ARCHIVED Glenwood Springs, Colorado
anerissara replied to anerissara's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Oh, yea! Thanks! What kind of food do they serve there? Thanks again! -
I know it's a long shot, but we're leaving this afternoon for Glenwood springs...anyone know of a good restaurant that has a gluten-free menu in that area? Thanks!

ARCHIVED Trident Gum
anerissara replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been wondering about gum myself...I think I may react badly to xylitol and manitol (spelled those wrong, I think) but I *love* chewing gum because it helps my jaw. Sigh. I do notice when I chew a lot of it my D gets worse. I'll have to look up the glee gum, but I hesitate to chew gum with sugar because of my teeth....hmmm, i wish they made something... -
That's *exactly* my story! It was so frustrating, I couldn't lose the weight after baby #3 no matter what I did. I could seriously not eat a thing for several days, and if any weight dropped off at all it would ALL come back the second I ate anything....even a stick of celery would cause me to gain 3 pounds. The first week gluten-free, I lost 3...

We had a baked potato with cheese and bacon, he had a burger w/out the bun and a frosty (chocolate), and I had a chili with cheese. I guess maybe something could have gone wrong behind the scenes, like they dropped some bread crumbs on the food or something? I'm trying to remember what we both may have eaten besides that in the last week, and so far I'm...

Ooooo, this is annoying! My son (now 10) and I are sick, and I can't figure out why! I have been having symptoms for nearly 2 weeks now, with cramping and D and just feeling wiped out and tired. Then, my son started getting tummy aches after eating dairy last week, and by Friday he was having terrible cramps and D, too! Today both of us are better than...

ARCHIVED Marshmallow-millet Squares...yum!
anerissara posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The other day I made some really yummy marshmallow-millet squares and I wanted to share the recipe. I called the company that makes the puffed millet (Arrowhead mills) and they said that the product itself is completely gluten-free but it's made in a facility that also processes wheat. They also said that they wash down all their lines between batches and... -

Cougar, how did it go? -
ARCHIVED Quick...baking M&ms?
anerissara posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ok, I made some millet marshmallow bars that look really yummy (think rice crispy treats but with puffed millet!) and mixed some of the mini, baking M and M's in with them. Now I'm nervous because although I don't see any suspect ingredients on them and I know the reuglar type are gluten-free I can't prove that the baking ones are. Anyone know? The faster... -
ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries
anerissara replied to ShortStuff2309's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sadly, I just checked both the website and another source Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Both say that the fries contian wheat ( I don't know how much or if it's a matter of not being able to *prove* there's none, but I'm not up for taking any chances. Sigh. Oh, well....it wasn't my healthiest habit anyway! -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Hair Color?
anerissara posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hiya, I'm looking for hair color (semi-permenant, the type that lasts maybe 6 weeks) that's gluten-free. I'd love to get a really good one that won't fry my hair and is easy to use. Any advice? Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Hypermobile Joints - Ehlers Danlos
anerissara replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My son appears to be "double jointed"...that is, his joints are really, really flexable. He can pretty much tie himself up in a ball with both legs behind his head and roll around...does the "human jumprope" where he laces his fingers together and jumps through both arms, then raises them over his head and 'pops' his shoulders, all without opening his hands... -
ARCHIVED I'm So Discouraged! My Son Is Not Doing As Good As He Was At First.
anerissara replied to ARK's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yup, you have to be very careful about pepperoni, lunch meats, sausages, hot dogs...even bacon! They often have wheat binders or wheat starch. I remember back to making meatloaf, how many recipes call for bread crumbs....same idea with the meat products. Also watch out for meatballs, because it's hard to find commercial ones that aren't gluten-full. i... -
ARCHIVED Got Sick From Outback gluten-free Menu
anerissara replied to angel42's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Oh man, don't even get me started! I got glutened just about every time I ate there until the last time, when I got a waiter who had glutened me a couple of months before and still felt bad about it He was really serious about it this time around and I got a great meal with no reaction. They were really busy the last time I got glutened...I mean... -
ARCHIVED Swollen Fingers
anerissara replied to flxmanning's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If I get a bad dose of gluten, I retain water like CRAZY! My face gets puffy (but not so bad that other people notice much) and I can feel it in my hands, where my fingers get stiff and don't bend like usual (that's a bad description, sorry...it's hard to describe!). My hands also itch and break out with little blisters, which doesn't help the not being... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free, Xylotol Free Gum?
anerissara posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know of a gluten-free, sugar-free gum without Xylotol? I think I heard that Xylotol can cause D, and I'm always chewing Trident so I'm wondering if that's contributing to my problem. Or is it something else in gum that can cause the D? Maybe the sugar substitute? Any advice? Thanks! -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Pink Girly-girl Bday Cake... Yum!
anerissara posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Ok, I know I just posted about my first cake success, but I had to add this one for those of you with little girls...a "real" birthday cake! And my hubby's picky family all liked it, in fact one of the relatives who is not gluten-free got the recipe because she liked it. My dd just turned 4 and she wanted a "pink cake with white frosting and flowers... -
ARCHIVED Nestle's Response...gluten-free List
anerissara posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been looking for a gluten-free strawberry milk mix to use in a cake...here's Nestle's response to my email. They included a gluten-free list that is helpful: November 29, 2006 Dear Nestlé Consumer, Thank you for taking the time to contact us about Nestlé® Nesquik® strawberry and chocolate. We welcome questions and comments from loyal con... -
ARCHIVED I Have Achieved...cake!
anerissara replied to anerissara's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
*blush* Yup, looks like the signature is a wee bit out of date! Thanks. I love it when I have a baking success now....I used to bake all the time, but it is so frustrating (and expensive!) when something doesn't turn out that I haven't been trying as much as I could have. I certainly never used to do a happy dance in the kitchen just because my cake... -
ARCHIVED Mainstream Gluten Free Beer!
anerissara replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Really? gluten-free beer in the supermarket? Hmmmm, I haven't had a beer in 2 years. I actually don't know if I want to start....all those calories, and in the state I live in you have to go to a state-run store to get any beer that's over 3.2 % alcohol. Sigh. Although if they come out with it I'm sure I'll give it a try. It would be nice to be able... -
I live in utah, too....I've eaten there and it is really, really excellent! Their gluten-free pasta is better than any I've ever had.
-
I can't believe it! I've been trying for 2 years to get a cake to come out resembling the real thing, to no avail. I don't like the mixes I've tried because they are too sweet and don't come out much better texture-wise than the ones I make from scratch, so I'd given up on birthday cakes and just started to make ice cream cakes or cheese cakes whenever...

I am so jealous of you guys with solid poos Whew, never though I'd say *that* in a public forum! Seriously though, my digestive system is still really messed up even after 2 years gluten-free. I was talking to my hubby the other night about it, since going off the gluten I have been at least 75% less miserable, but I still have D pretty much...

ARCHIVED I Broke The News To My Mom...
anerissara replied to shai76's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do a fun pumpkin cheesecake....I use crushed Midel gluten-free gingersnaps and butter for the crust (yum!) and top it with lots of whipped cream, drizzled with carmel sauce. I made a regular pumpkin pie the other day with a crust made of 1/2 rice flour, 1/2 tapioca starch. I don't roll out the crust, just press it into the greased pan and it turns... -
ARCHIVED I Broke The News To My Mom...
anerissara replied to shai76's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
LOL Yup. His mother and aunt are both lactose intolerent, his aunt has also been tested with wheat and soy intolerances....however, both of them will still eat the foods that bother them and just deal with the consequenses. I guess they don't understand that with a nut allergy, you can't do that! I *know* they don't understand that I really can't eat...
