  1. I don't drink much alcohol at all but I do cook with it often. I have quite the collection in my cupboard!
  2. Welcome, Lucy! Many of us here love food and love to cook. Do a search under, "What are you cooking tonight?" and the breakfast thread. You will find many great ideas. Thankfully many dinner and breakfast dishes are naturally gluten free, anyway.
  3. Now I'm laughing out loud. No, but good guess. But it is food related so you're on the right track!
  4. What a good guess but not quite...
  5. Hmmmm...great question! I can't remember...
  6. You girls are killing me over here...
  7. We normally do not do casseroles but we do like gluten-free quiche and frittatas which are both great for guests. I also like making fruit salads in martini glasses with a lime juice poppyseed glaze. I also make scones and several kinds of flavoured butters (and infuse some honeys) and serve with some of my jellies. Maybe tomorrow morning we will have...
  8. Love yours! I'll have to try to come up with something clever, too...hmmm....
  9. As they are hard, biscotti do keep longer than other cookies - in my experience several days to a week. I have not baked with mixes before so am unsure of the yield. According to the amounts of the other ingredients perhaps a couple dozen? The second and third recipes will make small amounts (they each only have one egg and small amounts of flour, for...
  10. Those deviled eggs are very good and interesting! Not our grandmother's deilved eggs. Do you have a good regular hummus recipe? If so, all you do is thinly slice about 3-4 large carrots (I used a mandoline so they would roast evenly), liberally drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with sea salt and pepper and roast about 20 minutes until they begin to...
  11. Good question! There are subtle differences. I bake a cake but roast carrots. I think this article describes it better than I could! http://www.reluctantgourmet.com/blog/cooking-techniques/baking-or-roasting/
  12. Love the above ideas. How many mouths are you feeding? Deviled eggs have made a huge trendy resurgence. My favourites are flavoured with a touch of horseradish and a bit of brandy. Open Original Shared Link Would you have time to make potato skins? They are making a comeback, too. They may need to be reheated but do not need to be eaten piping...
  13. Ouch - that is expensive! I've made them with other fruits such as blueberry, apple and cinnamon, and pear. Not sure what my favourite would be as I love them all!
  14. Change of plans. Not Thai tonight. I found some double-cut bone-in pork chops just begging to be used. So, we are having: Smoked Chipotle and Sweet Garlic Wet Rubbed Double-Cut Grilled Chops Twice-Baked Yukon Golds with Pancetta, Wilted Arugula, Mascarpone and Chive Oil Melted Leeks (braised with white wine) Chewy Chocolate Chip and Praline Cookies
  15. What happy news! Speaking of dairy intolerance, I grew intolerant and was strictly off dairy for about four months. Then I tasted some cheese one day without thinking and nothing happened. So, a few days later I tried some more. Then a few days later again, more. I am taking it easy but so far so good! Thanks for posting.
  16. That is a huge compliment - thank you so much! I have actually eaten at one of Jamie Oliver's restaurants and remember vividly what we had. My favourite item was meatballs stuffed with foie gras. There were also several little wooden salt cellars on the table holding various types of flaked finishing salts - the beginnings of my passion for finishing salts...
  17. ...or freshly-squeezed lemon juice in place of some of the liquid as well as lemon zest. I have never used a gluten-free cake mix and have a mean lemon cake recipe around here somewhere... Out of curiosity, what are the other components of this dessert/cake? Does it have a glaze? Simple syrup? Curd? Filling? As a baker I love to know these things...
  18. I have no idea! When I was diagnosed I had no obvious symptoms at all as I found out through screening. After going strictly gluten free I was tested and my antibodies were in the negative range. My most recent test shows the same which tells me I am not ingesting any gluten. I am super careful. I am so glad I did not get sick but did have miscarriages...
  19. Speaking of applesauce, when I make it I like to infuse it with fresh rosemary or thyme and I roast my apples first. I just love the roasted flavour!
  20. I've seen it here in Canada. Cannot recall which brands - perhaps Beatrice? Not sure. I know without question one company I contacted told me their chocolate milk contained gluten (malt). I just emailed Beatrice again to check. I was off lactose for months so have not checked until today. In Canada Lea and Perrins Worcestershire contains gluten...
  21. More of my Roasted Tomato, Garlic and Onion Soup - this time reduced some white wine to a syrup and added that to it. More Flatbread but I also made Roasted Carrot Hummus this afternoon which goes nicely with it. Tomorrow we are going to Thailand (well, in the kitchen, that is...).
  22. Hi, Rose. I'm wondering the same thing. If you give us more information we would be happy to help.
  23. As an aside, you and I are sort of neighbours. I live a few hours from Edmonton and come in regularly to do my specialty food shopping at the Italian Centre, T&T, etc. Edmonton has soooooo many gluten-free restaurant choices, too! I've eaten out at several places safely such as Corso32, The Red Ox Inn, Madison's Grill, Wildflower (they even serve gluten...
  24. Seriously? I've been craving chocolate milk since I was diagnosed! I thought I contacted Dairyland to ask about it long ago but I could be wrong. Will definitely look into this. ETA: Just called Dairyland and you are correct - there is NO gluten in the chocolate milk! HURRAY! Thank you so much. I had not looked into it for ages. I am going out...
