DH They should...
  7. You don't have to spend money on new appliances or cookware right away. You could just avoid using them for a while. At first I did not replace anythign but just did not use anything with a high potential to cc--I didn't eat gluten-free bread so didn't need to use the toaster (you can also go teh route of getting toaster bags but those are expensive--a cheap...
  8. Hope you don't have to drive through winding mountain roads where the bears and bobcats might get a whiff of your chili and follow you!
  9. No research has been done because people that are super sensitive to cc would not consent to be in such a study! Not to mention that there are no drugs for celiac and therefore no drug company money to pay for such reasearch. I'll tell you the closest thing I know to a double blind study from my own experience. Early on when I went gluten-free, we...
  10. Welcome AmyinTX! With that high of numbers you are positive for sure. Do be aware that going gluten-free before the biopsy could mean that you biospies won't find any damage. Another common problem with the biopsies are that they don't take enough samples. Ask the dr how many samples they are taking and ask that they take 8-11 if they don't tell you that...
  11. They do label them gluten-free but just to warn you some people have had trouble with that brand. The company had a recall of their tortillas in Canada last year due to undisclosed wheat. If they don't make you sick then enjoy but if you find you are mysteriously being gltuened you might want to suspect those tortillas. They made me very sick and I won...
  12. Oh my Bubba's mom! I use mine at least once a week. I used to have two but I broke my smaller one and I only have a big 6.5 QT Oval one now. I use it so much I leave it on my kitchen counter.
  13. How are they plugging it in? Is there a crockpot with a cigarette lighter attachement somewhere? I also wonder where they place it so it doesn't burn anyone or slosh about if they go over bumps. Mine gets pretty hot-- I wouldn't want it on the passenger side floor near my legs!
  14. I just wanted to make sure you understand that you will need to be consuming gluten in order to be tested for celiac. If you have no plans to be tested then go ahead and go gluten free. However if you find that gluten does make you sick and you later will want testing then you would need to go back to eating it for 3 months to get tested. Many peopel can...
  15. See the flour sub suggestion from KA's blog (I posted it earlier in this thread). I would think you could just use 1/2 cup finely ground brown rice flour since that's what the majority of the flour is made from. Let us know if you try that and how it works. I need to price my individual flours out and figure out which way is a less expensive. King Arthur...
  16. I did not say you suggested such a thing. Just putting it out there as a precaution. Some people might be under the impression that certain products never contain gluten. When they are new they may not think to check things like corn tortillas. It's amazing where it can hide.
  17. Someone posted recently about accidently buying ones with wheat flour. They named the brand when asked: Just because you have never seen it doesn't mean they don't exist or that you should stop checking labels when buying them.
  18. I feel so prudish! I've only ever crocked in my kitchen. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Oh wait there was that one time at church.... and maybe once for Christmas dinner at a friend's house. I guess I need to be more adventurous!
  19. Good grief! That's terrible. FWIW, my soy reactions are almost the same as yours. I highly suspect that soy negatively affects my thyroid. As for her comments that you should have been wasting away a long time ago, show her this article: https://www.celiac.com/articles/1077/1/39-of-Celiac-Disease-Patients-are-Overweight-at-Diagnosis8212A-Full-...
  20. Aren't you also trying to do soy free? If not then just ignore this...If so then I use Earth Balance (the soy free/dairy free one), coconut oil (which is a solid at room temp) or palm shortening depending on the recipe. Some recipes I can even use light olive oil if it calls for melted butter. ETA: the thigns that are most affected by changing to a...
  21. No idea! And I've never seen plain King Arthur "stablized" Brown Rice flour anywhere. I just used extra finely ground rice flour from my Asian grocery.
  22. If you look at the King Arthur pizza recipe on their blog it tells you how to make a substitute for their multi-purpose flour blend. Open Original Shared Link From the link: *Make your own blend Many of our gluten-free recipes use our King Arthur Gluten-Free Multi-Purpose Flour, which includes ingredients that reduce the grittiness sometimes found...
  23. Oh I hope you feel better soon! Whenever you get around to making it is fine!
  24. Turkey pizza meatloaf (I had pizza on the mind but planned on meatloaf so why not make a pizza-flavored meatloaf? ), salad and maybe some green beans with almonds.
  25. Yes, please let us know if you try it! I have seen garfava but have not tried it.
