ARCHIVED Gluten Free Tortilla Chips
Cheryl-C replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use TIFCO tortillia chips. They are labelled gluten-free, are trans-fat free, and are multi-coloured so they look pretty. (nice for parties ) -
ARCHIVED A Couple Of Days Of Disappointments
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I actually don't know about oats. I haven't had them since going gluten-free 7 months ago. I've heard about the gluten-free ones but I haven't seen them. The local stores carry Bob's Red Mill products (that's where I got the buckwheat) but I don't know if they don't carry the gluten-free oats or I just haven't seen them. I'll take another look. Thanks... -
ARCHIVED A Couple Of Days Of Disappointments
Cheryl-C posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I went to the grocery store a couple of days ago, and found tortillas by TIFCO that appeared to be gluten-free. (They make the tortilla chips that I love!) So I eagerly bought them. When I went to eat one .... I couldn't finish it. It was so BAD-tasting that I couldn't bring myself to eat it. *sigh* This morning, I tried Bob's Red Mill buckwheat hot... -
I know this doesn't help your current situation, but I take D Drops for vitamin D. (I'm in Canada too!) They are everything-free except vitamin D and a little veg oil. On the box it says this: "Each drop (0.028 mL) contains Vitamin D3. Non-medicinal ingredient: Thin vegetable oil. DOES NOT CONTAIN: corn, dairy, egg, gluten, lactose, peanuts, shellfish...

ARCHIVED Processed 'gluten Free'
Cheryl-C replied to williamsburg000's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'd say I maintain a balance. Lately I've been making the move to more a more organic style of living, (so fewer processed items) but having found a few grocery store items I love (and a couple of restaurants) I can't (won't?) give it up altogether. That said, many of the "processed" things I buy from the store, I buy organic: no additives, flavourings, colourings... -
ARCHIVED Allergy Test Results
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hmm, thanks for the info. It's so weird, but seems to be accurate. Yesterday, absolutely everything I ate was for-sure gluten-free, and I made sure to throw in about 3 different kinds of dairy. Sure enough, my ears were on fire by the time I went to bed, and my lower abdomen has been bloated all day. Part of me is afraid that if I totally eliminate... -
Is anyone familiar with Ocean Wonder Kelp as an organic nutrient/supplement? Our favourite waitress at our favourite local gluten-free-friendly restaurant recommended it to me because of my low iron and dietary restrictions. She gave it a glowing review, talking about how her iron levels are up now, she has so much more energy, her skin has cleared up, etc...

ARCHIVED Allergy Test Results
Cheryl-C posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
As I've discussed on here before, I have food-related ear pain/inflammation, though we were not sure of the source. I went for allergy testing, and it came back with a strong reaction to MILK. Ok. This is where I get confused. I eat dairy EVERY DAY. Every single day. While it's true that I can't tolerate milk by the glass these days (stomach cramps... -
ARCHIVED Is There A "what Did You Eat Today" Thread?
Cheryl-C replied to okieinalaska's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Good idea! Breakfast: Honey Chex with skimmed milk Lunch: gluten-free (homemade) bread, toasted, with light creamed cheese and cucumber slices. Green grapes for dessert. Snack: Babybel cheese, green grapes, 2 gluten-free sandwich cookies. Dinner: (haven't had it yet, but here's the plan) Salad: lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, red pepper, cold dinner... -
Thank you both for the insights! I'll admit to feeling a little overwhelmed, as there is so much information out there. In fact, it's reminding of me of when I first went gluten-free ... that feeling off "too much information" swirling around. Codetalker, thank you for the book names; I will definitely be looking into those. Hopefully a post-Christmas...

ARCHIVED How Did You Feel After 6-Months On A Gluten Free Diet?
Cheryl-C replied to gifree's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've just hit my 6-mos mark, actually. Aside from a little bloating lately (coming down after a gluten-free carb-fest, ugh) I have definitely been feeling a lot better. I can go out after eating now (before, I used to get hit with D a lot) and I don't feel so sluggish. Yay! -
After being compelled, thanks to the gluten issue, to read every single word on every label on every package in the store, I have decided it is time to start making the change to organic. I'm sick of reading ingredients I can't identify, or even pronounce. I'm tired of artificial this and fake that ... ugh. I can't take it anymore! So, where do I begin...

ARCHIVED Food For Life
Cheryl-C posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If I remember correctly, there was some discussion on the boards a while ago about Food For Life gluten-free tortilla wraps, related to undisclosed barley in the filtered water. Is this right? If this is right, let me ask this: After a company notifies about a contaminated product, would you ever trust that product again? I saw the FFL wraps at my grocery... -
ARCHIVED Tortilla Chips?
Cheryl-C replied to norahsmommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I buy TIFCO - they're pretty (red, blue, and white) and labeled gluten-free. -
Since going gluten-free, I've found one or two glasses of wine can feel like four or five glasses. Someone suggested to me that it's because as a gluten-free person, you're not eating the pastas and breads WITH your wine to help soak it up... anyway, just a thought.

The first time I read this, all I could think of was reading the label on a tub of ice cream: We do not put any ground beef in our ice cream. However, since we do not TEST for ground beef, we cannot say our ice cream is vegetarian. CYA much? Anyway, I didn't see Southern Comfort on the list, but I was on the website recently and they list it as...

ARCHIVED Popcorn At The Movies
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Update: We went to the movies on Friday, and I had plain popcorn (no topping). I ate it hesitantly at first, but after it didn't make me sick, I relaxed and enjoyed it. No pain, no problems. Yay! -
ARCHIVED Popcorn At The Movies
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the link. So basically it looks like movie popcorn *should* be gluten-free, but no one is willing to commit 100%. I didn't even think about the cc from hot dog buns, etc - my brain must be on vacation today. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Popcorn At The Movies
Cheryl-C posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So I know that the air-popped popcorn I make at home, with butter, is gluten-free and awesome, but what about at the movies? I may be going to the movies tonight, and would love to have some movie theatre popcorn. (They just do it better!) Is there any reason I shouldn't? What about the topping issue - butter vs becel? -
ARCHIVED Rice Chex
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh wow, I never even considered that ... I wonder if that's the issue. The corn ones don't give me any trouble at all, but I really think these rice ones may have been the culprit - or at least part of it. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Sour Cream
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ok, thanks everyone! I appreciate your thoughts -
ARCHIVED Rice Chex
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Skylark. Isn't it weird, about who reacts to what? I brought up my cereal boxes: gluten-free HONEY NUT CHEX Corn meal Sugar Whole grain corn Honey Salt Molassess Brown sugar syrup Canola and/or rice bran oil Natural almond flavour Natural flavour BHT added to preserve freshness. gluten-free RICE CHEX Rice Whole... -
Can anyone clear up some confusion about sour cream? I checked at the grocery store today, and they all looked like they should be gluten-free. But a little red flag popped up in the back of my head that there's something about sour cream ... anyone?

ARCHIVED Rice Chex
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ok, thanks for the ideas. I guess you're right, the box just might be off. How does that happen though? Isn't it made a dedicated facility? Arg!
