I would love to know the comparison between R and U. Would someone enlighten me on the texture, visual appeal, flavour? I have not ever seen R here (unsure if it is available in Canada) and am wondering what I am missing? I only eat bread about once a week (or less) because the real glutenous version is forever implanted in my brain so nothing compares... -
It's incredibly simple to make gravy. I have never bought gravy, in fact. After roasting whatever it is you are roasting, remove most of the fat, leaving a few tbsp in the pan, add a starch such as arrowroot or cornstarch (or even your favourite gluten-free flour - white rice flour works fine) and whisk in water and herbs and alcohol or whatever you use...

Glad to hear you are all moved in - hope you get into your routine soon. Too bad about your dishwasher. I am not exactly fond of doing dishes, either, but have so many specialty cooking things that cannot go into it. The only times we use it is when we have guests over. I cook so much that I must wash dishes a few times a day (i.e. cannot fit my 17 lb... -

How about individual pavlovas? They are so pretty and tasty. Or using some meringue make Eton Mess. gluten-free shortbread with panna cotta or semifreddo is nice. Butterscotch or chocolate brownies dressed with maybe a raspberry coulis or caramel are awesome. I've made chocolate chip cookie dough brownies and they are deliciuos. I've been making lots... -
ARCHIVED Have You Ever Gone All The Way Once You Realize You've Been Glutened?
love2travel replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can understand what you mean about going all the way if you've becomed glutened anyway, but I just could not do it. When I ate gluten (on my challenge) it did not make me sick at all. I've been gluten-free six months now and back in March was accidentally glutened but did not get sick. So, since the I have no idea whether I have been or not but am incredibly... -

ARCHIVED Can Pain Paills, Percacet Mimic Celiac Symptoms?
love2travel replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
When I was on Percocet they were gluten-free BUT that was a few months ago and of course, as we all know, things can change in a hurry. So, I agree - if you have not checked that, you really need to! -
ARCHIVED Can Pain Paills, Percacet Mimic Celiac Symptoms?
love2travel replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Like Karen I, too, am concerned with this disjointed post. Hope you are doing better now??!! Percocet, etc. can cause constipation, dizziness, nausea, vomiting... (I was on it in the past). I am starting a new pain med (for fibro and so on) and have been having a bit of trouble growing accustomed to it. It makes me nauseous, dizzy and causes general... -
ARCHIVED Toaster Bags
love2travel replied to mbrookes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use mine whenever we travel to B&Bs and so on (and when we regularly housesit at a friend's home). They are really neat little things! I bought mine from a health food store (4 per bag for $7.99 or so I believe and each is tested to use up to 50 times which is a lot of toast!). -

ARCHIVED Have You Tried The New Genius Glutino Bread?

This morning I saw an advertisement for this new bread. It is currently on sale for $3.99 which is unheard of (for me, at least, as Udi's gluten-free bread here is $7.99). I'm interested in seeing how it compares to Udi's bread. Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED Coconut Flour Cooking
love2travel replied to Krystalcatt's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh, there is tons you can do with coconut flour! I add it to lots of my baking. It definitely does need to be mixed with other flours - some flours are used for browning, some texture, some flavour and so on. It would not stand alone in most recipes as it needs more structure. Do you want more coconut flour recipes? gluten-free egg substitutes here... -

Almond flour is rather wonderful, isn't it? It is actually what is in the brownie recipe above (don't ask me why I was thinking coconut flour in that one!). Can I blame it on celiac or fibro fog? Coconut macaroons are nice with some coconut flour, too. I have 19 kinds of flours/starches in my freezers at last count. A little extreme perhaps? -

I bake with coconut flour regularly as I like the flavour and texture it gives to baked goods such as cakes, cookies and brownies. One of my favourites is Coconut Layer Cake with Coconut Buttercream (it seriously is an easy recipe which makes lovely cupcakes, as is the one for Brownies)... ARCHIVED Will We Ever Be Able To Travel?
love2travel replied to lovesaceliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The gluten-free meals I have had on flights are generally not very good. The labels were safe but the flavour and texture? Blech. Thankfully I took my own snacks along this past flight. By all appearances the meals were safe but it is hard to know with certainty on flights as they are pre-packaged and the flight attendants knew nothing about them. I... -
