  1. Baby Claire is my fourth baby, my “last” baby, and one of the greatest gifts of my life. She is the first baby I’ve had since being diagnosed with Celiac Disease and going gluten free. Because of this, I spent a lot of time during the postpartum period obsessing/fretting/freaking out about if/when I should expose my dear baby to gluten. I felt that I nee...
  2. Although I am pretty sure that I had Celiac Disease for more than two decades before my diagnosis, I was not diagnosed until after my 3rd child was born. Looking back, my diet during my first 3 pregnancies was a gluten-filled nightmare. I am actually glad that I have no idea how sky-high my celiac antibodies probably were while I was pregnant with my oldest...
  3. Hi, I lover running and have done several halfs. I've used the Hal Higdon programs. Whenever a time is suggested, i.e. 30 minutes, I've just converted it to a reasonable distance. In training I've found it's best to be flexible, because life is going to get in the way of the 12 week training plan. Best of luck to you! My favorite foods while training have...
  4. Hi Gatita, You may want to check with your lab to see what they mean by anti-gliadin antibodies....my recent labs were done through LabCorp through my M.D.s office and the results which were reported as anti-gliadin antibodies were actually DGP antibodies (as if things weren't confusing enough at baseline). So, perhaps you did actually have the right tests...
  5. The best luck I've had with information on non-celiac gluten sensitivity is to go to pubmed.gov and actually read the abstracts and then journal articles for myself. In December 2012 there were several great articles published in this area. I can send you references if you'd like.
  6. I did contact Hershey's out of curiosity and they are now made on dedicated lines, so there is no longer a risk of cross-contamination during processing, like there used to be. This is an example of how much can change for a product in just a few years. It's also a reminder that we need to be diligent about calling companies and investigating if we are unsure...
  7. I have recently went off of dairy and cannot tolerate soy, so I am looking for a milk substitute. I recently got glutened from Almond Breeze Almond Milk which was labeled as gluten free (I am pretty sensitive to cross contamination and found out after the fact that the product is milled through barley during processing). Have any of you been able to drink...
  8. In 2011 Reese's PB cups did not contain gluten but were made on shared lines with gluten containing products, therefore, Hershey's would not put them on their gluten free list. Are they now on dedicated lines? I have not contacted them to check as I stopped eating all of their products back in 2011.
  9. Hi, I had a neighbor who was diagnosed with porphyria and had a lot of the same symptoms as you. I no longer live near her but she had some other autoimmune issues too. It is a rare condition but it effected many of her organ systems including her kidneys and I remember her saying that it took years for her to get the right diagnosis.
  10. Hi, I've noticed that Target has began to label their generic brands as gluten free within the past year and a half or so. I was able to take their generic Allegra last summer without a problem and I am very sensitive to cross contamination. Not sure if this is an option for you, but wanted to let you know. J
  11. Okay, if anyone ever searches and finds this thread, do NOT try to bake out this cookbook. The ingredients are difficult to find and expensive. My cookies and muffins were horrible.
  12. It took me about 3 months of being on the gluten-free diet until I felt like I could begin to train and increase my distance....but everybody has a slightly different road to recovery. The best thing is to listen you your body's signals. Bear in mind that it can take up to 2 years for your GI tract to heal. I've also found that I have to be extremely careful...
  13. It took me a good 18 to 20 months to get pregnant as my body healed from Celiac and I now have a healthy 9 month old. Also, like you, I get crazy "hormonal" type symptoms after getting glutened. I wish you the best!
  14. I thought that I was getting glutened from this beer (it used to be my favorite gluten free beer) but I was actually reacting to the sulfites in it. I had never had a problem with sulfites until about 2 1/2 years into being gluten free. If you find yourself reacting to other gluten-free beers, wines, and/or ciders, you am want to look into this further.....
  15. I am very sensitive and have used Dove products for years without any issues.
  16. Hi Meg, Here is a link to an article which I recently read which summarizes research on the passage of celiac antibodies into breast milk: Open Original Shared Link This is a great website for information on the effects of maternal ingestion of medications, herbs, foods, etc. on the breastfeeding infant. Jess
  17. Hi, I am a celiac, mother, and pediatrician. I try my best to read all of the newest research concerning problems related to celiac disease while pregnant, breastfeeding, etc. and I have not come across any info linking gluten exposure in utero to palatal formation or function in a baby/child. I am not trying to say that the 2 things are not related, just...
  18. Hi, Just to update. All is good with the Florajen 3 probiotics. I am 5 days into taking them with no adverse effects. Thank you for the ideas mamaw! I have had my TSH/Free T4 checked every 3-4 months and all is good there. J
  19. I have not been on this forum for a while. I just purchased Florajen probiotics and am wondering if any of you have taken them. If so, have there been any major adverse reactions/side effects? Have they seemed to help you? Also, have any of you began to feel cruddy again after being gluten-free for a few years? I was diagnosed in early 2010 and for my...
  20. I am having pins and needles pains in my hands and feet, right more than left. I am on Vit B12 1000 mcg/day and just had my level checked and it is >1000, which I believe is good. It's funny that you mention yoga, because I am signed up for my first class tomorrow (I last did yoga in college about 15 years ago). I am hoping to do it regularly. My neurologist...
  21. I have just been diagnosed with a peripheral neuropathy related to celiac disease. My symptoms started about 1 week after being accidentally "glutened" earlier this month. I began to get numb and tingling sensations in my hands and feet. My neurologist told me that celiac disease is now the 3rd most common cause of neuropathy (behind alcoholism and diabetes...
  22. This is an awesome thread....looking forward to trying some of these recipes out with all of the apples we've been picking!!
  23. Hi all, I was recently given a copy of the "Babycakes" cookbook which has recipes from the Babycakes Bakery in NYC. The photos of the cakes, cookies, etc. look wonderful but there are a lot of expensive ingredients which I am not used to using, such as evaporated cane sugar. I am wondering if anyone has baked from this book and if so, how the recipes turned...
  24. Thanks for all of your replies! I will press forward with this project in some form and will hopefully eventually be able to report back on what I find in the future.
  25. Although I have likely had celiac since I was about 8 or 9, I was not diagnosed until 2010. I began to have severe symptoms when I was about 3 to 4 months postpartum with my 2nd in 2008 (bloating, sharp abdominal pains, insomnia, joint pains, etc.) I became pregnant with my 3rd shortly after this and I went into "remission" I think...although looking back...
