ARCHIVED Can't Eat Dairy Until I'm Healed
julie5914 replied to carriecraig's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mine was actually hesitant to cut out a whole other food group because of malabsorption issues. But, as my symptoms continued, I decided to go off of it anyway and am now glad I did. I am not sure if it is lactose or casein, but I am not very willing to test it, at least not yet. -
ARCHIVED Peptidase Supplementation
julie5914 replied to LauraZ's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Is this the same thing as Pepcid AC? My doctor just recommended it for when I go out to eat to block antibody reactions to strange or new foods. -
I was on zelnorm pre-diganosis because of bad constipation. I liked it because it helped me go, esp. when traveling, which was always more difficult for some reason. I don't remember it making stools softer though, and things weren't worse when I went off it, they just went back to the same. They were kind of like my last resort. My advice for making...

I wake up with a feeling several times a month where it feels like my muscles and tendons are made of glue or setting concrete. This has been for the past year and continues, though I went gluten free in June and dairy free the end of october. I had a low pos. ANA test (1:160) back in the Summer that I asked my doc to recheck and will be hearing back soon...

ARCHIVED Am I Being Ripped Off? Please Advise.
julie5914 replied to julie5914's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
She's not an MD, she's a DO, and I've actually sung her praises on this board before. I suppose she is a bit naturopath, although she will prescribe some things. She doesn't want to prescribe anitbiotics and hates the pill - wants to do things naturally as much as possible. I think I like that about her, but I suppose natural stuff is harder to get in traditional... -
ARCHIVED Am I Being Ripped Off? Please Advise.
julie5914 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hey guys, I respect my doctor a lot and like that she doesn't quit until you are better, but I am little suspicious about some things. I wanted to get your advice and see if you had heard of any of these companies, people or things. I have been gluten-free 6 months and CF 2 months. I went in yesterday to tell her how much better I felt since going CF... -
ARCHIVED My Symptoms... Please Help
julie5914 replied to romeo77's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, if you are sure that you haven't gotten gluten and you are sure it isn't lactose or casein, it could be one of the following: a stomach bug of some kind (not celiac related), parasites, yeast, bacterial overgrowth, another food allergy (soy, eggs, corn, nightshades). If you have the money, it might be worth it to order a stool test... -
ARCHIVED A Little Help Please.
julie5914 replied to brian72's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's so funny. I think a lot of people on here play better doctors than real ones. Coke has been my fail-safe, my dessert, since going gluten and dairy free, but the acid is starting to bother my mouth and belly. Enjoy it while you can, in moderation of course. Watch out for root beer, cream soda, and no real beer of course. Smoking doesn't... -
ARCHIVED Lab Results
julie5914 replied to DragonQueen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I went dairy-free two months ago and haven't felt better in a very long time. It is hard, esp. going out to eat and at other people's house because they don't think about butter. And it can be hard to find a dressing that isn't boring Italian, but Annies makes a sesame ginger one that I LOVE. One of my newest learned things is that Amy's makes frozen dinners... -
ARCHIVED Help!
julie5914 replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Actually, that thing with your arm esp. sounds like nightshades. It doesn't sound like you've been glutened. Maybe the nitrates in the ham bothered you, but it was more likely the potatoes. Google nightshade intolerance and see if that sounds like you. -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Tired Of Being Freezing?
julie5914 replied to jessika393's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have the same thing, wake up hot as heck, freezing the rest of the day, coldest at night. It's like I can't produce my own heat. People always say put on more clothes, but that only works if you assume your body produces heat, which mine doesn't! I need an outside source, like an electric blanket (heaters are nice but when they turn off I get even colder... -
My doc will be doing antibody testing because she says there will be no antibodies produced if there is no gluten to react to. And the tTG will show if damage is still being done. That's why we have to be on gluten for several weeks before a diagnosis blood test, right? It's true that it won't show if you are healing, but it will show that you're not having...

ARCHIVED Muscle Soreness
julie5914 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hey guys, tell me if any of you have the same problem: Last week we went to NYC, which means a lot of walking. My husband, who is a little overweight (I love him just the way he is - just making a health statement) and has never seen the inside of a gym is dragging me all over and not getting tired or sore. I, who have worked out most of my adult life... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Bad Headaches?
julie5914 replied to julie5914's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I should update this - The headaches have gotten better, though I still get them. I cut out dairy almost 2 months ago. I had a medical massage a few weeks ago, and when she pressed on some trigger points to relax my shoulder and neck muscles (which are chronically tight, the tightest she'd ever felt, she said, and often feel like bone), it reproduced the... -
I was still having a lot of trouble, so I was retested at 3 months and will be tested again (I hope) next week at 6 months. I really hope the numbers are down this time since I feel better after nixing dairy. Then I will go to doing a yearly check-in on it. I never had endoscopy - I wouldn't do that at 6 months after because of cost and trouble - the blood...

ARCHIVED How Did You Acquire Celiac?
julie5914 replied to tasha's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't remember having too much trouble as a kid, though I do remember having strange and sometimes detrimental eating habits as an adolescent. I was also always shy and withdrawn, but I think a lot of that was just how I was brought up. I had mono at 19, a hemorrhagic cyst at 20, and impaction shortly at 20. I am not sure which triggered, but things... -
ARCHIVED Front Page Of Wall Street Journal
julie5914 replied to 4getgluten's topic in Publications & Publicity
I am so happy that this made the front page! I haven't been able to look at the second article if anyone can share it... I was interviewed as well - he did a great job on the story. My mom has diabetes type 1, and my doctor thinks I got celiac from her because of the autoimmune relation, even though she does not have celiac. I am a little nervous that... -
ARCHIVED Hip Pain?
julie5914 replied to princessfuzzball's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have terrible pain in my hips and outside of my legs, connecting to my glutes and lower back. My doctor says gluten will "attack" here, or other words that it does make those muscles sore. Mine will pop when I'm biking, probably because of muscle instability. They do not pop when I'm walking. This past weekend I was in NYC, walking a lot with some running... -
ARCHIVED Headaches And Dizzy
julie5914 replied to Noelle126's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What's your blood pressure? Do you have muscle soreness? I have frequent migraines -- I thought they were because of gluten/casein, but I jsut had a medical massage today. She used trigger poiint therapy and worked on some very tight muscles in my neck and shoulders. On the same point of each side when she would push it would reproduce the headache pain almost... -
ARCHIVED Loose Bms And Gas After 5+ Months gluten-free?
julie5914 replied to carriecraig's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am still not without the occasional sprint to the bathroom, but I believe it was dairy that was messing with me after I had been months gluten-free and still having trouble. Jury's still out, but I'm 90% sure that was the problem. -
ARCHIVED Question About Probiotics
julie5914 replied to Lisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
And antibiotics can't work against a gluten attack - it is antibodies from your own immune system that are hurting you. Having bacterial overgrowth in your small intestine can happen over time with celiac (and in other people) when you have too much acid or inflammation and there are not enough probiotics there to keep the bad stuff in check. So basically... -
ARCHIVED I've Been To 15-20 Doctors!
julie5914 replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ok, I have lots to say on this one. First of all, I'm so sorry - our health care in the allopathic (traditional) medicine arena is in serious need of reform. Pharmaceuticals and insurance has taken over, and many MDs seem to have forgotten what led them to go to med school to begin with (unless it was $$$, in which case they are right on track I s'pose).... -
ARCHIVED My First Celaic Panel Lab Results
julie5914 replied to Random Guy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I did not have biopsy. Your numbers are all high and all positive - you have it. I ate lots of gluten and felt like crap for a month after getting lab work higher than that while waiting for a GI appointment because I though he would want to do a biopsy. Waste of time. They took one look at the results and put me on the diet that day. I shouldn't have waited... -
ARCHIVED Still Having Diarhea But Gf
julie5914 replied to melisadki's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Dairy seemed to be the key for me when I still having trouble after going gluten-free. I think it was casein and not lactose as I had been tested for lactose a few months ago and it was negative. Rice Dream ice cream isn't bad and vanilla rice milk isn't bad either once you get used to it. If they didn't make it I would have cheated already. Toughest part... -
ARCHIVED So, What's The Worst Complication?
julie5914 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I eat scrambled eggs and drink low acid OJ every morning. Fills me up more than gluten free waffles or cereal ever did. Now that I'm used to doing the eggs, breakfast isn't a problem. I know what you mean, though, I used to skip it after I went gluten-free because I had no idea what to eat!
