  1. A service dog for Celiac? I think spending more time learning to read ingredients and protecting yourself from cross contamination is more important. Service dogs are usually reserved for people who can't do certain things on their own. Celiacs can keep gluten out of their diets just fine but it takes practice. A dog isn't going to be able to determine...
  2. Some people seem believe that if the bread isn't called "wheat bread," then it doesn't actually have bread. Like white and oatmeal breads. Kind of baffling.
  3. I wear a ring twenty-four hours a day that was guaranteed by the company to be pure sterling silver. It's the only jewelry I wear and have never had a problem with it. I'm not picking up cheap "sterling silver" from a department store. If it itches, I take it off. But I wouldn't trust anything in my ears ever, even if it was guaranteed. A ring or a...
  4. I never knew that. I can't handle nickel in jewelry
  5. Yes, it absolutely makes sense that your more sensitive to it now. If you had no problems with gluten, you would have no problem eating it again. My mom went gluten-free the first month with me and was perfectly fine when she ate a slice of gluten bread the other day. She's not Celiac or gluten-sensitive so it doesn't have any affect on her. I've never...
  6. I didn't have colic nor any digestive issues as a baby. No health problems of any kind, actually, until I was in my twenties and my Celiac symptoms started popping up.
  7. You took her off gluten before her blood test and biopsy or am I just reading that wrong? She needs to stay on gluten until she's tested or you're risking a false negative.
  8. Don't worry about whining. I'd be surprised if there was someone here who hadn't broken down in frustration at one point or another...several times. Two weeks after I was diagnosed, I started crying in a grocery store and had to just leave my cart and get out of there. You need to push harder with your school. Can you get your doctor to go to bat for you...
  9. That makes a lot more sense, particularly for people who get D with their symptoms.
  10. Where did your doctor get the 70% number? I asked my GI about dairy when I was first diagnosed and she said to try cutting it out for the first several months and then reintroducing it. She said all but a few of her patients are perfectly fine with dairy. I'd think if it had been scientifically proven that 70% of Celiacs couldn't tolerate casein, you'd...
  11. Definitely. I've traced my symptoms back to an interminable bout of bronchitis I had my freshman year of college
  12. It took me a long time to get a diagnosis too. I've been gluten-free a little over a month and still feel symptoms. My GI doctor said it could take months before all my symptoms disappear completely. But knowing the source of all my problems has at least begun to put my mind at ease. The anxiety, however, was one of my first symptoms to disappear...
  13. Do you have acid reflux or did your doctor check you for acid issues? Since I was diagnosed, I've been going through issues with bloating and a little reflux that my GI doctor said wasn't at all unusual. Acid problems can cause bloating.
  14. I think you need to relax and enjoy it. I'm a worrier, too, but if you feel better when you don't eat gluten, be glad about it. It could be Celiac or it could be a gluten intolerance. If you really want to know, you can go back on gluten and find a doctor to test you. But you need to be eating gluten daily for your test results to be normal.
  15. If he's been off gluten for five weeks, his biopsy would definitely be effected. As far as genetic testing, it's not proof of Celiac. People can be carriers of the gene/genes without every actually expressing them. We have all kinds of stuff in our DNA that we don't necessarily use. It's just there because it was passed down to us. My mom gave me this meat...
  16. Celiac can't be diagnosed through a colonoscopy
  17. Yup! Air popper is great. The popcorn is always safe and I can melt some soy-free, dairy-free "butter" to put on top of it. To me, it tastes better than the microwave popcorn, especially since it's physically impossible for me to burn it.
  18. I'm gluten-free, dairy-free, and soy-free now too so most commercial dressings are out. I usually mix some olive oil, vinegar, spices (garlic and onion), and a smidge of sugar, to taste, and use that. Oh, okay, I put in bacon bits too. I'm weak. Super weak.
  19. It was definitely problematic that you were off gluten. If you want positive
  20. I've had to give up processed foods for the time being because they were still messing with me. But Utz potato chips state gluten-free on the bag are pretty good. They're not loaded with a lot of extra salt so you can actually taste the potato. Nom.
  21. It absolutely could, and probably, did effect your results. People going through the testing are required to continue eating gluten daily right up until the day of the test. Going gluten-free for a week could effect your results. Your doctor was wrong. Generally someone who's been gluten-free for any length of time is put on a gluten challenge before testing...
  22. Before the endoscopy, they give you a small cocktail of drugs similar to cold medicines to make you very drowsy. You're technically responsive
  23. You're definitely a Celiac candidate but if you want accurate test results, you need to keep eating gluten. Cutting it out for even a short time can effect your tests. You need to keep it in your system. And I'm surprised you didn't see diarrhea as a symptom since that's always been the classic symptom of the disease although many of us don't have it.
  24. Four days isn't enough time for an elimination diet. I've always heard a minimum of two weeks and some people even say six.
  25. Yes, please get copies of all test results from your doctors and your kids' doctors. I found out a couple weeks ago that I actually had abnormal blood tests months ago that could have gotten me a diagnosis much sooner but the doctors just ignored them and I never knew because I always just got a vague phone call telling me I was fine. Now I requests copies...
