  1. My boyfriend says "Olive Garden" commercials gross him out, and he's not even a Celiac! Guess it's just the general gluttony of the "endless pasta bowls and breadsticks." Translation: "Endless plates of bloating, diarrhea and/or constipation!" LOL!!
  2. Rice Dream milk a no go...huh...who'd have thunk it.... ugh! I'm glad I read this now instead of finding out the hard way! Thanks Shauna! I have been Loving almond milk! It's soy, lactose and gluten free! Tastes great too! Plus I live in the central valley of California, where almonds are a HUGE crop around here! Blue Diamond brand buys a lot of the...
  3. Hello there. Call me crazy, but this California girl has no idea what "fish pie" is?! What is it made of? Basic ingredients, etc? That would help. Thanks!
  4. I have no idea which home tests/doctor tests are better. But I do know this.... I went through an upper-GI with biopsies AND doctor blood work while hospitalized for unexplained horrific belly pain/vomiting/diarrhea. While in the hospital, they had me "NPO" (no food/drink by mouth). Turns out that because when they took the biopsies and blood, since I had...
  5. Hey all, I ordered a BUNCH of Bob's Mill stuff off the internet about a week ago. I am very excited to continue baking with my new "toys!" Today i want to try his new gluten-free shortbread cookies. Has anyone made them before on here? Any suggestions? I find that manufacturer to be pretty spot on when it comes to the ingredients, and need very little...
  6. Tin foil for sure! That way your food won't touch their food and you solve the "was it hot enough" and "did we burn off for long enough" problem! I got lucky...I bought my boyfriend a brand new propane grill for Father's Day. The assembly was a daunting task, so he just the chance to put it together last weekend! He proudly stated "Babe, this grill...is a...
  7. Thanks everyone for your ideas. I am feeling a bit better today, but I think I will still ask my doctor to take some blood and check all my nutrient levels. I'm supposed to have them checked every so often anyway because of the bypass surgery, but with celiac disease comlicating the issue it's especially important. For now the tea is working and I ate better...
  8. Thanks! That is very helpful! I was fortunate in that my bodies response was initially very fast and miraculous almost. I will happily deal with some minor nausea while I continue down the path to healing. I bought some gluten free Ginger tea last night and it's helpful. I am sensitive to a lot of sugar, so candied (which I assume is another name for crystalized...
  9. Hello all. I have been gluten-free for about 2 weeks now, and something strange is happening. It might not be a celiac side effect but I thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone else has experienced this. I have my tubes tied, so I'm not pregnant. Lol! I have been getting very nauseous a bite or two into my food. It's happened three times now,...
  10. Marz Totally agree. My dad was very sick when he was formally diagnosed. I mean like skin and bones, major D and vomiting. Doctors were saying maybe cancer! O my! I am thrilled to not gotten that sick. No thanks! I'll take a before my death bed mild/inconclusive test result! Amen. Lol!
  11. Hi Tina! I understand what u are saying about having to just know ingredients and ask lots of questions. I am not a cook, so I am not familiar with ingredients in even the simplest things like you spoke of. Perhaps 20 years out you are not as sensitive anymore? I know my dad has celiac and was dx'd in his 30's. He was very sick and had to be very careful...
  12. No worries vent away! Hello! I too have "negative" bloodwork and even a "negative" biopsy! I went through the endoscopy even and STILL got a "negative" for celiac! Despite those results, since I had been in the hospital "NPO" (eating or drinking nothing) for 3 days before those tests, I was still told to try the gluten free diet. After having amazingly...
  13. I am just reading your post tonight and wondering if the GI doctor had anything good to say? How upsetting! It sounds like fluid retention but then at night its almost like you're taking a diuretic! Strange?! Well, I hope you found an answer. Do tell!
  14. Thanks so much for the been there, done that support! I love the idea of aluminum foil! I think I'll put a roll of foil in my car to have at a moments notice! (I have family local, so it's not unusual to be going over there last minute for a meal.) Great idea again! I am not good at ending conversations in general, and I find myself defending...
  15. Num1~ I too have been battling with a lot of sleepiness since my Celiac diagnosis. For example, I never used to be able to sleep in cars, but yesterday, I slept the whole 3 hour ride home from vacation! I am a teacher, so I have the summer off. Thank goodness! I need to adjust and figure this stuff out, because once school starts again my funky sleep...
  16. ***I just realized the typo in my heading. Oops... weekend, not weeked... LOL. That's what I get for posting at 2am! Sorry!*** This past weekend, a cousin of mine got married up at Lake Tahoe. I tried to prepare as best I could for my food-challenged weekend. We started with a hotel with a full kitchen...good choice. Then we shopped before the weekend...
  17. I am pretty sure that they are not gluten free. In fact, I blame those little yummy gems (I loved the blueberry) for sending me into a tailspin that ended up with me in the hospital finally getting diagnosed with Celiac! LOL! So check your labels, but I'm pretty sure that they are called "multi-grain" cakes, and have all sorts of barley and wheat in them...

    ARCHIVED Dr Issues

I don't know much about Canadian healthcare, but I do know that you have Celiac Disease!! I am in the middle of a terrible accidental glutening thanks to a pre-made Tao Chai Tea mix I bought at Target. Man do I remember this pain, and it sucks! This is my first bad glutening since beginning my new diet 2 weeks ago. Ugh! I hope by tomm I will feel better!...
  19. I had a post that looked just like this 2 weeks ago. My body said "you have celiac", and my blood tests and biopsies said "you don't have celiac." I listened to my body, told my doctor about the amazing changes despite the lack of official blood tests proving I have celiac, and he told me he was officially diagnosing me based on positive reaction to a diet...
  20. Thanks to everyone for the good ideas. Raven, yes I live in a "friendly" state, haha, but I will certainly run for the Pepto first thing to see if it helps. And Sue, thanks for the non-narcotic ideas! Peppermint tea? I'd never had thought of it! Thanks! Ultimately, like Raven said, I know I will spend less and less time feeling like crud on the couch...
  21. Yes, I understand your concern and thank you!
  22. Of course. That's always a concern. If my GI doc is willing to take over my pain med needs for occasional glutening I would stop getting an RX from my regular doctor. I really think that my back pain is headed in the direction of 100% recovery! This excites me very much! Thanks!
  23. Hello friends! I have been living with severe chronic back pain for over a year now. Since being diagnosed with Celiac Disease and changing my diet, my back pain has gotten way better! I mean, we are talking like 80% better! I have talked to my regular doctor, and we are going to start tapering me off the pain medicine! This leads me to my GI question...
  24. I agree 100%. So glad you are feeling good. I too and feeling amazing. Better than I have in a long time! My despression is lightening, my anxiety level is lower, my back pain is better, and, well...you get the idea! Enjoy! I know I am!
  25. Hello all. I was out and about today, wanted a snack, googled the frappé and it took me here, to my friends at celiac.com. I read the thread and decided to go for it. Got a small Carmel no whipped cream. 15 mins later I started to feel terrible. My belly started to grow and I started to sweat?! However, 1 hour later I felt fine. I am thinking maybe it ...
