ARCHIVED Fibromyalgia Or Celiac?
love2travel replied to HAPPY DOG SUZ's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Unfortunately my pain keeps me awake a lot at nights therefore rendering me exhausted and in even more pain the next day. I do walk 45 minutes a day and try to swim when I can and do gentle stretches. It is really tough having both FMS and celiac disease, that is for sure. So far being gluten-free has done absolutely nothing for my FMS. But then sometimes... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed...just A Little Support?
love2travel replied to SpiderD's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You've come to the right place! It is a tough thing to be told you have celiac disease. It takes a while to sink in. It is a process that includes anger, grieving, etc. When I was told I have celiac disease I too was stunned because I did not have the common GI symptoms. I went ahead with the biopsies for a few reasons - to ensure I truly did have... -
Thanks for your advice. However, I would have a very hard time eating something that has been CC'd deliberately. We eat such an incredibly varied diet as well with a lot of exotic ingredients (some recipes I like to make contain 30+ ingredients) so it would be tough to pinpoint. I have switched to a gluten-free toothpaste and ensure my supplements and...

Lacklustre! A thick chunk of homemade banana bread with flax and pecans and a piece of provolone cheese. -
ARCHIVED Need gluten-free Bun & Roll Tips
love2travel replied to organicmama's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Good point. I've had mine for awhile and have noticed that some brands of tuna would have the tricky-to-remove bottom. And those tiny tuna tins? Wow - those would make some mighty tiny buns! Wish I had some of those... -

You can use metal rounds such as tuna cans (after removing both top and bottom). Pretty economical and easy! -
ARCHIVED False Negative Biopsy Results?
love2travel replied to mollymoo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I recently read (an article on here, actually) that in the US only 40% of biopsies are done correctly - in Canada it is 39%. The biggest reason is that so few areas are biopsied. Most apparently take 3-5 and at least 8-11 should be taken for accuracy. Hopefully more and more surgeons are becoming educated on this! For my gluten challenge I was told... -
ARCHIVED Udi's gluten-free Buns
love2travel replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I tried one for the first time last night. They are the best I've tried, that is for sure. At $2 per bun they are pricey but they will be a treat. I do not think I will even bother making buns any longer! I am impressed. -
I know what you mean! I find it very hard not to have any idea whether I have been glutened or not. There is absolutely nothing I can trace to food because I nearly always feel consistently the same. Sure, I am in constant pain from FMS and herniated discs and chronic insomnia due to so much pain but I really wish I knew if I accidentally ingested gluten...

ARCHIVED Odd Benefits Of Going Gluten Free
love2travel replied to Cattknap's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel no different now than I did since going strictly gluten-free 5 months ago (gluten-free house, no CC). But I wasn't feeling sick from gluten to begin with. The only thing I notice is, as I already mentioned, my fingernails are now straight. I cannot wait until some neuro issues disappear! Now, however, I am having abdominal issues so I think it... -

My husband get goat whenever we find it! Yum. The only times I do not care about food is when I am sick. It takes a lot for me not to think about food! -

ARCHIVED Dental Work
love2travel replied to elefky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have had to have an emergency root canal and a filling since going gluten-free (in addition to cleanings). The thing you need to ask about it is the rinse (if they use one) and when you get your teeth cleaned the fluoride. I was not able to have a fluoride treatment! The actual crown/filling materials are fine for us. -
ARCHIVED 7-11 Slurpees
love2travel replied to kerrera's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just contacted them yesterday after reading this thread and was notified that NO slurpee flavours contain any gluten. Not surprising. But all that sugar??!! -
...or even into the moat (I guess lake) if you are desperate! This is rather embarassing but once I got stuck in a maze as an adult at a Scottish castle and came within seconds of missing the last bus of the day back to my B&B. There were some worrisome moments! I could hear the bus but just could not get out of that thing. I was already envisioning...

ARCHIVED What Would You Do With Jam?
love2travel replied to AzizaRivers's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Cleared out the fridge last week and found we have 34 kinds of homemade jam! I'm a bit of a food hoarder and get carried away with making preserves. Anyway, I use mine in many savoury ways including glazed duck breast, pork loin, rack of lamb, etc. I often swirl some jam or jelly into a pan sauce. You could make a fool, too! We had strawberry fool this... -

Leftover spicy rubbed pork baby back ribs with homemade apple butter sauce. With our leftover black garlic wild mushroom risotto I am making arancini. Grilled butternut squash with vanilla bean vinaigrette and goat cheese. -
The above recipe looks very good, actually. It is quite safe to leave those ingredients out. When I make ricotta cheese I do the same thing. I do not use mixes but do rather like this recipe (I like to make infused honeys and/or rum butter syrup to go with them). Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Fibromyalgia Or Celiac?
love2travel replied to HAPPY DOG SUZ's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
How awesome!! I was diagnosed with celiac disease in February and with FMS in April. So, I have been strictly gluten-free for five months BUT feel absolutely no relief from my FMS. Zero. Am thinking I may need to begin an elimination diet (?nightshades). But in my case I truly do believe I have severe FMS because I was involved in an accident ... -

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Had Troubles With Crystal Light?
love2travel replied to wilbragirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My chiro told me that for anyone in chronic pain (i.e. fibromyalgia) that aspartame can compound pain (especially muscular) and he was adamant that I exclude it. So, I have been aspartame free now for several months. -
I agree. No treat is worth the possibility of inviting trouble. When I last spoke with the company they told me that none of the Reese's peanut butter cups could be guaranteed to be gluten-free (and she admitted that the lines are not cleaned as well as they should be!). That was enough for me. I handed them over to my husband.
