  1. Raven thanks for sharing your story as you always do. I'm fairly certain this is what would happen to me if I challenged for testing purposes. I went through a denial stage very early in my gluten free eating where I decided to challenge by getting a regular pizza. The result was two days of pooping liquid blood as well as all my neuro symptoms coming...
  2. Thanks for the update. I need to fly in a few months and I was worried about this. I'll still be bringing plenty of food with me but it's nice to know there are gluten-free options at least.
  3. Oh, sorry I guess I don't know what puffed rice is then. I thought those cereals were puffed rice.
  4. I haven't tried this brand yet, but this is one I've seen mentioned on the board: Open Original Shared Link
  5. Okay, now I understand what you were asking better. This could explain why I react to anything by Bob's Red Mill (even though I don't react to gluten-free oats made by other companies). I don't buy their gluten-free products anymore, which is a shame because they are the most common ones around here. I wonder what their testing criteria is for gluten free...
  6. Hi, I'm sorry you are going through a rough time right now. Have you tried contacting your local celiac support groups? Perhaps they would know of a food pantry that would be more helpful than the ones you have encountered so far. Every food pantry is different--Some only give you a set bag or box and won't change what they give you (sometimes this has...
  7. Me too! My husband is trying to go gluten free so I made some Gluten free BC cookies for him. He said they were the best cookies I've ever made! (He may have been a little over dramatic, LOL, he's been deprived because I'm not baking gluten cookies anymore). Anyway I tried one (despite the soy) and I couldn't tell any difference between them and regular...
  8. I have read that some react to Oats the same as Wheat, Barley and Rye. Some lists even list oats as containing gluten though I think that is debatable. I have tried some certified gluten free oats and did okay with them but I don't eat them very often because I have read so much about oats (and other gluten-free grains) being cross-contaminated if not in...
  9. Thanks for posting! I have read about these one-minute muffins on low carb boards before and I have some ground flax but I always forget to try it. I'm glad to see that honey works in place of the splenda (I'm not concerned about the carbs from the honey). Do all of these work with a whole egg instead of just egg white? (I'm not concerned about cholesterol...
  10. Next time just ask them to bring you something like a Dilly Bar. It's gluten free and wrapped in plastic from the manufacturer so there's no cc risk from the cookie crumbs and things that Dairy Queen uses. Some Blizzards are safe if they clean the equipment well before making yours, but if you are really sensitive to CC go for the Dilly Bar or one of the...
  11. I know this wasn't exactly what you're asking for but I just hard boil a bunch of eggs to have on hand for easy breakfasts. I eat a hard boiled egg, a banana or apple and some yogurt most days.
  12. I wonder if that blogger used a recipe from the BC gluten free site or just tried to make something up? You can't use the gluten-free stuff in the same way you would use the regular Bisquick. I made a zucchini pie with the gluten-free Bisquick and it was awesome! I ate it for three meals straight it was so good. Someone posted the recipe here, but I do...
  13. That's an interesting thought; I have gotten visual migraines in the past. The migraines used to start with floaters or blurred vision and get worse until I couldn't do anything but lay in a dark room with a damp towel over my eyes. But I don't think that's what I'm experiencing because I didn't have any headache with the strange smell. The good news...
  14. I would be surprised if there's a website only for gluten free company job positions. I would start by going to each company website individually to see if they have any job openings. The bigger ones probably don't advertise it as a "gluten free job" they probably just use the usual job opening ads and other methods for announcing openings. Some only announce...
  15. Yes. The first few months I was gluten free I made regular spaghetti for my husband and I felt sick even though I didn't eat the spaghetti. My home is gluten free now because I'm so sensitive.
  16. What about cut up banana or other soft fruits? Breakfast doesn't have to be "breakfasty" foods either. What do you feed him the rest of the day? Anything you would give him for a snack or lunch or dinner you can give him for breakfast too.
  17. Interesting. My parents were casual smokers but they quit smoking before I was born. I did hang around with some smokers and did my share of going to smoky places in college (10+ years). But I had asthma and would never be able to stay around someone actively smoking or stay in a smoky environment for long, in fact I was really happy when my college town...
  18. Thanks I'm going to cut out the coconut aminos for a few weeks and see if it goes away. I was so excited to find them too. I really miss Asian food and I think I got a little carried away with them.
  19. In addition to what previous posters suggested you might look into other auto-immune diseases like lupus or thyroid diseases. Since those are common in people that have celiac disease. Get to see a doctor if this persists. Neurological problems can get worse and be really scary. I had memory loss, hair loos, balance issues, numbness, dexterity issues,...
  20. I am not a smoker and I don't go to smoky places like bars, nor do I work outside the home. At first I thought it might be coming through the wall from a neighbor (I live in a duplex/townehome type apartment and share one wall with neighbors) but it's definitely a smoky smell on my skin. It goes away after I shower but only for about two hours. Once I...
  21. Thanks Raven. I have gotten used to using Sea Salt and Kosher salt, maybe I will have to pick up some plain table salt with iodine again though. I still have scars from a rash I suspect was DH. I have been worried about it flaring again as I had it for two years and the dermatologist didn't know what it was, just gave me steroid creams to put on it. I...
  22. I have not read about this connection between iodine and depression, but I avoid iodized salt because I read that it can irritate DH.
  23. I'm not sure, but I have read that dentists are clueless most of the time about whether the products they use contain gluten. You may have to get the name of the glue and contact that company directly to be sure.
  24. Oh, no the method I use doesn't leave the crockpot on that long. That would kill all the good bacteria. The crockpot method takes about 15 hours total. The crockpot is on for 3 hours, then off to cool for 2.5 hours then the starter is added and it is wrapped in a blanket or towel and left for 8-12 hours (overnight). Here's where I first read about this...
  25. This is very interesting to me. Do you know why she asked you to change the method you use to make yogurt? I make my yogurt using a crockpot. What are the benefits to the method she recommends? Is it the longer time that is better or the heating method?
