I would actually recommend a DO or MD (but preferably DO) who practices functional medicine for all people with Celiac. They look at the whole picture and what all your Celiac is causing. I had never heard of functional medicine or DOs until lately, but the DO I just saw was right on the nose with everything. You can find doctors at www.functionalmedicine...

ARCHIVED How Were You Diagnosed?
julie5914 replied to krisb's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Highly positive bloodwork from a research project I volunteered for for IBS. Got $250 out of and AND a celiac diagnosis after they mailed me the results. I never had endoscopy because the blood results were so high. 4 months gluten-free and I still have some symptoms. I the IGG and IGA were 60 and 106. I can't remember which was which, but they were both... -
ARCHIVED I Need A Crash Course In Fibromyalgia.....
julie5914 replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have not been dx with FMS thank goodness, but I have pain in the following places, where my doctor touched and said these are the places gluten hits: - right shoulder blade towards middle of back - low back, sacriotic nerve - outside of hip and legs Each of these places are where I have chronic pain and she hit them right on the nail. Is this where... -
I get pain on the left when breathing in sometimes too, bottom of the rib cage. I haven't had any pain relating to the breast bone though. I have had injuries that refuse to heal, likely because of the malabsorption. Probably on my body's "to do" list once all the little villi are happy. Haha, "To do:" 1. Have digestive system act normal, whatever that...

Weird, yeah, when I have had to push for a BM, it feels against nature - as though I'm pushing something that's not supposed to come out.

ARCHIVED Free Of Celiac Symptoms, But Suspect I Have...
julie5914 replied to LLCoolJD's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have the loose, floaty ones after fatty foods too. I haven't tracked it though to link it exclusively to fatty foods. Have been gluten-free for 4 months, last exposure where I injested it was about 2 months ago but I just recently got rid of some conditioners and lotions that had it. -
Hi, my mom was diagnosed with gestational diabetes that stuck around - they thought it was type 2. They never tested her Insulin LEVEL! I reality, every time her body had a stress, i.e., getting pregnant or sick, her immune system attacked her pancreas and her blood sugar would shoot up even more, eventually to where she couldn't regulate with diet. So...

This is interesting - I have had ovarian cysts (which ruptured - ouch) before I started birth control several years back. Futher tests were never done to see if more cysts existed in other places or for endo. I did have my isulin resistance checked a few years back in fear of polycystic ovarian syndrome, but I was not found to be resistant. Have you had that...

ARCHIVED What My Gastro Wants To Do Now...
julie5914 replied to Wandering Hermit's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you can have trouble with absorption with other diseases of the intestines like Chrons and parasites. Upper endoscopy makes sense to see if there is still damage which could either mean you are still getting gluten somehow or are a slow healer and can also test for a myriad of other problems, including growths, ulcers, cancer. He may not know... -
ARCHIVED Corn Gluten?
julie5914 replied to gymnastjlf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
And thank you for asking this, because I was just about to. I found some frozen dinners that were ok until I saw that ingredient. I threw it back in the freezer at the sight of the word gluten, but I am so glad to know it is ok. Sometimes it's just nice to have some convenience food around so I don't kill people in my mad hungry rage. -
ARCHIVED Hidden Gluten In Drinks?
julie5914 replied to Billygoat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not sure where IBC drinks are made, but caramel color from outside the US is sometimes not ok. Also check for malt or barley in those. I've found that after being gluten-free for a while I am a little more sensitive to chemicals, so artificial flavors and sweeteners are not flying so well with me, though I don't think I am being glutened. Sometimes cherries... -
It doesn't seem to be searching for phrases. If you enter one word, you are good, but if you enter a phrase, even in quotes it will use an OR search instead of an AND search.

ARCHIVED B12 Deficiency And Medical Incompetance
julie5914 replied to canadianbowlofcherries's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, I have always heard that doctors can be age prejudice in that they care more about the yound ones and not the old ones, but I have always had the opposite impression. They tend to think that since I am young, I must be healthy, and therefore it is nothing they should really look into or "just IBS." Or that I'm crazy. Actually I think a lot of the... -
ARCHIVED Todays Endoscope Results
julie5914 replied to krisb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Kris- I did not have an endoscopy, so I can't answer most pertinent question of what this means, but yes, it does definitely explain the malapsorption. I do also know that sometimes scary lymph words are used when people get back their endo results, but it turns out to not be anything major, just something that comes along with celiac. They are... -
What's in that Fleet stuff that you drink? I'm not sure if you can have it but it works....maybe too well. If you take it at night, you will be up all night, and if you take it during the day, let's just say avoid being around people. It will clean you out though.

ARCHIVED B12/iron Deficiency & Acne !
julie5914 replied to Evonneda's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Interesting about the dairy. I have had skin problems creep up within the past year too. Cystic acne, which I have never had before. I also use ProActiv, and it does help. I have tried a bunch of the cheaper brands, and this is really the only one that helps. Are you sure your iron is low, or is it ferritin? I was always told my iron was low and started taking... -
I have never been on thyroid medicine, and I wonder if it would help. I have the neurological problems, weight gain (10-15lbs), cold all the time (friends call me a reptile), hair falling out more than usual, acne, lump in throat. Like many others of you though, I keep getting "normal" lab results and a dead end. It's quite confusing. I wish they would...

ARCHIVED Insomnia & Severe Night Sweats - Please Help!
julie5914 replied to GlutenFreeStudent's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Should probably be checked for other things too - when they diagnosed you with celiac, did they screen for the related disorders? Skin crawling and night sweats are especially associated with rheumatoid/tissue troubles. Then again, they could be neurological troubles that are simply related to your previous gluten-filled days. -
ARCHIVED I'm Getting Recalled!
julie5914 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, if you can stand the wait, have them schedule the scope a couple months out so you can eat gluten for that time, about 2 pieces of bread, as Kaiti said. Otherwise, it sounds so much like celiac and sounds like your health is falling fast, you could just skip the scope, go gluten-free now and start feeling better. Be strict if you do! Likely, the only... -
ARCHIVED This Answers So Much!
julie5914 replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey Nancy, As the others said, it sounds very much like Celiac. I hope you can get the blood test soon. The Gluten Free diet will make that stuff so much better if gluten is your problem. I had your problem on and off when I on gluten. It was extremely embarassing. It would often happen to me at the gym in the morning before I had even eaten anything... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Slap My Doctor In The Face
julie5914 replied to Lena's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When I supposedly had IBS, Bentyl didn't do a thing for me. Zelnorm helped a little. THe gluten-free diet (after I kind was tested as part of a research project) resolved all digestive trouble, even when stressed. I hated when they said it was stress. I was just like, if my system cannot handle me going to work every day, then I am in trouble. IBS is a load... -
ARCHIVED Am I Alone
julie5914 replied to Danijela's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have been gluten free 3 months and still have the anxiety, low self-esteem, and often fear of silly things. I am espcially pushy and anxious about test results. That is a GOOD thing though - be proactive in your health care. Otherwise you will never find out and resolve what is going on. Wish I could tell you it goes away fast (and maybe I am not being... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Celiac/uc Help!
julie5914 replied to Maureen73's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Celtichands - have you had an ANA test done or further tests for lupus and it's related diseases. Your joint pain is what concerns me here. Lupus is associated with the same gene as celiac. I hope you get results back soon. If they are negative, don't give up - look up your symptoms and keep going back to ask for the specific tests. It's your body. I have... -
ARCHIVED So Overwhelmed
julie5914 replied to amers310's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Did you doc explain what he meant by rebounding? I have a feeling my numbers will still be high or higher when I retest too. My digestive symptoms are gone because I have stuck to the diet, but all the other stuff is coming out like crazy. Do you have any symptoms that are sticking around? That is weird - definitely notch up your strictness even more... -
ARCHIVED Recovery "potion"

I just started taking acidolphilus and have been horrible at taking it 30 min before a day, so I end up only getting it maybe once a day. Where do you buy l-glutamate and enzymes?
