  1. Yes, you should be concerned. Is she gluten free? If not, it would appear that might need a second look. My son's symptoms always appeared in the evening. I now know that was because the gluten was building all day, breakfast lunch and snacks. By evening he was sick. Watch the pattern. It may warrant getting her tested or doing a gluten free trial if...
  2. Introduce them all to .....Drum Roll here..... Lettuce Wraps! Make a Huge platter of Lettuce...cold cuts...cheese if you must...condiments...chips....drinks....fruit.... Tell them it's light and refreshing fare... and Wa La! Done.... That is what I would do.
  3. From the age of 7 my son exhibited these same symptoms. ADD without hyperactivity. It came on suddenly though and prior to that was a very normal happy healthy child. He was spacey and daydreamy and couldn't focus. He stopped wanting to be touched and hugged. He sort of functioned like a zombie when he was awake and he slept a lot. All the Dr.'s would say...

  5. I tested negative for Lupus 3 times but had terrible sun sensitivity. I thought it would never go away. I am 8 months gluten free and I can now tolerate the sun enough to go from place to place in the car during the day. It was that bad before going gluten free that I couldn't be in the sun for 5 seconds without feeling like I would pass out. So in my case...
  6. Unfortunately DH can test negative on biopsy, but still be DH. There are false negatives with the skin form of Celiac, just as there are with the gastrointestinal biopsy. If it goes away or stops hurting when you don't eat gluten, then that would seem a better indicator than the biopsy. That said, there are people with other kinds of rashes, eczema, psoriasis...
  7. Shellfish is high in iodine and caused my DH to go crazy. I used uniodized salt for about 3 months to heal my DH. Iodine is necessary for health, but the amount we need is very small. If I get glutened accidentally my sores will flare for several weeks, so during that time of healing I don't use iodized salt. I asked the endocrinologist if it was ok to limit...
  8. You COULD eat gluten and I'm sure you would get a reaction that would convince you. But I wouldn't want to do it. I think the way the antibodies work, if you get any gluten at all, your reactions will continue. It is true that people get more sensitive to cross contamination as time goes by because your body is sooooo relieved to be free of gluten that...
  9. You do not have to prove it to anyone but yourself. Your boyfriend has watched you prove it to yourself several times. Now you just have to believe it. He believes it and that is worth a lot. If you get sick when you eat gluten and you are not sick when you don't then that is your diagnosis. You need to eat gluten free. But if you don't, it will keep...
  10. It certainly sounds like gluten intolerance or Celiac. Even if you do not test positive, you should try the strict gluten free diet because it may resolve your symptoms. Abdominal pain and D are very common Celiac/Gluten Intolerant symptoms. Personally, I had UTI's for years and they suddenly disappeared when I went gluten free. I don't understand it, but...
  11. With DH, gluten is a cumulative thing. A good Dr. will know that. Even if your rash doesn't return for a while it eventually will if you keep eating gluten when you have built up enough antibodies. I hate to tell you this, but a lot of people with DH do not test positive with the biopsy. However, unless they are strictly gluten free their rash returns...
  12. "butchering" a vegetarian name!
  13. Yes, it takes every bit of spontaneity out of the first kiss, if you don't want it to be the kiss of death. Arrrgh!
  14. If you really want to know, you might have to keep eating gluten for a while. In theory your antibodies would build and eventually reactivate the rash. You are fortunate to be a fast healer if it is DH. If I get traces of gluten my rash is activated by day 2. It can take 24 to 48 hours to really burn, sting, itch, blister, ooze and peel. But I have...
  15. It's the gluten. You will probably get the same reaction every time you test it. It is hard to believe, but it is true that traces of gluten can cause the same reaction as eating a whole gluten dessert. I feel for you and hope you feel better when it is out of your system. You should go back to gluten free. That was a perfect "gluten challenge" though...
  16. That is a severe glutening reaction. It will continue if you continue to eat gluten. I couldn't figure that out for years, but the delayed reaction, fatigue, brain fog, and weakness were all definitely related to gluten. Every time I get cross contamination or trace gluten...I feel the way you described. You should feel much better without gluten...the...
  17. That is about the time the secondary food intolerances started to show up for me. It seems to be common for other intolerances to surface as soon as gluten is well out of your system. Upper abdominal bloating was common for me... Intolerances can be dairy, soy, other grains, nightshades, fructose, and I'm sure my list is not complete. You can keep a food...
  18. Gluten is definitely out...since I get immediately and violently ill. The other intolerances I have had a hard time accepting and getting rid of. Whenever I do get off of all the top 8 allergens, plus nightshades, fructose and all grains, I feel great! But sustaining that diet is extremely hard and I inevitably give in to "testing" dairy or soy or whatever...
  19. Oooh Rich, Welcome, and thanks for writing your story. I just wanna say that your Heineken might be refreshing anc crisp, but the next day will not be! Don't drink it! I had one last beer too, and I paid dearly for it. Just my two cents.
  20. Yes, the itching is maddening. Ice really helps to calm down the inflammation, but only temporarily. I try to keep my sores covered with bandaids so I don't scratch at night. Iodine is another factor in the flares if you haven't been gluten free for very long. Shellfish, asparagus, any salty food like chips etc...can be iodized. Use uniodized salt for...
  21. I had nausea daily and intermittent vomiting. I was told to eat soda crackers for the nausea. I was poisoning myself. Migraine or should I say...My Grain Headaches followed so I always thought it was the flu. It wasn't. Now I have none of these symptoms except when I get traces of gluten.
  22. I was one of those who had frequent UTI's for years before I went gluten free. I definitely think they are related. I haven't had a single one in 8 months...the exact amount of time I have been gluten free. Before I would have one at least every month...sometimes weekly. I was on antibiotics for years for this. Absolutely miserable. Another pleasant surprise...
  23. Benadryl won't help at all because this is an autoimmune response. I hope you are different than I am, but any accident results in several weeks of flaring DH. DH Celiacs are extremely sensitive to the slightest traces of gluten. Dr. Peter Green says it can take up to 2 years for the rashes to completely resolve because the antibodies are still in your...
  24. My son's asthma resoved on going gluten free. He had it for years. There are several research articles on here recently where they are starting to make the connection between asthma and Celiac. They should come up if you do a search here.
  25. Lupus and Celiac often go together. I have Celiac, my daughter has Lupus so we have been reading about it and suspect they are related. Try gluten free if you can't get them to comply with your requests for testing.
