  1. Not a problem. There is skin on a sweet potato or any other for that fact. Your worry seems excessive.
  2. I noticed your signature and saw the soy and dairy thing. If you are sensitive to soy, things on the gluten-free menu may have had soy or dairy because that would be allowed on a standard gluten-free menu. You might be better off doing what I do and picking grilled things with side baked potatoes, steamed or sauteed side veges, salads instead of trying to...
  3. Excessive urination can be a symptom of diabetes.
  4. Made some awesome fried green tomatoes last night.
  5. You know, I'm not so sensitive that a microscopic particle would bother me. I would never put my bread on the cutting board without washing and drying it first. I would send back a salad where they forgot to leave off the croutons rather than just take them off. I would never use a measuring cup that I had used to measure regular flour without washing and...
  6. Well, for example if I am considering a baked fish dish and it doesn't say on the menu if it has a topping I will ask and tell them I can't have any flour or breadcrumbs. If they don't know they will ask. For example buffalo wings can sometimes be breaded and I will always ask. I don't bother with the whole celiac explanation. I just say I can't have flour...
  7. I am still sensitive. I would get symptms with a small bite of something with gluten. You just get used to doing it.
  8. Ahhh Tina, someday I will learn your ways. I am just a young pad-wan, you are a jedi master! LOL! Thanks all!
  9. DITTO, DITTO, DITTO
  10. Honestly, it's not a big deal. what if you told her you were diabetic or deathly allergic to peanuts? What's the big deal. I'd rather hear this from a guy than HIV positive or Herpes or something a lot worse. You have a malabsorbtion syndrome and yay, it doesn't require any expensive meds or complicated treatments. It's all in the presentation.
  11. Skied at Lake Tahoe for a whole week. Ate at the ski lodges for lunch every day. No problem, there was always yogurts, fruit, french fries, salads, candy bars. Cooked in the condo twice, same meal for everyone, ribs, baked potatoes, salad etc. Another night made a spinach portobello risotto. Ate in restaurants several times, steaks, shrimp cocktail, potatoes...
  12. I would just stick with the diet and forget the biopsy. What would it tell you that you don't already know. Of course the doc wants you to do it. he gets paid for it. You already know the bloodwork is positive and you have positive family members. By yourself a nice gift with the $500
  13. I used to get them at least once a month but haven't had any since I have been gluten free...so 20 years.
  14. If anything I would think the hand sanitizer would be worse because it stays on your hand and would adhere the crumbs to your skin.
  15. You can eliminate the lactose question quickly by having a formal lactose tolerance test: Open Original Shared Link
  16. Since gluten in not a bacteria the sanitizer part is irrelevant. I would think brushing off your hands vigorously with a towel or paper towel would be much better. We are talking particles, not killing bacteria. Or just keep a bottle of water to rinse them off. The soap part doesn't need to kill anything it only emulsifies the particles so they rinse off...
  17. General Mills Corn Chex and Rice Chex are gluten free and clearly marked in large letters right on the front. Nice is yo don't have access to the larger markets with the specialty areas.
  18. The Erewhon brand is gluten free and comes plain, with berries and as a cocoa crispie. They are really good and also make good rice krispie treat bars. Open Original Shared Link free.com/index.cfm/manufacturer/Erewhon/958043-___-Crispy-Brown-Rice-Cereal-with-Berries.html
  19. I don't see why not.
  20. Bob's does not have it added. I make biscotti with it and without the xanthum gum the logs don't hold together. The xanthum gum binds the molecules together. I get the xanthum gum at Wholefoods also by Bob's. I just dump it into a tupperware and it keeps for a long time. Since gluten is the part of the grain which gives baked goods that springy texture you...
  21. The best gluten-free breadcrumbs I've used are Aleia's. They are dry and have italian seasonings just like regular ones. When used for chicken parmesan they brown nicely. They come in a resealable plastic container. They also do not contain soy. It is a Connecticut company. Open Original Shared Link
  22. I use Bob's Red Mill and use a regular cookie recipe and just add 1 tsp xanthum gum. These soft gingersnaps come out great with it. It was a regular recipe that stated 2 and 1/2 cups wheat flour. I just substituted. Gingersnaps This recipe makes a nicely shaped soft gingersnap. 2 cups of Bob
  23. I wouldn't use it because it doesn't state the source of the modified food starch. I agree on Breyers. Look at this list instead. No stabilizers, thickeners etc. I'd just add my own sprinkles. Open Original Shared Link
