ARCHIVED Bloating/gas
julie5914 replied to Hall100's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had the same problem and I think casein is the culprit. I'm only on my second or third week without it, so we'll see. Starchy stuff seems to bother me too, but casein woud tear me up even after being gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Any One From Greenville Sc ?
julie5914 replied to Lois23's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm from Greenville but live in GA now. I still go up there to see my celiac doctor though, who is in Travelers Rest. Our Earth Fare here in GA recently had a celiac talk (which I unfortunately missed) - maybe the one on Pelham has them from time to time and you could meet people there. The employees might also know of local happenings with the celiac community... -
I'm gluten free since June and still have all sorts of problems, so it may just take a while. I am like you though, I hate when they don't explain stuff unless it's a big sign something's already wrong. If a number is out of range and possibly going up, I want to stop it before it goes further. If it were that normal, it wouldn't be out of range, would it...

ARCHIVED Itching And Prickles
julie5914 replied to Karla99's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I feel like there's little bugs biting me at night. Is that what it feels like? I am taking magnesium b/c I was low on it last doc visit. Hoping it stops cause it makes me spazz out. -
I eat fruit, veggies and nuts all day at my desk like a little rodent. I do leftovers sometimes too. You're right though, lunch has always been the hardest. That is why I fell into this routine of just grazing all day on healthy stuff instead of planning meals.

ARCHIVED Casein Intolerance...
julie5914 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I did a breath test for lactose intolerance in April which was negative. Also, my gluten numbers were still so high that it seemed as though I had been intentially eating gluten to my doctor. I think that my body is reacting to casein as though it is gluten because the proteins are so similar. Thus, antibodies to gluten are being produced, which causes the... -
ARCHIVED Endomysial Test (ema)
julie5914 replied to Claire's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Rachel, yeah, I hate that they charge so much. Ask them to fax the records to you locally though or to a doctor that you know will not charge and you may be able to get around it. -
Here's some info I found online. I don't believe that number is something to worry about. It is more something to worry about when it goes above 1,000. It could be a flag that something is going on, but that something is most likely celiac. Too many platelets is called thrombocytosis. When it is caused by something else, it's secondary, or reactive...

Sorry to ruin your statistics here, but I have ridculously high arches. So high it's hard to find shoes with uppers that will fit it and enough of an arch support to reach my arch.

ARCHIVED Wall Street Journal Gf Article
julie5914 replied to Nevadan's topic in Publications & Publicity
Thanks, George! -
Sounds like you need to get tested whether it will increase your chances of getting pregnant or not. If you have it and go gluten-free, it will increase your chances of staying alive. celiac disease can definitely cause infertility because of malabsorption. Your body isn't going to get pregnant if it doesn't have enough nutrients to support just you, let...

ARCHIVED Comparing Symptoms
julie5914 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sounds like it's time to fire your doctor. Most gastro docs love to do endoscopy. They'll scope you any way they can! If you and your insurance are paying for it, you should be able to get it if you want it and need it, and you sound like you need it. I am not sure why doctors can be so test-phobic sometimes. I mean, if you have someone in front of you... -

ARCHIVED Casein Antibodies
julie5914 replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks to your replies within this post for my own questions - I left out something important in my above post. I had been hestitant to cut out dairy even though it seemed I was reacting to it, but the reason I finally decided to try a few weeks without it was because by gluten blood numbers were still super high. My doc seemed skeptical that I was not outright... -
ARCHIVED Irregular Periods Post Gluten Free Diet
julie5914 replied to de caps's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah, I was gonna say too that it could be low iron and your body is trying to conserve. It more likely the celiac itself and not the gluten free diet that is whacking it up. I'm on the pill, so I don't have the same problem. -
ARCHIVED Smirnoff Ice Original Coolers
julie5914 replied to christa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Some vodka is made from potato and some is made from grain. Distilled or not, the kind made from grain tore me up the last time I drank it mistakenly. Now I just stay completely away from vokda and whiskey unless the vokda clearly says it's from potato. I stick with wine, rum, or tequila (margaritas!). -
ARCHIVED Who's Doing Blood Type Diet With Gf?
julie5914 replied to GC1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My mom swears by this diet as truth - she is an O. My doctor, an osteopath, also refers to it often. My sister, a biochemist, thinks it's a bunch of hooey. I know a good bit about it, but I don't follow it. I think there may be a connection as to what foods are better with a blood type, but I think it's more likely got to do with the levels of pro-bacteria... -
ARCHIVED My Daughter -21yrs Old
julie5914 replied to Lisa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'd go for endoscopy if your insurance will cover. With that kind of stomach pain, endoscopy may be able to show something else wrong if it isn't celiac. Make sure the main purpose is to check for celiac though of course and that they take mult. samples for biospy. -
ARCHIVED Casein Antibodies
julie5914 replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am so glad to see a discussion on leaky gut. My doc told me on Monday that she thinks I have it. I have no idea what that means though. It doesn't seem to be something that traditional docs accept, so it's not on the reputable Web site I normally visit for information. I am getting more sensitive to more things, and I am cutting out dairy as of this week... -
ARCHIVED So Overwhelmed
julie5914 replied to amers310's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Amy, I now have the same problem as you. My numbers were still high but I am gluten free. My theory is that my body is mistaking casein for gluten and reacting as though is gluten, causing the elevating numbers. Don't know if that's true or not, but for now I'm cutting all dairy to see if it helps. If it makes me feel better I'm sticking with it at least... -
ARCHIVED Capsule Endoscopy?
julie5914 replied to laurelfla's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have not had endoscopy yet, and if I knew insurance wouldn't pay for it, I wouldn't do it unless I was having some pretty severe continuing symptoms and had already tried an elimination diet, allergy and stool testing and other blood tests. I am still symptomatic, but I am closing in on the cause without endoscopy with an elimination diet. If I cut out... -
ARCHIVED Please Help With New Questions Re:lab Work
julie5914 replied to julie5914's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, my originals were done by a different lab, so it's hard to compare. They were: Gliadin IGG 61.2 (normal is <25) Gliadin IGA 106.3 (normal is <25) Endomysl IGA 1:1280 (normal is 1:4 I think, but that is not listed - it just says Positive for my number and expected value is Negative) -
ARCHIVED Please Help With New Questions Re:lab Work
julie5914 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi guys, I am sure I have been gluten free, religiously. I've checked hair and skin products, I clean pots and toasters, etc. I just got my lab results back from a re-check after 3 months gluten free. Here they are: Reticulin IGG <1:10 - normal Reticulin !GA <1:10 - normal Gliadin AGG >100 out of range - normal is <11 Tissue Transglutamin... -
I don't have TI, but my mom does. Please go on the gluten-free diet immediately. It will not make you gain weight if you have gained weight as a result of celiac. You will more likely lose weight. I was bloated and felt like I'd gained b/c of celiac. I dropped 5 pounds when I went gluten free and stopped working out. I'm just letting my body rest and...

ARCHIVED Pigmentation Problems Different Then Vitiligo
julie5914 replied to hipretty's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, this sounds like Addison's - you need adrenal levels checked. Look up Addison's and see if it sounds like you. If it does, it is very important that you get checked soon as people with this can have a life-threatening crisis. They are dependent on steroids once diagnosed.
