ARCHIVED What Do You Do At A Wedding?
GFreeMO replied to Ciel121's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep..you are right on track. Eat before hand and stick something safe in your purse..a banana, candy..whatever. The good thing about wedding is that people are either a little tipsy from the drinking or they are dancing and having fun. No one will even notice that you are not eating. -
ARCHIVED Chocolate

By Mainstream I mean at my local Kroger chain and Walmart or Target. Thanks for all of the ideas. My nephew will love this box of stuff. -
Thanks Josh, I've only been at this since January. I was previously gluten free for about a year and a half and then a doc convinced me that it was all IBS. I ate gluten for a few months all along thinking it was only IBS. Went to another doc and had high liver enzymes which led me to the gastro and the official diagnosis. - I guess I just have a lot...

I had been doing so well but unfortunately, something got me. I am going through the GI stuff, joint pain, etc. What lingers is the DH and low grade fevers. I will run one for several weeks after a glutening. Does anyone else get this and is it because of inflammation or just from having an autoimmune disease? I have a friend with lupus and one with...

ARCHIVED Happy Spring, Fellow Gardeners!

I can't eat tomatoes either BUT, I grow them anyway. They are fun to grow and I just give them away. Does anyone know which veggies I can plant in containers? -

Thanks! -
I have ridden the Amtrak several times. I would suggest packing your own lunch. What I saw was mostly sandwiches and pizza and snacky type things. If you are going a very long distance, I think that those trains offer a different type of dining. For a one day trip, I would for sure pack my food.

Other than Hersheys, what other kinds of mainstream chocolate is gluten free? I am making up a shoe box of stuff for a Birthday present and I want to include some chocolates. I have Hershey's kisses in there but I want something else too. Thx

Cold and snowy here too. In fact, it's snowing right this minute. When it does finally warm up, I am going to plant pots of herbs and some tomatoes and some green onions...Not sure what else yet. Flowering plants for sure. -
I had raisins last week and DH is flaring now. I also felt glutened so not sure what got me exactly but whats in raisins that causes DH to flare? Are grapes ok?

I am tired of shelling out money for Cream of Rice cereal when all it really is is ground up rice. I am going to make my own out of plain white rice. I saw on TV where some Mothers make baby cereal that way. Anyway, what is a good brand to buy. I use to like mahatma but they don't carry it in my area. I am oat sensitive so Lundberg is out. Thanks...

Adalaide, what do you use to clean your bathrooms with? I am becoming more and more sensitive to chemicals. -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Food Allergies
GFreeMO replied to durrsakja's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This has happened to me. It makes it hard to figure out if I have been glutened or if it's one of my problem foods b/c the reactions are similar digestive wise. Like Shadow, I can't tolerate tomatoes or any type of tomato sauce. I can have a little ketchup but that is all. I use to drink milk daily and now that gives me major issues and migraines. I... -
ARCHIVED Sailing Along Then....wham!
GFreeMO replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone. It's good to know that I am not the only one that experiences these out of the blue flares. I can be feeling really good with no stomach issues and then a few days later while eating the same things, I get digestive issues. I guess it comes with the territory of having a bowel disease. Prickly, that is great advice. I really need to... -

All that you can really do it wait it out, drink water and hot mint tea. The mint tea helps to get the gas out. I feel the exact same way that you do. I have been eating Hershey's kisses and I think I may have eaten too many and it's the lactose bothering me. Who knows, with celiac sometimes you have no idea. Hope you feel better. -

I don't think it's a bug b/c this happens too often for it to be one. -
I have had several good day where I have felt pretty good lately. I went out hiking and felt strong and good. Then something happened. I didn't add anything new to eat. I've been doing the same thing that I always do as far as food is concerned. I got D and mucus out of nowhere. Sometimes I feel like since celiac is an autoimmune disease, sometimes I...

Shadow, thanks! I know what you mean about heat. I was standing in front of a fireplace over the weekend and the heat from that felt so good on my guts. I will be watching Dancing With The Stars in bed with 2 cats and my heating pad tonight.
-
flowerqueen, thanks. I will check those slippery elm capsules out! I was diagnosed in late Jan.

While healing from this dreadful disease, what if anything helps with the tender and bruised intestinal feeling? That is my biggest complaint right now...just the general soreness like a horse walked on your lower guts.

Unfortunately for some of us super sensitives, certified-gluten free doesn't mean a thing. We react to trace amounts. It has things to do with storage and transport of the grain.

ARCHIVED Texas Best Organic Rice
GFreeMO replied to dilettantesteph's topic in Super Sensitive People
I emailed them over a week ago to ask about transport and storage. They did not email me back. I think I will pass on this company. Thanks for the info Steph. -
I could not agree more. I have found this to be true as well. Rice especially.

For me not at all. Sometimes getting sweaty makes my dh itch more. What you are talking about sounds like the rash that people get from Lupus. That is very light sensitive.
