  1. I guess I don't see what upset you so much. If you have anemia that bad you may need to go get iron injections or an iron IV for a while. Just eating right and taking supplements may not help right now if your body is super dammaged from gluten. You may feel "fine" becuase you are used to feeling that way and think it's normal at this point. I may be...
  2. I had the same thing happen after my skin prick tests which included all the gluten grains--I was itchy all over. I also had nothing show up on the skin prick test but blood allergy tests found a wheat allergy. My allergist said the blood tests are slightly more accurate/sensitive to catch food allergies. I'm assuming that's why I was itchy all over. ...
  3. If he IS sensitive to gluten, the fact that he smokes is probably keeping him from having symptoms on a daily basis. I forget what the connection is, but many people on this board have reported their gluten intolerance symptoms got worse once they quit smoking. In the beginning my husband kept eating gluteny whole grain cereals and oatmeal because he has...
  4. Small kids put their hands in their mouths a lot. Even if she doesnt and you wash her hands well, Playdough gets under the nails and stays there. Playing with it is not safe for that reason. Moon Dough is gluten free if you are looking for a storebought replacement. Or you can find gluten-free recipes for homemade playdough by googling.
  5. I have tried the new gluten-free Rice Krispies and I could not tell a difference taste wise. They still make that snap, krackle pop sounds and make great rice krispie treats. I don't like that they are more expensive either but it is probably because they process them in a separate gluten-free facility and test to make sure they are actually gluten-free...
  6. This is just a random thought, but if the majority of your meals are gluten-free, then your husband is on a low gluten diet, correct? Is it possible that he is actually a little gluten sensitive as well and that occasional sandwich is making him get sick more often? Would he agree to a trial period of making the house gluten-free for a month to see how...
  7. Nachos are really easy and quick to make at home. I have not found a safe mexican place yet but we make a lot of Mexican and Tex-mex style food because it's easy to make gluten-free and it's my husband's favorite. Even now that I can't have cheese I still make things like tacos, burittos, fajitas, taco salads, chili, etc.
  8. Simona, I hope you feel better soon. We are fighting colds here in our house too. It was nice to have this bread to eat and not have to worry about cooking. I made a sandwich for my husband last night and he said to me, "Are you sure this is gluten-free bread?" Today there is only a couple pieces left, but it is still soft just like Merrill said it would...
  9. Merrill's gluten-free Bread (untoasted, yay!) with Earth Balance butter!
  10. Oh yes, I had forgotten about you being diagnosed by an allergist Raven. Sorry about that. My allergist knew what celiac/gluten intolerance was but he was a little incredulous when I read him my list of symptoms that went away when I went gluten-free. His jaw literally dropped and he asked me several times, "Really? Are you serious?" I wish I had found...
  11. I don't know the answer about the malt but caramel color is gluten free in the US. It is almost always made with corn. If it's made with wheat they would have to declare that on the soda. So go ahead and enjoy a Pepsi, Coke or Dr Pepper if you miss them--all of them are gluten-free in the U.S.
  12. There is no such thing as a "gluten allergy". You can be allergic to an individual gluten grain such as wheat allergy, but celiac is an autoimmune disease not an allergy. That said, SOME allergist may be familiar with celiac. I'm not sure if they would be able to order the tests or not though. Most allergist order allergy tests. If you suspect celiac...
  13. I let mine rise way too long then! It ended up spilling over the sides more while int eh oven. I just took it out of the oven and it sank in the middle a little. It smells wonderful however! I had to cut the top spilled part off to get it out of the pan. So I cut into it while still warm and put some Earth Balance on it. I probably should have waited...
  14. Go in educated! If he tells you it's rare then ask him if 1 in 133 people in the US is rare. Take this list of tests and make sure the full panel is run: Open Original Shared Link Highlight the name of each test and even ask the person drawing blood to verify that those are the tests being run. Good Luck!
  15. Well it's in the oven! I should note that I used a 2.5 by 8.5 inch glass pyrex loaf pan. I had greased th epan with palm shortening. The batter was about an inch below the lip when I poured it into the pan so I thought it was big enough but next time I will either make two shorter loaves or use a bigger pan.
  16. Just checked on my bread and in only 40 minutes it rose OVER the edge of the pan and was oozing onto my oven floor. Fortunately I caught it before there was too big of a mess. I transfered the loaf pan toa cookie sheet and moved my oven racks around so it won't hit the upper racks or the top of the oven if it rises too high during baking. I have high...
  17. If the D did not start until after you started on the supplement I would suspect the supplement. Did you make sure it is gluten-free? I would go with whole foods until this resolves. Meat, plain rice, vegetables, fruit sparingly. gluten-free breads bother some peopel becaus eof the xanthan gum or the alternative flours they are not used to consuming...
  18. DO's have been around for a long time. They have the same trainign as MD's. They may not all be great but as far as bedside manner I have liked the DO's I have seen better than the MD's I have seen. DO's seem to listen more and look at the whole picture. The biggest thing I have noticed is that instead of just saying, "okay I'm going to order these tests...
  19. I'm making this right now! It's rising in my warm oven. Just some notes for those that asked about not having a stand mixer: I started out mixing it by hand and then when I realized it was not a very hard dough but more of a thick batter I used my little hand mixer (a cheapy one bought on a black friday deal, LOL) to mix it up more thouroughly....
  20. I've never heard of an instance of "pizza dust" from an already cooked pizza contaminating someone however there are many other possible explanations. A more likely culprit would be shared supplies or shared door handles, sink handles, toilet handles, clipboards, pens, etc. Or those close talkers eating and gleeking in your general direction. That...
  21. Hubby's coming down with a cold so I made eggdrop soup with bean thread noodles.
  22. I was not saying that they should put exactly how much each batch tested to but that they should put how sensitive of a test was used for that product. I.E. "This product tests to below 20 PPM" or perhaps the no gluten symbol and a 20 to indicate that a 20 PPM test has been done. The no gluten and 10 or no gluten and 5 could be volunatary symbols for companies...
  23. Did the dr also test you for food poisoning? If your D does not go away soon go back to the dr ASAP.
  24. You might find this list interesting: Open Original Shared Link
  25. I've been thinking this subject over since they came out with the proposal. As someone that is very sensitive and can't use very many so called "gluten-free" products I would be okay if the law only required testing to 20 PPM. However, I have a few additional things I would like to see on the label as well: 1. I would like to see companies be required...
