    ARCHIVED Newly Diagnoised

I was diagnosed in 1990 and back then Corn and Rice Chex cereal contained barley malt syrup and no was not gluten free. I avoided them for years and was thrilled to recently notice that both are now clearly laeled "gluten free" and I don't have to go to any special store to get them.
  2. I use Pacific Organic chicken and beef broth. It is labeled gluten free and is available in our regular grocery stores in New England. Swanson is also OK. The ones that aren't state "added wheat gluten" on the label.
  3. I agree with you. I don't have a gluten free kitchen nor do I expect my family to eat gluten free. However, if I am making a meal for the whole family such as stew, meatloaf, soup etc. I use gluten free breadcrumbs, thickeners etc. If it is pasta I just cook mine seperate and we use the same sauce which would be made gluten free. I don't believe in this business...
  4. The absolute best is Bonature. Leave it to the italians to get it right! Only thing is you do have to cook it about 3 minutes longer than the package states. It come in penne, fussili, spaghetti etc. The spaghetti is wonderful and twirls on your fork like regular. Had it last wek with home made pesto and a caprice salad. Look for the pink label. It comes...
  5. If it has WHEAT ANYTHING it has GLUTEN.
  6. If you get that kind of answer simply move on and use another product. I am not one of the people who feel that the world needs to cater to me just because I have a digestive abnormality. There are millions more products. My response would be: Thank you for your information and then just use something else.
  7. Check things like vitamins and supplements for starch fillers. Same for yogurts. I use Nature Made vitamins because they specifically say "gluten free," I did check One a Day on line in the past and are gluten free also.
  8. I've been doing this since 1990 and eat in all kinds of restaurants and not just here in the US. It's only been in the last few years that restaurants are offering special menus. It doesn't matter, I have not had a problem ordering off of the regular menus. Last week we went out and I had shrimp cocktail appetizer followed by a nice grilled veal chop,...
  9. If you were already on the gluten-free diet when you had the blood test you may have had a false positive. If you had not eaten any gluten you would not have had the antigliadin antibodies. If someone is going for diagnosis either by blood work or duodenal biopsy DO NOT GO GLUTEN FREE RIGHT BEFORE THE TEST.
  10. I've been gluten free since 1990. My kids and husband are not. However, if I made things like stew, soup or meatloaf etc. they were made gluten free and they didn't know the difference. If I made pasta I just made mine seperate. No big deal. The boys were great at halloween, they would bring back their trick or treat bags and they would read the labels...
  11. A lot of this has to do with attitude. I have been gluten free since 1990. Back when there weren't many stores carrying gluten free products. I was ordering things on the internet and they weren't very good. Once I was diagnosed I was thrilled to find out that this did not require medication, only dietary changes. I had a severe iron deficiency anemia...
