  1. Don't forget Germany (bratwurst). That was kind of a mishmash when you think about it (but a tasty mishmash).
  2. As Cyber mentioned above, poached fruit is lovely. I like to poach mine in Port or wine with vanilla beans BUT that is obviously an adult version! Another idea is to simply grill fruit directly on the grill. Pineapple, nectarines, peaches, etc. work very well. You can drizzle with a touch of a simple syrup, honey, agave nectar. Would she like watermelon...
  3. I love these with chocolate ganache, crispy bacon and peanuts - lovely sweet and salty combo.
  4. Me, too! I feel your pain. In fact, if I were to choose between the two I would find celiac to be easier to deal with than the pain of FMS. NOT easy having both, that is for sure. Hang in there, though. There are better days ahead!
  5. I've paid ludicrous (but worth it to me!) amounts of money for great ingredients such as small white truffles and tradizionale balsamico de Modena (50-year-old syrupy authentic balsamic). I would be more than willing to pay $100 for an entire loaf of chewy ciabatta bread (half grilled as brushcetta eaten with a wild mushroom brandy pate or rillettes, half...
  6. Nothing exciting tonight, I'm afraid. Have been in such excruciating pain lately. Lemongrass and Kaffir Lime Leaf Beef Stir Fry Bay-Scented Jasmine Rice Steamed Green Beans
  7. Still no relief whatsoever from going gluten-free six months. It is so rare for me to sleep well - probably about once every ten days or so. So, I do not know for certain whether it is due to my celiac disease OR mainly due to my chronic pain. It is very difficult for me to get into any comfortable position to sleep. I wake up about 25-50 times a night...
  8. I had one of those dreams - once just after my celiac disease diagnosis. My husband and I stopped by a diner off the highway (so goes my dream) when we were seated outside at a rustic table. Two others were seated there as well. We were brought complimentary doughnuts and mine was gluten-free. However, they all looked identical but I was assured mine...
  9. Thankfully that does not involve long flights! Our most recent trip did and I planned in advance by notifying the airlines who gave me (yucky) gluten-free meals but I also took lots of snacks along. Thank goodness I did because we had one major flight delay. One cool thing I noticed in the Venice Marco Polo Airport was an advertisement for a gluten-free...
  10. I may do it for $10K or more but would feel conflicted inside knowing what I did after being soooooo careful for nearly six months.
  11. Exactly! If I KNEW for a fact he lovingly put together the mix with his own two hands I would be all over it. Thomas Keller is one of my favourite chefs ever.
  12. How awesome is that? I am itching to try it and will report back. Thanks! Does it pass the Spread-the-Creamed-Honey Test?
  13. Wow - Ad Hoc and Bouchon? Mmmmmm...those are amongst two of the top U.S. restaurants. But $18.95 per mix? They are MIXES, for crying out loud. Not even scratch baking! If they could guarantee tasting precisely like desserts at the restaurants I can understand it but only for 1 or 2 restrained/self controlled people, not for an entire family. Maybe if...
  14. Grilling again...may as well take advantage of our short summers! Sweet and Spicy Grilled Shrimp with Salsa Fresca Grilled Zucchini with Ricotta, Fresh Mint and Pine Nuts Rosemary Skewered Baby Potatoes
  15. I am out of town at the moment but will look into it in greater detail upon my return. If my handout does not clarify I will speak to my dietitian about it and get her sources as well as I know she deeply believes the same thing.
  16. Blueberry muffin, strawberries and cranberry juice.
  17. School starts Monday already? Doesn't start here for another three weeks...
  18. The gastroenterologist said it is a fairly recent discovery and it actually not related to gluten but strictly due to healing of the gut. She has been tracking celiacs who eat/do not eat gluten-free oats and has found far more rapid healing in those who do not. She is known to be one of the biggest celiac advocates around and was one of those involved in...
  19. I have mixed feelings on this. I was eating gluten-free steel cut oats until my dietitian said I should not for two years post celiac diagnosis. She and I both attended a lecture by a leading celiac expert in Canada who said it is proven that the gut in those with celiac need at least two years to heal before introducing oats. I love oats... but am waiting...
  20. You're too funny. When my husband is away our kitchen table stands alone. Is the cheese at least Mexican? If so, which region in Mexico? Was the chili powder homemade or did you..GASP...buy it?? I'll let you get back to Mexico in peace...
  21. Sylvia, Sylvia, Sylvia. Just what ARE we going to do with you? Hey - maybe you should quickly squeeze a lime over your chili and you're set. That sort of counts for your minimum!!
  22. In case you are in a baking mood, these ice cream sandwiches are a breeze to make. The thing I love most about ice cream sandwiches is that you can switch up both the cookie base and ice creams to suit whatever you crave! My favorites, however, are still good old chocolate chip sandwiches with vanilla bean ice crea. Open Original Shared Link
  23. I think two dishes or more in one meal qualifies you. Just kidding! So, did you enjoy Mexico?
  24. Hi, Sherry, and welcome here! You can find out tons and tons of information by doing searches on this site. I was diagnosed with celiac disease in February and at the time was devastated but it has become sooooo much easier. The site has taught me a great deal that I otherwise would have never known/heard of. Hope to hear from you soon! Have...
  25. Cool! I love going to Thailand for dinner. We're going to Turkey this weekend then perhaps Korea.
