  2. Agreed, I was also diagnosed by bloodwork and +biopsy by a GI. No follow up by him needed but you need follow up the same as anyone without celiac. Depending on age: annual lipid panel, CBC, electrolytes. in some cases thyroid function, bone densitometry for osteoporosis (ages 50 +). This is follow up by your primary.   6. I've seen it on things like yogurt etc. If it doesn't tell the source I wouldn't use it.
  7. Most labels that say modified food starch will have the source right after it ie: from corn, from wheat, from rice. Don't use any that says from wheat.
  8. My husband is an internist and has diagnosed quite a few people who had no GI symptoms but the common symptom was an iron deficiency anemia that did not respond to iron replacement. Whenever he has a patient with an iron deficiency anemia and no cause of bleeding he checks for celiac.

  11. I wouldn't trust it. I did it once and they were terrible and then someone told me you can order a fruit plate which is what a lot of people who keep kosher do. The next time i flew on a long flight I brought crackers and snacks and had the fruit plate.

  13. Exactly, it's always hard when it's new. I'm the only one in my house and it isn't even an issue anymore. Any group meals are gluten free and for my own lunches etc. I do my own thing. My sandwiches are on my bread and they make their on their bread. I wouldn't put my bread down an a cutting board that their was lying on but I always just put it on a plate...
  14. Hebrew National are gluten free. They do contain soy but for those that only need worry about gluten they are great. So is the knockwurst.

  16. Once you get familiar with what to look for you don't necessarily need the label "gluten free". when my boys were young they would read the labels on their haloween candy when they got home and make a little pile for MOM. Too cute :-)

    It depends on what kind of broth is used t make it. Some chicken broths have added wheat gluten. When making it at home I always use Pacific broth. It is labeled gluten free.

  23. One of the oldest natural remedies is ginger tea or ginger capsules. Just check for fillers. Ginger has also been used to treat motion sickness.
  24. I've done mexican wih no problem. Be very careful that what you order says "corn tortilla" and not flour tortilla. I've had no problem with tacos with the hard shell and tostadas with the corn tortillas. Don't do soft tacos, they have wheat in the shell. I also don't eat the refried beans (only because they look too soft like something could be mixed in)but...
  25. PS: You don't need to add the thickener after. If I'm making stew I throw all of the beef cubes in a clean ziploc bag, sprinkle in the white corn flour, zip and shake. Voila, evenly coated. :-)
