  1. So glad to hear your baby is feeling better and seems to be healing. Yesterday I sent you a PM with the link to Squirming's thread titled Interesting Reading on DH. She posted it here for you today. She kinda gathered all the relevant DH information in one place and it is very helpful to all of us! It takes some reading, but it is worth it!
  2. Yes, it can be overwhelming for sure. You might want to do some reading about DH. I didn't go into the fact that some people do not get healing without limiting iodine. But since Iodine is a necessary nutrient and since you are dealing with a child, you would definitely want to talk to the Dr. about the iodine issue with DH. Iodine tends to keep the antibodies...
  3. I hope he feels better really soon. Thanks for posting...sometimes we forget it isn't always a Celiac reaction! Good thing you kept searching for the answer!
  4. This is ALL news to me! Thank you! I just thought it was iodine that was the problem with salt, but that's only because I have DH. I never realized corn was in salt or anti-caking silicate. I'm not allergic or intolerant that I know of...but I would prefer my salt to be just salt. Thanks for the info!
  5. You're welcome!
  6. I agree with the above advice, but would recommend you trial each ingredient separately so you know if it is the corn, rice, potato, or Xanthan gum giving you problems. Clearly it is something in that mix. It might even be the egg, since it is possible to develop a reaction to foods at any time. Maybe baked goods with egg WERE ok but they are not now? Glad...
  7. Hey Skittles! Click on your name "Skittles" at the top of the page. Then click on "My Profile". Then go to "Edit My Profile" which is a box halfway down on the right side. On the left you will see options to choose from and you want to choose "Change Signature". When you do that, then you can type in any quote you want to use or your symptoms or...
  8. My son had leg aches and pains all the time as a child. At the time, I said, "It's just growing pains." Just like my mom said to me....Dr. said it wasn't serious.... Years later he tested with low iron....Dr. said it wasn't serious.... He suffered from 7 to 16 and when we trialed gluten free. His leg pain and depression are gone and my "fibromyalgia" is...
  9. So sorry you got sick. That was the second level of learning about "gluten free" for me. First it was Dove Chocolate Covered Almonds for me...sick, sick, sick. And I thought Dove was gluten free? Well, it is, but only if it's the plain candies...at least at the time I was reading/eating it. (I no longer do, so please read the label if you are going to eat...
  10. Yes, coconut is very high in salicylates and almonds are too. Check out Open Original Shared Link In case you find yourself reacting to other foods in this category.
  11. Yeah, I get sick after kissing my man after he eats gluten and even after he brushes.... so I said, "Hey man, did you know that we Celiacs have to replace pots and pans that cannot be cleaned sufficiently enough of gluten in order to keep us safe?" ...after giving this some thought.... He decided to be gluten free 99.9 % of the time. A lot of...
  12. The proof is in how sick you get. "To thine own self be true."
  13. No, a Celiac can't eat a gluten meal every now and then. I mean, they could...but they would be causing an auto-immune response and those with overt symptoms would get very sick. Those with silent symptoms may not notice, but even these Celiacs do not consider it safe to eat a gluten meal due to the risk of developing other auto-immune diseases or intestinal...
  14. You might want to wear a mask if you are going to be baking with wheat flour. It is so easily airborne that you can easily breathe it in and make yourself sick by swallowing some of it in the form of airborne particles. If you really think you are Celiac, you might not want to keep baking with wheat flour. Cross contamination is a huge issue anyway, even...
  15. Yes, if your child has DH, then your child definitely has Celiac. You have some evidence in that direction since he healed by going gluten free. However, if you want the biopsy he will have to eat gluten again in order to test positive. Some people do not ever test positive on blood or biopsy and yet they have DH. Your Dr. may know the inaccuracy of testing...
  16. If you ingested gluten from the shampoo or body wash, even a little bit accidentally, then yes, it could cause a reaction. Plus, you might not be over your reaction from the glutening by the pumpkin seeds just a couple of days ago...it can take a while for the reaction to gluten to subside. Having said that, throat swelling and difficulty breathing are signs...
  17. Squirming is quite right. If your mom hasn't had a reaction from sals by now, she probably won't. The salicylate sensitivity does not apply to everyone. I just mention it in case it happens to be part of the equation for some people and they don't know about it. If neither of you have the salicylate reactions then you don't have to worry about it.
  18. Oh, well, I just thought it might work. I use one of those teeny weeny ones that are only good for chopping garlic! Hey! Maybe a mortar and pestle? haha! Let's bring back the old tools! Isn't that what they used before food processors were invented? I guess if all else fails, you know the hammer and ziplock works! Hey! I can use that to flatten some chicken...
  19. What about adding warm water and letting them sit and then food processing them? That's what I did the one time I used them as an egg replacer. I since decided I do not like the gelatinous mess it makes....but soaking them first worked. If your recipe calls for liquid, you could use that liquid. They soak up a lot.
  20. If you share butter and condiments with people who use gluten bread and stick their knife back in the butter or condiment then you are getting gluten. You have to have your own clean butter, peanut butter, jelly, and comdiments. Things like Mayo are commonly used and the knife is stuck back in the jar so there is gluten there. That is probably why you still...
  21. Are you still going to be gluten free? I am not your age, I'm 49, but I wondered if this means you will be eating gluten or if you will be gluten free due to allergy to it?
  22. Open Original Shared Link Check out this site for symptoms of sals sensitivity. My DH goes nuts too if I have too much. No active DH now so I'm testing how much I can have sals in food, but not meds. The NSAIDS made my DH terrible. I don't think this is true for everyone with DH, but it is for some. Ibuprofen is very close to aspirin chemically speaking...
  23. I can help with #5 and #6. #5- Vitamin D3 is a teeny tiny pill separate from the multi-vitamin, but if you are trying to keep him soy free you might need to search a bit. I use Leader brand vitamin D3 because it is soy-free. It is a 1000mg tablet. #6 Carlson Nordic Omega 3- This is fish oil, easily found in any health food store. I also take this...
  24. That is a good point 1956Chill! There are people who are sensitive to chicken itself. I have a sister who cannot eat chicken at all, but she if fine with Turkey too. Thanks for bringing that up.
  25. Elana's Pantry has recipes that are low carb and gluten free. Open Original Shared Link
