  1. Many pasta sauces are okay. I always use the Italian type sugo's such as Provisto Sugo or Val Verde, La Gina. They are just tomatoes and maybe salt or sugar and no other added ingredients.
  2. Someone mentioned queing being a particularly English thing to do. I am in Australia and we queue too and no one would dare push in either. I don't think it is strange - it is polite to line up and wait your turn. I thought it was strange how Europeans would push each other out of the way to get first in line. I am sure you will find plenty of gluten...
  3. We tried the Freedom Lasagna and my daughter pronounced it just 'okay'. I tried a bit and it was not nice at all. Heaps of cheese and a bit rubbery tasting. The donuts got the thumbs up though.
  4. Is the pizza place you are talking about Wilsons in Bondi? If so, we had pizza there and I am confident they knew what they were doing. The pizza bases were made seperately to the normal ones then stored away from normal pizza bases. When they prepared the pizza they put it on a tray. I watched them do it and felt very confident in their ability not to...
  5. Where will you be going in Australia? If you tell us where you will be we can help you find places to go and eat out. Otherwise it is easy to find gluten free food in Australia. Just go to any of the major supermarkets (eg. Coles or Safeway/Woolworths) and there is a health food section which sells gluten free foods such as pasta, cookies, cereals etc...
  6. Well Coles at Southland (Melbourne) finally are stocking the products. We bought the donuts and the lasagna. So far have only tried the donuts and my daughter said they were very good. You just put them in the microwave for 30 seconds. I knew the range would be expensive though but it is worth it to have a ready made meal in the freezer for when...
  7. I got an email from Freedom saying that they shipped out the products to Coles distribution centre on 19th March and from there they will go to Coles Stores. It depends on each store as to which products they will stock. Does anyone know how expensive they will be? Remember that range of Freedom crackers that were really expensive? Hopefully they will...
  8. I would still check as you don't know what ingredients they are using even if it is the same dish you are used to eating elsewhere. We go to an Indian restaurant nearby here in Melbourne and they are very good. They understand exactly what dishes are safe to eat.
  9. Yes, they do have gluten free beer. I know what you mean about going out of you way to get gluten free food. We do that wherever we go. It is a good way of seeing places you would not normally go to. There needs to be a really good website for gluten free dining for Australia. The ozemail one is okay but is not updated and not laid out very...
  10. That sounds like 'Pizza Piazza' in Chapel Street, Prahran. Yes, we have been there quite a few times and it is great because they have an extensive pizza and pasta menu and the owner is a coeliac so they really do get it. It is very good but the pizza at Wilsons Place in Bondi is better. I really think Wilsons have perfected the gluten free pizza base...
  11. Thank you SydneyGF, Mango04, GFP and Tracey for your helpful suggestions. We had a great few days in Sydney and my coeliac 10 year old daughter got to try some delicious gluten freen food whilst we were there. Wellbeing - she had the beef noodle salad which was really very nice. They really should have signs in the store saying ' gluten free' on...
  12. I have never heard that you can absorb gluten thru the skin. There has never been any mention of it as far as I know in the Australian Celiac Magazine and they always report the latest findings. Maybe you are allergic to another ingredient in your shampoo or conditioner.
  13. Still none to be seen at Coles. Hopefully they will get there act together soon. Not sure if the hold up is with Freedom Foods or Coles.
  14. I looked yesterday at Coles but not there yet. When I contacted them they said it would be available from 12th March. Orgran are trialling ice cream cones and I bought some last week and gotta say they are almost as good as the real thing. My daugther who is the coeliac loved them.
  15. Maybe if you post in the general section you might get some replies from overseas members.
  16. I was under the impression that most of Wendy's ice-creams and shakes were okay except for the obvious ones that contain cookies etc. I have sent them off an email asking them for a list of gluten-free products.
  17. I breast fed my daughter for 18 months and she was diagnosed with celiac six months after I stopped feeding her.
  18. You will need to put him back on gluten to get an accurate result of the blood test. I would say he would need to be back on gluten for at least 2 weeks. I would check with your pediatric gastroenterologist though as to what they think. Is it celiac? Could be but then again could be some other kind of intolerance such as lactose. My daughters lost...
  19. Hi Saz, I have started a new topic re. these new products so we can all comment on them once we have tried them. The magazine was very exciting wasn't it.
  20. Freedom Foods have released a range of gluten free frozen foods that will be in all Coles supermarkets as of this week. Some of the products will be: Sticky date puddings, donuts, shephards pie, fish bites, crumbed chicken tenderloins, lasagna, salmon and vegetable patties, two varieties of pizza, rich chocolate muffins, blueberry muffins and crumbed...
  21. Thanks Saz. Very interesting though if they are anything like other Freedom Food stuff they will be over priced and not as good as they claim. Donuts - my daughter will be excited about those. If anyone tries them please come back on and give us a review of the products. My daughter finally tried the Freedom wraps and they did not wrap without...
  22. Thanks Mango for your suggestions. Will definately keep an eye out for those muffins - I am sure she will love those. The Iku Wholefood sounds good but not sure if I will be able to convince a 10 year old that it's good.
  23. Thanks so much SydneyGF for your great suggestions. I did a bit of research and already came across that place in the rocks but the others ones sound great too. I am sure that we will find gluten free food but it is nice to hear from a local. Thanks again.
  24. Hi, We are going to Sydney next month with our daughter who is 10 and a celiac. Do any Sydney people have any suggestions for gluten free food in Sydney CBD, Manly or Bondi. We will not have a car with us and will be relying on public transport and cabs. I notice a place called Wellbeing which is around Sydney and looks for for gluten-free...
