  1. WOW! Good for them! No problem with empathy for each other's health issues... ;-)
  2. Reading your post reminds me of when I was first diagnosed...it's a bit of a roller-coaster ahead for you...so, just hold on, and you'll soon enough be coasting into MUCH better health - I, too, am casein-intolerant...I waited to go CF, though, as I knew that gluten-free would be hard-enough... About what you can eat...there's loads of stuff...you...
  3. Just tunred 49....got diagnosed about 1 1/2 years ago no...went gluten-free then...went CF also about 9 months ago...feeling better all the time, but recently got contaminated by Mrs. Mays snacks, which USED to be gluten-free... am feeling better, again, after realizing what was making me have symptoms starting again... I've recently read that it can...
  4. To add-on: I have HLA - DQ-8 - the gene found in only 5% of Celiacs. When my 'obvious symptoms' developed I was in grad school. working 36 hours per week, had been held up a gun point and the robbers came back to the house during the night, and tried to brak in, so we had to move the next day to protect ourselves (as the gang was shooting people) ....
  5. Hi - It depends on the Lab - different labs use tests from different companies, therefore the 'positive range' can vary from lab to lab - After I was gluten-free for over 50 days, my IgA was 29, but the lab's test had a "positive" range as equal to or greater than 30...because I had been gluten-free for 50+ days and had a very-near-positive IgA, and a...
  6. THANKS!!!! I'm thrilled to find out what's what! I will copy and paste that add'l info. Good to see you still active on here, Richard! Nice to meet you, Katrina and Penguin :-) Gina
  7. Hi, Steve. It's great that you asked for support! What can I tell you, from my experience? Well....It's important to not allow one's partner (if partnered) to make oneself feel like a burden, in any way - IF your partner ever acts like you are being a hypochondriac, or being too concerned with doing this 'medical treamtent' correctly, or anything like...
  8. Thanks for the link - that IS heartening.
  9. Maybe you'll find something new here, to help protect yourselves... From: Open Original Shared Link Beware List For Gluten-Free Diet printable version "Wheat-free" does not necessarily mean "gluten-free." "Gluten-free" does not necessarily mean "gluten-free." BAD advice from health food store workers, friends, relatives, and even doctors! DO YOUR...
  10. FINALLY, ONE explanation for why the excess gas came back - I bought them when they said Gluten-free, and assumed they still were - I am SO upset that the Gluten-free Mall didn't even know! The open 'emergency bag' in my car will have to go - back to trail mix that I make myself - I have become too complacent about keeping myself gluten-free. It's...
  11. I was interviewd, too - and am also pleased with the resulting article. Kudos, David. Gina
  12. You cannot beat their rice penne :-)
  13. GREAT THREAD! Here's more than five - but, I like all of these so much!: Tropical Source Dark Chocolate with Hazelnuts (I usually have some every night with a glass of red wine) Spectrum Eggless-Vegan Light Canola Mayo 1-2-3 Gluten Free Silky and Rich Brownies Mix (instead of oil, I use "Earth Balanace's Soy Garden Natural Buttery Spread melted...
  14. THANK YOU for sharing about those! I just ordered 2 sets - one for my sweetheart's car - in case he wants to get take-out :-) They aren't even expensive! Yippee! Gina
  15. I figured it was a typo but, decided to make sure to not confuse the newbie while I was throwing in even more info about lactose vs lactase... Welcome back, btw! Good to see you on here again!
  16. 'His" Tangy Bang is good, in my opinion - I use it to add to stir fry veggies, etc - BTW, if you order from the Mr. Spice web site, it's cheaper than at other sites, and you get free bottles with larger orders.... I think it's worth trying different gluten-free products like these, seeing which ones you like and then trying to copy the ingredients, if...
  17. It's actually 'lactase': "The enzyme that splits lactose into glucose and galactose is called lactase, and it is located on the surface of the small intestinal villi," so when the villi are damaged, the lacTOSE intolerance results - This is why Celiacs often can return to consuming lacTOSE after being gluten-free for a while - --------------------...
  18. Yep, :-) sometimes reading our forum threads can make it sound scary to eat anywhere.... It's REALLY nice to see lots of good hints/info being added onto this thread to add to our safety, though! The companies could benefit from some of this info, too...I am thinking of doing a Celiac Disease awareness volunteer thing with restaurants and chefs in...
  19. Just chiming in - I don't think Stef, or anyone, is 'condeming McDonalds' that I can see - I think Stef was simply saying that McD's employees are not trained in this stuff - Anyway....as already said..... One must always check to make sure that each separate restaurant, no matter what the company, is following company protocols. Make NO...
  20. Try this one: Open Original Shared Link Thanks :-), Hope you enjoy the article - I found it to be well-written. Gina
  21. This is a "printer-friendly" URL - hoping it will work: Open Original Shared Link See usable URL below....
  22. nah - that's just my chosen avitar that I found at the Daniel Johnston fan forum site ( www.rejectedunknown.com) , at which I am a fan-member - I recently had nose reconstruction (with catilage transplant) to repair damage done in a fall as a kid and 'threw in' a lower face lift while I was at it, so I no longer lool like my old pic - So, I thought I...
  23. Just adding some info about going CF (casein-free): Ghee is OK - "Clarified butter". I like it :-) I would not go soy free until trying gluten and casein first (unless you test positive for allergies to soy). I feel it is best to get rid of the 2 obvious offenders and then see what happens, because you do not want to eliminate all foods at once...BUT...
  24. I am grateful to all of the moderators who volunteer their precious time here. I, too, learn SO much here and do not know where I'd be right now without having had this forum! "Happy Turkey-Day to all!" - Scott, too! oops - and a "Happy Tofu and Veggie day," to any herbivores... Gina
  25. I see from the above posts that GM is for genetically modified. Got it, now - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Surrey girl - your posts are very informative, like Claire's. I hope that your son's 'negative gene' can one day be turned off completely. About casein-limited - Are you using...
