  1. The following is a very basic blend... Open Original Shared Link So is this... Open Original Shared Link I buy dried chiles, dry toast them, grind them and make my own blends.
  2. Have you tried making your own? So simple and tasty. Open Original Shared Link
  3. Nothing wrong with stuff pulled from the freezer when you feel like it! Tonight we're doing the summertime theme thing because we still have LOTS of snow on the ground. But it has started to melt so we are in the mood for BBQ. We're having: BBQ Rubbed Baby Back Ribs with Apple Bourbon Glaze Roasted Potato Salad Steamed Broccoli Vanilla...
  4. I so agree. I think double will definitely work better. For some strange reason I have a sudden pizza craving!
  5. The Udi's crusts look like flat round discs but I enjoy the texture. But they'd only be of interest to those who like thin crispy crusts! Yes - I've tried that one. It is actually pretty good, isn't it? One of the better ones thus far...
  6. Sounds yucky! I really dislike Glutino and Kinnikinnick pizza crusts. Intensely. But I do like the thin crisp Udi crust. Have had some success with my own crust, too. I would do a lot right now to have true Italian pizza in Italy.
  7. I've never eaten much processed food on principle - I've never really liked much of it. Of course I do use olive oils and such but bring it back from Croatia where our neighbours make it. Scratch cooking/baking is more satisfying to me and I know precisely what goes into everything. There are very few gluten-free snacks I like, anyway, including mixes...
  8. I don't drink alcohol BUT cook with the following: - Brandy - Bourbon - Port - Sherry - White and Red wines - Various rums - Prosecco - Calvados I used to cook with beer and guiness (i.e. Steak and Ale Pie) but not any longer.
  9. For me diagnosis was extremely useful! I was (and am) asymptomatic so I really needed the diagnosis to realize how serious Celiac is. I would not have believed I had the disease, that is for sure. I likely would not have gone gluten-free if I were not diagnosed by both the bloodwork and scope. There would be no motivation. I loved gluten sooooo much...
  10. They are completely different things. However, tapioca starch and flour are the same thing. A bit confusing!
  11. I get saffron from my local grocery store or from my in-laws who winter in the US. It's expensive but it goes a long way! One of my favourite uses for it is Risotto Milanese. Very easy to make... Open Original Shared Link
  12. Ah...one of my favourite topics. Spices! I have over 100. McCormick's is gluten-free EXCEPT for a few seasoning blends. Penzey's is an excellent online company. Although they don't ship here to Canada I get people to pick them up for me from the U.S. I always buy small amounts of whole spices and grind them myself to make blends, dry rubs, seasoning...
  13. My health food store carries a product called Gluten Defense - an enzyme that enables your body to break down traces of gluten accidentally ingested. Usually I do not buy into this type of thing but as I am soon going to Italy and Croatia I wonder whether it is legitimate to take only when a meal is suspect (i.e. lost in translation in Croatia especially...
  14. Hopefully one day we'll see this and Chex and a host of other things available in Canada...especially Lea & Perrins Worcestershire!
  15. Agree with mushroom I've been gluten-free for two months and for the first two weeks felt pretty rough. My worst complaints were headaches with pain around my right temple as well as major carb cravings - MAJOR. I was very irritable and cried at anything. Those symptoms disappeared after two weeks. Hang in there! You WILL be alright!
  16. Or get someone from the US to bring it back! I requested a whole case of the stuff from my in-laws who spent the winter down south. When my husband travels on business he picks some up for me, too. Too bad he didn't have room in his luggage for Chex...
  17. Don't worry - we understand better than most. When I was diagnosed I was shocked as I am a silent celiac which means I don't have any symptoms that I know of. I did have several miscarriages which I attribute to Celiac but it does not make me feel ill, lacking energy, no neurological problems and so on. So, I found it REALLY tough to go off gluten. Plus...
  18. Not due to celiac but due to a horrible back injury. So, I have not been able to work for three years except teach cooking classes. I was a Human Resources Manager. Not easy to do when you cannot sit for more than 15 minutes at a time and stand more than 30 minutes. Nor is it prudent to work while taking all sorts of yucky intense painkillers! I...
  19. Basic and simple this evening: gluten-free Italian Sausages Braised in White Wine with Lentils de Puy and Potatoes Orange, Fresh Mint and Fennel Salad with Grapefruit Tarragon Vinaigrette Banana Bread Told ya it is simple!
  20. Awesome - glad you like it! If you want more let me know - I have so many recipes.
  21. I'm surprised, too, as the US in general has sooooo much more gluten-free stuff than we do in Canada. They are yummy for spicy salt cravings!
  22. Some of the following contain dairy but if anyone is looking for dairy-free soups I have billions (well, not quite)... Baked Potato with Leek, Cheddar and Bacon: Open Original Shared Link Butternut Squash with Apple and Smoked Cheddar: Open Original Shared Link Creamy Roasted Mushroom: Open Original Shared Link (of course just use gluten...
  23. I still make all my favourite soups and just substitute (i.e. homemade chicken stock for purchased - many brands in Canada contain gluten). Except I don't make beef and barley! Too many gluten-free soups to post 'em all because I literally make about 25 kinds including roasted carrot with orange creme fraiche, lentil, roasted red pepper with tomato...
  24. When I went on my gluten challenge I had tons of gluten - some days probably the equivalent to an entire loaf of bread! It was great fun I have to admit. No symptoms occurred in the three months I ate gluten so I was shocked when I found out I do indeed have celiac disease! So, you can definitely be asymptomatic as far as tummy troubles go and still...
  25. I contacted the company and was told they all are gluten-free EXCEPT for the wasabi and soy flavoured nuts and the Jordan ones. The chili lime are my favourites.
