  1. The rash, if it is related, would be called Dermatitis Herpetiformis, the skin form of Celiac. Does it itch or burn? Is it worse at night? Does it get worse after eating gluten or salty food? The other symptoms you have are also consistent with Celiac. Are you thinking of getting tested? If so, you need to keep eating gluten...if not you can do the...
  2. Yes, I agree with Bartful. Don't buy a lot of things until you know you can tolerate them. I would suggest you find a recipe you want to try and then buy what you need for that recipe and that way you won't be investing in a lot of stuff you don't really like. For example, I hate bean flours. Any mix with bean flour in it got donated or trashed outright regardless...
  3. Yes, that very well could be the reason why you swell up. I do to if I get gluten. Another reason can be vitamin deficiencies, especially vitamins C and D. Vitamin C deficiency causes tissues to swell because it is needed to build collagen and forms the structural foundation of our bodies...the stuff that our tissues and cells are made of. They leak if they...
  4. Malabsorption means you can be dehydrated no matter how much you drink precisely because you are not absorbing. I had this for quite a while when I first went gluten free. I was swollen from water retention but my mouth was dry even though I was drinking. If it is Celiac, it can definitely be malabsorption of fluids. But the longer you are gluten free it...
  5. Be careful of nuts. Often they are run on the same lines as wheat....it was awful for me. I think folks here have said Planters don't make them sick. I haven't tried them. Maybe people will pipe in as to which nuts are ok so you don't have to get sick. I found almonds and cashews with the label processed in a facility that also processes wheat. I won't eat...
  6. Yeah, I agree with you Sage! That IS pretty amazing!
  7. Olive oil on the pan. Or any oil you can have. Wax paper or parchment paper on the counter.
  8. Laura! Yay!!!! I am doing the happy dance for you! Yes you can have cheese if dairy doesn't bother you! I eat it now but in the beginning of being gluten free I had to give up dairy due to nausea. Anyway it was a happy day when I got it back! Depending on how much weight you have to lose, what you are losing now is consistent with Paleo/Primal eating...
  9. That warning is there in part so people with anaphylactic reactions will be made aware and will know NOT to eat it. There is no way it is worth the risk of dying. Do not eat anything with that label. I believe it is voluntary for them to put Made in a facility that also processes wheat, so just because it isn't on the package does not mean that it was not...
  10. Glad it is working for you so fast! It did me too. ya know that muffin top Rosetapper is referring to? I had one since second grade but now I don't since being Paleo...I mean Primal...I mean...eating meat. Here is how to survive with minimal cooking. You know those roasting bags you can buy for roasting turkey? I get those and each week I buy a turkey...
  11. That is a wonderful idea! The pantry on wheels! And...I have that little cart and it is amazing if you are looking for a reveiw. I thought other posters here might agree with your mom...and I "get" the losing convenience factor is somewhat unfair. But it's a fair trade for me and well worth the peace of mind knowing that I am safe. You can try to teach...
  12. that I did not know... ....And to think all this time I have been calling myself "Paleo" when I am really Primal! Well I like the word Paleo better so I'm keeping it. But that was interesting to know.
  13. I agree with you that it could strain relationships to be asking questions after every meal and educating endlessly. You want to be comfortable in your kitchen and you want them to be comfortable in theirs. But you have to be careful. I have thought that if I had to share a kitchen, like say, with my sister and her kids on vacation or something that my tactic...
  14. Yes, it was very fitting that you were poster #100 Kswan and I want to thank you for continuing to ask questions because I have learned a lot. Thank you Bubba's mom for your information on here and especially for your last post because it gives hope on the losing hope thread. I did not know that could happen and it makes me feel good to know you have been...
  15. I love being Paleo/Primal. It's the same thing but different authors, guru's, call it different things. Basically it's meat, good fats, vegetables, nuts, and fruits in that order of importance/priority. When I am strict I feel fabulous and my body works great. I gained muscle rapidly on the Paleo diet. I lost fat rapidly too. About 80 pounds of it just...
  16. Also, if he has the cure why is he selling gluten free crackers on his website?
  17. There is no cure for Celiac or Gluten Intolerance. They are only controlled by eliminating gluten. Don't believe the hype...in my opinion.
  18. Hi Sage, Welcome! Unfortunately all regular oats are contaminated with wheat due to the way they process them, so the only thing safe for Celiacs is Gluten Free Oatmeal. Your friend is getting a lot of gluten eating those products, they are not safe for Celiac/Gluten Intolerance. The rash you get may come and go quickly now, but it could be DH which...
  19. Vitamin D, Vitamin C, B complex and extra B12 make a huge difference for me. I was exhausted all the time when I started this journey two years ago. Now I definitely notice it if I get out of the habit of taking these vitamins. I take others too, but these make a noticeable difference in the exhaustion. I also greatly increased protein intake the second year...
  20. What about increasing healthy fats like olive oil, flax oil and avocado? I did some checking on causes of constipation in vegetarians (from your list I assume you are) and it appears to be a fairly common problem if you don't consume enough of the good fats along with your high fiber diet. It would be an easy thing to try anyway.
  21. Parchment Paper- I just discovered the joys of parchment paper. Those of you who use it regularly where do you buy? Online? Reynold's? Can you baker's hook me up with a good source? It's kind of expensive but maybe it's worth it. Is there a way to buy it online that is more economical? Do you re-use the sheets? I made cookies, but the paper still looks fine...
  22. Oh my! I just found them here in the gluten free mall! check it out!
  23. You just keep educating yourself no matter what they say! I was sick and going to Dr.'s for 7 years until google gifted me with this place. I was too sick to google most of that time. But yes, it is normal to have periods of time where you feel almost normal, or at least not sick. That's why I always thought I was going to get better. The only diagnosis I...
  24. You are very welcome. Anytime.
  25. Oh my gosh! That's not rude at all. This is your thread so you can do what you want with it and reply when you want to! Oh no! I react to products that are processed in a facility that also processes wheat too. I want to tell you that some products say "gluten free" on the front, and on the back it says...processed in a facility that also processes...
