  1. I agree with all the comments so far. I realized I was lactose intolerant when I had a bowl of ice cream after being gluten free for a couple weeks. I may have had lactose problems all along but my Celiac symptoms might have covered it up. Anyway I tryed all the gluten free milk substitutes and didn't like them but many people do. I have chosen to take Lactaid...
  2. Not all autolyzed yeast extract has gluten but it depends on the source. Someone wrote on a different thread that they had contacted Lipton and were told it was gluten free, except for the kosher one. I guess we need to hear it from the horses mouth.
  3. I was diagnosed hypothyroid last year and then Celiac this July. If my thyroid is autoimmune (Hashimoto) is it important to know this. I go in for labs this Thursday and don't know if I should ask for differnt Thyroid tests.
  4. Ok, this puts me in a dilemma too. My GI doctor found my Celiac but also that I had GERD and a hiatal hernia. I don't feel my GERD because I guess my hiatal hernia keeps it from coming up but my doctor put me on Nexium. I asked when I could get off it because I don't like to take medicines if I can avoid them. She said I had to take it for a least 6 months...
  5. Good question. I may try Lipton Onion soup again since it says made in a facility that processes wheat. It doesn't say may contain traces of wheat. There are certain products that I can't find substitutes for.
  6. I am trying to switch over my personal care products. So far all the hair sprays I have used have gluten in them. Does anyone know of a safe hair spray. Is there a product line that has all gluten free stuff and can be bought at a local mall or store?
  7. I kinda thought Cool Whip wasn't too bad for us. I have been using Lactaid milk and didn't think I was having any problems with it. I do have to admit that I had a latte with real milk and maybe that was it. I just don't really like Soy milk and I don't like any of the other "substitute" milks. Anyway I hate my diet, who doesn't, so I make rich gluten free...
  8. I am a new Celiac so I am still learning. I had a bowl of Ben and Jerry's ice cream a month ago and had a reaction. My intestines where having a bubble bath of their own. I thought the ice cream was gluten free so I assumed that I now had a lactose intolerance. For a month now I have tryed to be lactose free but yesterday I decided to cheat with using Cool...
  9. I did try Fage and it is good. I think it is better than Dannon Greek so I will do Fage from now on.
  10. I hadn't thought of that. I have been busy working on learning food choices and now and going to watch personal care products but it is a long process. I almost think make-up and such is even harder to evaluate. At least I don't have DH but I am going to switch everything over as I learn more.
  11. I went back to the store and read the label again. Now it says - processed in a plant that also processes wheat so I decided not to buy it again. Maybe it is ok but for this week I chose another recipe.
  12. I made the oven baked chicken that is on the Betty Crocker site and it was good and easy to make.
  13. Good to know. I wonder if I am ever going to figure out how to read labels.
  14. I am another IBS person and had it for 30 years. Now this year I find out I am a Celiac. I always had constipation unless I was having an "IBS" episode. I think everyone who has IBS should be tested for Celiac.
  15. I just looked at my label for Redkin hair spray #18 and it has wheat in it. I can almost taste it when I spray. Should I be using another product or just try to keep my mouth closed when I spray
  16. I saw that too on their dry mix package. So is it or is it not gluten free. I would love to use it but I didn't buy any.
  17. Thank you, my children are age 33 and 30 so the decision is up to them but I will continue to send them information to convince them to do testing. So far I haven't had any luck but they are both busy parents. My daughter is 7 months pregnant so I worry about her the most. She has an adopted son and then got pregnant but was told she probably would never...
  18. There are mornings like today that I think this whole thing is impossible to figure out. I spend hours on the computer and feel like I am just making a dent in my knowledge of how to be gluten free. I can't imagine how some people who work or are busy mothers do it. Anyway I picked up some Fage yogurt yesterday. I liked Dannon's greek yogurt but will try...
  19. I agree, it was very helpful for me as a new Celiac. They do post updates with changes on their web site. So check that every once and awhile.
  20. I am going for my yearly blood work next week. Last year I was found to have Thyroid problems but no other problems. Then in July this year I was diagnosed with Celiac by biopsy. I was wondering if I should have other things added to my normal blood work like added Thyroid testing that isn't on the normal test or anything else that might be helpful to know...
  21. That is encouraging news. I am hoping for the same thing. I am new to the diet but my bone scans weren't getting any better in spite of taking calcum and Boniva. My GI doctor who found my Celiac said that my back pain will probably go away too. I hope many of us Celiac's can look at the positive side of things.
  22. Crest and Colgate are safe which is the most important thing but I too wonder about soap.
  23. I had a scone for breakfast almost everyday before my diagnosis. I have tried different recipes but haven't come up with a good one yet. I love to put chocolate chips in them and eat them with clotted cream. Can't use the clotted cream anymore since I am lactose intolerant but someday hope to. Maybe someone knows a lactose free whip cream that I can mix with...
  24. I was just getting ready to ask that question and need the same answer. I was taking care of my grandson and it seemed everything he ate had gluten so I washed my hands a lot. I have a good lotion that is Shea Butter but I don't know if it is gluten free. I had it before my diagnosis.
  25. I am sure this has been discussed but it takes awhile to look through all the posts. I am newly dignosed with Celiac. Should my daughter and son be tested and what about my sisters and brother. Also what tests should they be given. My daughter was told if she didn't have symptoms that testing wasn't necessary. I have a sister who has auto-immune diseases...
