ARCHIVED Ot- What Makes You Cry?
love2travel replied to Nor-TX's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That is really sweet - it certainly got my tears going. I believe that I will see my beloved dog in Heaven one day and we will rejoice together. -
ARCHIVED Vietnamese Spring Roll Wrappers - Gluten Free!
love2travel replied to lucia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
They make great vehicles for appetizers such as little cups for savoury fillings (i.e. goat cheese mousse) or as crackers with hummus or roasted red pepper and walnut dip. Also yummy sprinkled with sumac, black and white sesame seeds, thyme, poppyseeds... -

So sorry to hear of your insomnia. Sleep is a miracle for me as well so I completely understand what you are going through. I recently went through six nights of not falling asleep (I was starting a horrible new med) and I could hardly bear it. Thankfully I do not work (other than teach culinary classes a few times a month) but I cannot sleep during the... -
ARCHIVED Ot- What Makes You Cry?

Correct! I live in Canada and use British spelling (i.e. "honour"). I read so many classic English books that I find myself using certain expressions and words such as "betwixt" and "whilst". That Curamin sounds very interesting. I would be willing to do pretty much anything for my pain at this point. I have tried nearly 20 kinds of prescription... -
ARCHIVED Ot- What Makes You Cry?
love2travel replied to Nor-TX's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oops - missed that minor Cliffs of Moher detail. Couldn't see it through my tears! (kidding) I've been known to carry bugs outside, too, especially ladybugs. OK - this will seem really dumb to many people but I actually scoopy up earthworms after a rain on the sidewalk/driveway and put them into one of the flowerbeds. Good for my plants and better... -

That's awesome. Many people assume that risotto is tricky to make but it is not! I love that there are hundreds of ways to do it. Very versatile, that little arborio rice! -
ARCHIVED Ot- What Makes You Cry?
love2travel replied to Nor-TX's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oh, IrishHeart! You got me all verklempt. My husband says one of the reasons he fell in love with me was my caring (did he mean crying?) nature. I know what you mean about dead birds! I got teary last week when I saw a dog I love toss a half-live mouse in the air even. Don't get me wrong - I despise mice - but also hate to see anything suffer. Get this... -
ARCHIVED Ot- What Makes You Cry?
love2travel replied to Nor-TX's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am an emotional person and easily moved in both good ways and bad. All you mention get me going and also I must add physical pain. My constant, unrelenting chronic back pain is so bad it at times is beyond tears but it makes me cry at times. The frustration from grieving what I can no longer do as a result of that pain sometimes makes me cry, too. I... -

ARCHIVED Granola Cereal Recipe?

This one is one of my favourites as I really enjoy the maple flavour. Easy, too. The only thing to remove is the optional wheat germ, of course. Open Original Shared Link -
I do not frequent the Sports and Fitness board (I am unfortunately not into sports other than golf) but the article caught my attention. How incredibly deceptive and misleading! I am so glad you responded how you did. Your comment is succinct and accurate. Hopefully folks will read it and gain a better understanding!

Your 20-month old has a discerning palate! What type of risotto are you making? I'm making mine with fresh herbs from the garden, white wine and citrus. Either that or Milanese with saffron but I thik I'll stick to the fresh herbs. Man, I love risotto. -
ARCHIVED Is Gluten Free Ever Easy?
love2travel replied to glutenfreewifey's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you very much for the sweet comments! It is true that gluten-free cooking can be very simple. One easy key is to use fresh ingredients for flavour, such as fresh lemons and herbs - that makes a tremendous difference. It is a lot of fun making your own seasoning mixes - I make my own lemon pepper from peppercorns, lemon zest, etc. and rosemary... -

Sorry - I should have clarified. When biopsies are done most surgeons only take 3-5 biopsies when it is essential that at least 8-11 (or even more) be taken from all over. It can be likened to doing soil samples - you must take many of them to get the true picture. This experiment of yours is truly an interesting one! Curious to see how this turns out... -
ARCHIVED Schar Ciabatta Rolls
love2travel replied to Streetlegal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That is exactly what I was wondering. If they are anything like their regular bread, no thank you, as I find their bread to be lamentable at best. Ciabatta bread is supposed to be chewy so I am afraid my disappointment would outweigh any excitement. I will just continue on my quest in making chewy gluten-free ciabatta (which so far evades me). -
ARCHIVED Local gluten-free Store Closed :(
love2travel replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah - way to go, Glutenfreemanna! Seriously, that is sad. We have no gluten-free stores in our area but I would be extremely disappointed if that happened. Not just for purchasing products but just the principle of the thing. We want as many gluten-free products/stores/choices as possible! -

ARCHIVED Bread Machine Question
love2travel replied to Marc49's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Udi's bread here is $7.49. Ick. I still prefer scratch gluten-free bread but do use Udi's the odd time. We have no gluten-free restaurants, bakeries or anything around here but thankfully I am able to purchase gluten-free products in the city three hours away. Not fresh, though - I live on the Canadian prairies! -
ARCHIVED Is Gluten Free Ever Easy?
love2travel replied to glutenfreewifey's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome here! You've come to the right place. gluten-free is not easy but it does get easier. My first two months or so post diagnosis were challenging but now I am nearly six months in and it is and it is a routine part of my life. The things I find most difficult are social situations and eating out. There is no safe place in our area for me to eat... -

ARCHIVED Bread Machine Question
love2travel replied to Marc49's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yes - I do have the super duper model. It is a bright cherry red (man, I cannot believe I forget the actual colour name because I deliberated it for ages!). It is the shiniest and cleanest thing in the kitchen. I lovingly wipe it down sort of like my husband shines his Porsche! I'm a little hung up on the darned thing. I'd take my KA over the Porsche... -

Although this recipe specifies halibut you can easily substitute pollack. Delicious! It is called Halibut with Nut Crust and Apple Vinaigrette (sorry - I cannot recall whether you can have nuts!). http://leitesculinaria.com/11694/recipes-halibut-nut-crust-apple-vinaigrette.html
