  1. This thread is hysterical! My bf and I thoroughly enjoy every post. I read him the examples, and we both giggle. My most recent duh moment was with my Grandmother (she's 80). We were there for a bbq last week, and she made deviled eggs. I love deviled eggs, but I had to ask questions about the ingredients she'd used. When she told me she used mustard...
  2. On another forum topic, someone likened the ingestion of E-Coli intentionally, and just "dealing with" the D, tummy pain, etc later. Would you DIE? Probably not. Would you feel like crap? Probably. When my family questions me, I ask them if they like D and tummy pain. Most people don't. The "heavy" stuff, like damage to my intestines, and possible future...
  3. At my local grocery store (FoodMaxx) I found Betty Crocker Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix! My 11 year old is doing a trial on the gluten-free diet because he thinks he might have Celiac too. He's been watching me, listening to my symptoms, etc, and made a very "big boy" decision to try the diet and just see what happens. Anyway, knowing that he's a...
  4. Thank you so much!! We will go there this weekend! It's close for me...ut o! ((hugs)) to my fellow bay area Celiac Gal!
  5. I am home today going through a 4 weeks into GFD "glutening." Ugh. I made Bob's shortbread cookies last night with my kiddos. I used the same 'ol cookie sheet that I have always used, but I cleaned it very, very well. Not well enough I guess. It has to be the cookies. I gave my Dad some this morning when he dropped by (he is also a Celiac), so I am going...
  6. Hello friends. I just wanted to close this thread with my good news. After a nice long talk with the bf, and implementing some of the strategies you all told me to try, I have slept through the night for 2 nights in a row! Granted, it was only 6 hours straight, but for me, that was huge! I had been on the melatonin for about 2 weeks, and I wonder if the...
  7. First off, you are not a fraud! You know what makes you feel better. I had the same experience! I have negative blood tests for celiac and negative biopsies after an upper GI test. To go through that second test and still have it come out negative for Celiac was frustrating. However, while waiting for the results, the GI doctor I saw in the hospital told...
  8. I had gastric bypass surgery 3 years ago. I remember "missing" food so much back then. I would go to family and friend events and feel like the local freak show. People still watch what I eat very closely, and never seem to miss a chance to comment on "how little I eat." Now, since the Celiac diagnosis, I feel like an even bigger freak! My diet is so limited...
  9. Welcome, and o boy are you right about the "experts" around here! The advice is great, and the people are responsive and kind. Welcome, and I hope your first few weeks of gluten-free go well. When something comes up, as away!
  10. I didn't get the headache, but I got the nausea. In fact, I posted a question about it on this site wondering what the heck was wrong with me! Mine went away after about 2 days. Good luck to you!!
  11. Hi Jen! I'm Heather, and I'm new too. I was diagnosed via an elimination diet about 3 weeks ago. I am learning too, and this site has been the source of most my knowledge! The people on here are great. Kind, caring, and spiffy quick with their responses to our burning questions! Enjoy the boards and good luck to you! O, and welcome!
  12. Hey all. I am new to gluten-free, as most know. I finally had the guts to go out to eat today, not once, but twice! Well, the first time was "cheating" because it was a gluten-free specialty bakery here in Oakland, CA. But the second place was more of a fluke than anything. We were meeting a friend for drinks at another chain restaurant, and I saw the Outback...
  13. I love sushi! And other than the things the others mentioned, you should be able to eat it just fine. As far as "ethnic food" is concerned...I live in California. The people from Mexico eat something called "Menudo", which is cow intestines, cow stomach and other "innerds" and such. Talk about EWww! LOL. But like others have said, to each his own. I won't...
  14. I found out I had Celiac, got glutened once, and began to be a label reading paranoid maniac! LOL! I read all labels now. So carefully. You will learn what is safe and what is not....what to look for in the ingredients....what stuff is simply labeled so we know we can eat it. Good luck. And until you (and I) are experts, I think google is our...
  15. I heard/read somewhere that Trader Joe's Balsamic Vinegar is all bad. We actually went out and bought their "Trader Joe's White Vinegar" because my bf read that the caramel coloring in the regular balsamic was glutened. That's my idea. He made a salad for me Saturday night with the TJ's White Vinegar and I was fine. That's my honest opinion! TJ...
  16. Thanks, I am taking it every night. I have heard that you have to take it every night for a while before it works. I'm also taking 2-3 instead of 1-2 as the directions say. That was on the advise of a GNC employee when I complained it wasn't working. It's only been about a week of consistent use on my part, so if it starts to work it I hope it happens soon...
  17. Thanks! **Blush** Great advice. I probably should address the issue asap. I was just hoping that if I gave my body some more time to heal, it would work itself out. I'm newly diagnosed, and it seemed to be getting better until this stupid root canal/cap nightmare. But I will be TELLING HIM that I am leaving the room for sure! Thanks! ...
  18. Hello all. I have a question for all my fellow insomnia/sleep disturbance buddies. I have been batting insomnia my whole life. I have always been the type of person who gets up at least 2 times per night to pee, etc. I just wake up. Don't know why. Lately, well...since I got sick and later found out I have Celiac (so for about 2 months) I wake but can't go...
  19. First off, I LOVE this quote! This is exactly how I feel right now too! LOL! Stupid food. I'm about 4 weeks off gluten, and I too was not feeling 100%, so I also took out dairy. They make soy cheese substitute, "fake" sour cream and lactose free butter! You have to look, but it's out there. I live in Cali, and we have a grocery store called "Whole Foods...
  20. Wow Jason, not only have you gotten some great advice from your question, but I'm almost in tears myself from the great advice! We can all learn something from what people have said to you. I took a little something from everyone's response to heart! Thanks everyone! And thanks Jason for asking the question that brought about such insightful, kind and genuine...
  21. I am so sorry you went through this! My boyfriend has a similar problem with his cousin's kid, although they are far less....well....rude. Mario is great with kids, but he's one of those fly the baby, hold them in the air, pump them up and down and make 'em giggle 'till they laugh or puke guys. It makes some people uncomfortable, and he knows it. He...
  22. I am a terrible cook, and very new to celiac, so I don't have much in the way of suggestions. I know I use a lot of Bob's red mill products and go to Trader joe's for "Gorilla Munch" cereal. It's gluten free and even marketed to kids! YUM! I do have info on the vanilla thing: While IN the grocery store, despite seeing a "gluten free" label on McCormicks...
  23. I was severely ill in November of last year. 2009. After 6 days in the hospital with severe vomiting/D and PAIN, and a myriad of test, they finally ordered the HIDA scan. Sure enough my gall bladder was kaput! No Bueno! They took it out that evening and I felt better the next morning! Now, whether or not the whole issue began with a still hidden Celiac Disease...
  24. Forget the tests...go gluten-free now before she has a nervous breakdown! Unless she needs them for school, etc....of course that's your call. That's my honest opinion! Good luck,
  25. Woot! Good job and congrats!
