ARCHIVED Diagnosis.....
julie5914 replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with the above posters, if your small intestine is damaged, it is most likely gluten as the culprit, early stages. However, I understand your wanting to pursue an actual diagnosis. To answer your question, small intestine bacterial overgrowth can come with celiac I believe, if only because your intestines are out of whack and not in balance enough... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test, Should I Be Concerned?
julie5914 replied to RoseNNJ's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No that doesn't sound like celiac - sounds like kidneys as you said. Blood in urine is not good. Have they called you yet about it? -
ARCHIVED Medic Alert Bracelets
julie5914 replied to penguin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah, I don't think I would get one. I didn't really think about it until I mentioned something about getting my purse on the way to an office lunch. I said - it has my celiac card in it - meaning the one that explains to the waiter what I can't eat. Someone said, you think you'll be in accident just walking a few blocks? I totally didn't even get what... -
Yay, way to go for easy sinking poop! Mine only sinks every now and then and I practically have a party!

Oh wow, I never thought of that. No wonder I still have intermittent problems. My kitchen is not at all gluten free. My husband tries very hard, but he will often bake a glutenous cake in there and have flour everywhere! And I have so much peer pressure all the time to go to places like Schlotsky's or Panera. People are always saying, "well isn't there something...

ARCHIVED Bloodwork Results
julie5914 replied to happy4dolphins's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't know what the ranges were, but the IGA tests look ok or low. Your hematocrit is high though, which is odd for a celiac. Are you taking iron supplements, multivitamins or eating a lot of red meat? YOurs aren't too terribly high, but you may want to look up iron overload info. The ANA is a test for connective tissue/lupus type diseases. Even though... -
ARCHIVED High Fructose Corn Syrup

I believe it's the main ingredient in cola. Doesn't do a body good. -
ARCHIVED Finally An Answer!
julie5914 replied to 4tomorrow's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I believe casein is for life. Some people have temporary trouble with lactose, but if it is casein as yours is, you are stuck. But Vanilla soy milk is pretty good. Regular milk tastes super funny to me now. -
ARCHIVED Followup Endoscopy
julie5914 replied to sillyyak's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm 8 months out. I will probably get my blood retested at 1 year out (had it tested at 6 months and it was still high). If it is still high then, I will consider endoscopy, though it will be my first. I still have symptoms, but I've improved. -
ARCHIVED Vinegar?
julie5914 replied to julie5914's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Now THAT is good know. I have never liked apples - perhaps they are my problem. Strange thing is that like baked apples and applesauce. But usually apple juice makes me feel a little unhappy, and I hate apples raw. Good to know it is not gluten though. As long as there is no damage occuring, I can deal. -
ARCHIVED Thank You And Migraines
julie5914 replied to Faithperson's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi and Welcome - glad you found out what was wrong! My migraines are less and less, and you have half the battle won by knowing that it is both tension and celiac. (or tension caused by celiac - my muscles are so messed up!) I'm 7 months out, and I have to do yoga and get massages sometimes to keep my shoulders and neck from tensing up so much that... -
ARCHIVED Vinegar?
julie5914 replied to julie5914's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gasp - Yes! When I have one too many cherries or blueberries I get stomach cramps and run to the BR. Cherries are the worst though for me. Probably over 5 and I am done for. -
ARCHIVED Rice Dream Mistake :(

Apparently is in the process of making it - they have it on their packaging. -
ARCHIVED Vinegar?
julie5914 replied to julie5914's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah, It could very likely be the acid. I mentioned Rice Dream because I have read that they believe the distilling process gets out the barley, but that it has been found at .002% I think in some samples. So I guess I am skeptical of the idea that the distillation process in any case can actually remove all gluten. -
ARCHIVED Vinegar?
julie5914 replied to julie5914's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
P.S - I know malt vinegar is bad news - I'm talking about when it just says plain 'ol vinegar on the label. -
ARCHIVED What Are Your Thoughts On.....
julie5914 replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I will eat stuff that says gluten free but then says made in a facilty that also.... cause I figure they are doing that to cover their a$$. I'm pretty sensitive though, so I don't know that I should be doing that per se. I know that if I just dropped food on my messy countertop, I would not eat it, because my husband cooks sometimes with flour and eats lots... -
I seem to react to vinegar, almost every time, and strongly. Could this be a gluten reaction? I also seem to react to alchohol made from grain and rice dream milk. Just wondering if is just a sensitivity to vinegar or if I am actually damaging myself.

ARCHIVED Rice Dream Mistake :(
julie5914 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been doing so good, but last night I was starving, and on my way to a meeting I stopped and got some envirkids rice bars and a packet of juice size boxes with what I thought was soy milk. I realized it was rice dream, with .02% barley while I was drinking it. I hoped that .02% wasn't enough and finished it ebcause I was starving. An hour later I had... -

ARCHIVED Do I Have Celiac's?
julie5914 replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If your blood tests came back positive and you are having abdominal pain and any gastro sysmptoms, you can probably assume you have it. You need to be 100% off gluten - not even a crumb. I have had all kinds of symptoms, most of them not what the older doctors call "classic." -
ARCHIVED Whats Going On?!?
julie5914 replied to Moongirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you had your gall bladder checked? Sometimes they can't see it in regular scans - it is kinda hidden. -
ARCHIVED Lactose Intolerant Question
julie5914 replied to ebrbetty's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Flieschman's makes some lactose free margarine that is also casein free. Comes in stick form. It's been my flavor life saver since I went dairy free. I was on the specific carb diet, which is supposed to be low lactose or lactose free. It allows sharp cheddar (I wasn't eating the yogurt). I was reacting strongly to the cheddar. Got markedly better when I... -
ARCHIVED Whats Going On?!?
julie5914 replied to Moongirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My doctor told me a good way to test if you have too much or too little acid is to take a tablespoon or two of lemo juice after you get your symptoms. If they get worse, you have too much acid. Better then too little acid. I had too much acid, despite what I have read about some celiacs having too little. The lemon juice gave me a lot more pain and indigestion... -
ARCHIVED Any Athletes Out There Who Had To Completely Stop Being Active
julie5914 replied to lemonade's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah, it all came to a head and I started looking for a diagnosis of SOMETHING other than IBS after I finished a half marathon. Before that race I worked out 5 days a week. Now I can do yoga one day a week, and that is pushing it. It's a year since the race, 6 months gluten free. I hate it too - I miss working out and feeling strong. I didn't lose weight...
