  1. I don't know about the UK, but in the US "vegetable oil" almost always means soybean oil. I react to different forms of soy differently so it would not surprise me if you only have a problem with soybean oil and not other form (or you might find other forms of soybeans just give you mild reactions you don't notice much--For me soy lectin give very little...
  2. Made by this company: Open Original Shared Link I have only found them in one store locally (Bloom) in the freezer section where all the organic and gluten-free items are. The chocolate glazed is to die for and it's dairy free and soy free as well as gluten-free! I have also tried the maple glazed--it was still good but a little TOO sweet for me. Still...
  3. It sounds like you need more carbs not more fat. Potatoes and rice are the cheap celiac staples--brown rice and sweet potatoes are healthy but also carb-loaded to help you gain. If you can eat gluten-free bread and gluten-free pasta several tiems a week you will gain in no time. I lost weight when I initally went gluten-free but the weight loss stopped...
  4. Yeah Rudi's company makes both gluten free AND several varieties of wheat. The gluten-free Rudi's has light blue on the bag. All the non-gluten-free are red or yellow I believe. I know because the only store I have ever found the gluten-free Rudi's at stopped carrying it after I only bought one loaf. After several weeks of not finding it, I asked the manager...
  5. I just wanted to clarify for you that "IBS" is NOT a disease. It is a set of symptoms and describes what is happening--you're bowels are irritable. It's a diagnosis given when the docotrs don't know what is causing your symptoms. Most likely your IBS is CAUSED by your celiac disease. There is a good chance your IBS will resolve completely after a long...
  6. I just wanted to point out this OP is from 2008. I suggest anyone using these bubbles contact the company again to see if their answer has changed.
  7. It's possible you have other intolerances and it's also possible you are getting gluten from repeated cc that you are not aware of. Best thing to do to start out is to keep a food and symptom journal to see if you can see a pattern as food intolerance reactions can take several days to show up. Then you can start eliminating suspicous foods. Another way...
  8. Okay two issues I want to address here: 1. Food allergies and celiac disease is covered under the ADA in the US. Schools are REQUIRED to make reasonable accomodations for your kids based on a doctors note. In this case the reasonable accomodation would proabbly be that your kids are not allowed to eat anything except what you send and cc from other...
  9. The false negative rate for the blood tests is about 20-30%. So yes you could have had it and had a false negative blood test. Not to mention there are several differnet test, so if you only had one and not the full celiac blood panel then you are not getting a full picture. Many here have been in your same situation and self-diagnosed with dietary response...
  10. If you are craving brownies Trader Joes makes a yummy gluten-free, dairy free, soy free and nut free brownie mix. That or an Enjoy life bar usually satisfies my craving these days.
  11. Yes. Positive blood work indicates celiac. You will need to go 100% gluten free no matter what. Just wait until after the endo to go gluten free.
  12. Since she has been on a gluten free diet for a year testing for celiac will be negative, if she has it, it would show up false negative. The only way to get testing done would be to challenge her by feeding her gltuen --the equivalent of 3-4 slicces of bread-- for at least 3 months prior to testing. However, if you feed her gltuen again and her symptoms...
  13. I'm not a parent but it sounds like it could be celiac or it could be another food allergy such as dairy. Has she had blood tests for celiac or other food allergies? Regardless, her situation sounds very dire and I'm surprised she has not spent more time in the hospital than what your describe. You need to take her to a dr ASAP and ask for testing. Write...
  14. The blood tests are very, very rarely false positive. With 2 positive blood test you most definitely have Celiac Disease. Your dr was very negligent to not call you with the blood test results and to just tell you to "buy a book". If you want the endoscopy to have the best chance at being positive do NOT cut gluten out of your diet until after it is done...
  15. This post was started in 2004. I don't think most of the above posters are still on this site. That said Betty Crocker fruits snacks are almost all gluten free and they say so on the box. I don't know about Kellogs. AFAIK Kellogs has not had any gluten-free stuff until recently when they anounced they were formulating a gluten-free Rice Krispies (not...
  16. Your dr works for you. There is no need to be nice, unless you are living in a country where you have no choice in who your dr is, in which case you have my sympathy. Be firm in your askign for retesting and if they still refuse find a NEW dr.
  17. Your dr is wrong. Show them this: Open Original Shared Link If they still refuse to retest you then fire them and get a new dr.
  18. Okay you answered a lot of my questions with this post while I was writing my post...Quinoa was not good to me. I had symptoms worse than with gluten when I tried Quinoa so you might consider droppign that. coconut milk is good for you BUT it is a natural laxative--it's possible you are over doign the coconut milk or your body just can't handle that. It...
  19. Have you replaced your old non-stick pans, old wooden spoons, old toaster, old wooden or p[lastic cutting boards, etc since going gluten free? Do you live with gluten eating roommates or family? Do you still go out to bars and pizza places where there is a high amount of gluten floating around? Do you have a boyfriend you kiss after he eats gluten? ...
  20. I had trouble with raw veggies and beans when I first went gluten free. I was able to eat them more after about 6-8 months, but I still (1 yr 4 months later) don't eat large quantiities of raw veggies every day. I used to be vegetarian as well but I have found I feel better when I eat meat and it's easier to keep the anemia away. Spianch and other iron...
  21. There was a recall of spinach recently due to possible Salmonella. You might want to make sure you didn't get a tainted bag...
  22. My short answer is that I try not to because I am very sensitive to CC. However, I plan to risk it this year and try a marshmallow peep (assuming they are also dairy free I have not checked that yet).
  23. When I go on road trips I pack as much food as I can--I make a big cooler for the trunk with things that need to be kept cold in individual containers like fruit, raw veggies, hard boiled eggs, cooked chicken breast, diced. I also used to take yogurt and cheese when I could still eat them. we would pull into a rest stop and eat at the picnic tables. I...
  24. I would not speak up about that at all...I think if I were in your situation I would make up a bunch of gluten-free mini pizzas (or whatever comparable treat you can have) and keep on hand for such occaisions. Because what it really comes down to is you are feeling deprived, jealous and resentful of soemthign that is not your fault and also not your co-workers...
