ARCHIVED Caffeine Overdose
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks! I'm better now. My headache is gone anyway. My chest still hurts a little, but I think it has passed. -
I seldom indulge in caffeinated beverages, but last night I went some place where the only thing that was safe was sweet tea. I had not had any sweet tea for almost a year, but I used to enjoy it so I thought "why not?" Well last night at 2 AM when my mind was still racing, my heart was pounding in my ears, my chest hurt and my hands were shaking I knew...

Based on this post: (which is a few years old so you should double check) it sounds like Bare Minerals is safe. -
ARCHIVED Help Me Make My Home Gluten-Free
GlutenFreeManna replied to Gardening's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Spices and old sugar may need to be replaced. If you ever used to dip the measuring spoon/cups into flour and then dip them into a spice or the sugar bag, then your spices and sugar could be contaminated. -
ARCHIVED Brand New And Totally Confused
GlutenFreeManna replied to katievesledahl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome! Sorry you are still having pain. If you have non-stick or cast iron pans you definitely need to get new ones and dedicate them to gluten-free cooking. Gluten can get in the scratches of the pans and contaminate the gluten free food you are trying to cook. Colanders are really hard to clean with all those little holes and plastic or wooden utensils... -
ARCHIVED Julie's Organic Gluten-Free Ice Cream Sandwiches
GlutenFreeManna replied to oceansparkle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Unfortunately organic does not equal gluten free. Some organic companies offer gluten free items and it's true that when there are fewer ingredients (in the case or most organics) it's easier to read the label and figure out if there are gluten ingredients added. But just because the company is organic doesn't mean there are fewer cross contamination risks... -
ARCHIVED Julie's Organic Gluten-Free Ice Cream Sandwiches
GlutenFreeManna replied to oceansparkle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry, but what does organic baking soda have to do with gluten? I thought all baking soda was gluten free. And I don't doubt that you had a CC reaction, I avoid anything made on shared equipment. Unfortunately that statement is not required on packaging (at least in the US). It's a statement the company makes just to cover their behinds. -
ARCHIVED I Had Lactose And Gluten An Hour Ago, Bad Me! Emergency Fix?
GlutenFreeManna replied to sweeeeet's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Sorry to tell you this, but no enzyme or pill can prevent symptoms if you are celiac/gluten intolerant and you purposely ingest gluten. SOme people take Pepto Bismol after the fact and they say it helps a little. I'm not sure if you can take it with Zantac though. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and flush out the toxins and eat bland food like rice... -
ARCHIVED Tj Brownie Mix Is Horrible!
GlutenFreeManna replied to TrickyMama's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That's too bad. I really like the Trader Joe's pancake mix. -
I want to say it gets better, but I'm not sure if it ends. I'm 8 months without gluten. I still have days where I realize something else I can't have and it starts again. The thing that has helped me the most has been to focus on what I CAN have rather than what I can't and to look for substitutes for my former favorites. I know that's really hard when...

ARCHIVED Baking Business
GlutenFreeManna replied to lizard00's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ooh, where in NC? I'm in Virginia, but I make frequent trips to the Raleigh area to visit friends. Would love to know when you get your business going. Good Luck to you! ETA: Nevermind I just looked at your profile and it says Raleigh. Yay! I'll be keeping an eye out for info about your business. -
ARCHIVED Disoriented, And Unable To Walk.
GlutenFreeManna replied to Dreamtemperature's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome Erin! A few things about your post confused me. When you say you had a negative blood test, did they test you for celiac? With your mother having it, it's very likely you have it too. You need to follow up with a heart doctor to rule out any heart condition, but I will tell you that I had some similar symptoms. Mine included chest pain and difficulty... -
ARCHIVED Ana Test (autoantibody Tests): Are Celiacs Positive?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Cheret's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had a positive ANA test when they were looking for the possibility of Lupus. I had to go back for a follow up test that was more specific and it came back negative for Lupus. I wish that I had looked into the tests and what they were really measuring now. The strange thing is that during my first test I had been in a lot of pain, but when I went back... -
ARCHIVED What Other Reason Would A Dr. Put Me On Gluten Free
GlutenFreeManna replied to Bren~O's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome Bren! I have to be honest I have NEVER heard of a doctor recommending gluten free when someone had negative celiac tests. Many people find relief of their symptoms from going gluten free, and then later find a doctor that supports their decision to go gluten free without a positive test result, but to hear about a doctor reccomending it is unusual... -
Yes, in general that is true. In the US they have to specify in the ingredients that it is soybean oil though. Another one to watch out for is "vegetable broth" in tuna. I found out the hard way it was actually soybean broth. It wasn't labeled as "contains soy" like it should have been, but when I went to the company website their FAQ did say the "vegetable...

ARCHIVED Gluten, Wheat, Dairy, Soy, Oh My!
GlutenFreeManna replied to tina a's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gluten is the worst for me. I will go to great lengths to avoid CC even if they seems silly and ridiculous to others. It is poison to me plain and simple. Dairy and soy are not as bad as gluten; They are about the same level as each other consequence-wise but with different consequences. With Dairy I bloat, belch and have stomach pains/D if I eat too... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Before Conception
GlutenFreeManna replied to sanamy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm sorry about your miscarriage. I have had fertility problems and miscarriages as well prior to going gluten free. I don't think I have read anything set standards on here about how long is best to wait. That depends on each person's personal health and life situation. You should consult with your doctors about it as well. For me, personally, I have... -

ARCHIVED Without Gluten And Rice, Where Do I Spread?
GlutenFreeManna replied to hoyhacesol's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You could make some corn bread or corn cakes (corn bread pancakes). Or try to find a gluten-free/Rice free pancake mix. Most pancakes recipes are pretty easy and can be made up in advance and frozen. So then you could just pull them out, heat up and spread with whatever you want. Sometimes I make peanut butter and jelly roll-ups with corn tortillas... -
ARCHIVED Modified Corn Starch
GlutenFreeManna replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The last time I picked up some Activia to look at the package said "may contain wheat". No way would I take that chance. There are lots of good yogurt brands that are gluten free. I like to make my own yogurt at home, but I also like Stonyfield which is certified gluten free as well as organic so you don't need to worry about modified corn starch: Open... -
ARCHIVED Can Someone Explain Sprouted Grains?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Aphreal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay I guess I shouldn't respond when I'm tired. I was thinking about this thread on SOAKING Gluten free grains: Not the same as sprouting I guess. Sorry. Here are some past discussions of sprouting: -
ARCHIVED Can Someone Explain Sprouted Grains?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Aphreal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There was a discussion about sprouting gluten free grains. I think it is to make them easier to digest. But it also changes the properties for cooking purposes too. I'm too tired to remmebr how, but I will try to find that thread. Some people that are not celiacs (just slightly gluten intolerant or doing this as a fad maybe?) claim to be able to tolerate... -
ARCHIVED Thoughts After Recent Blood Test
GlutenFreeManna replied to miobrien's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm not an expert at reading tests, but Thyroid conditions and Celiac are closely linked. I'm sure your friends meant well, but unless they are experts in celiac they may not have known that untreated celiac disease can lead to thyroid disease. Your should follow up with your doctor that ordered the tests and try the diet if all your celiac-related testing...
