  1. The medical system serves itself first...patients last. They knew you likely had Celiac and in my opinion time is of the essence when you need testing for this. But because of their schedules an needing to reap all the money they can, it isn't possible to accomodate the patient and squeeze in your endoscopy so you can KNOW. They tell you to go gluten free...
  2. There is a list of alcohol on the home page I think...gluten free that is.
  3. If it is terrible for you as it is for me, you could ask your Dr. for a low dose of anti-anxiety medication just to get you through that time. If you are not opposed to it. I take .25 mg. just until the gluten anxiety wears off. It is prescribed for just that reason. My Dr. understands it is really bad anxiety, but really temporary so there is no concern...
  4. Naw it's alright...I kinda wanted to know if it was normal too, so I'm glad you wrote your post.
  5. Yup...Sex drive returned!! a little too late. AFTER my husband divorced me for being sick so many years. Where can I find a recovering male Celiac? But in all seriousness, yes the recovery process hits your hormones too....but things will level out eventually. I hope.
  6. It is VERY easy to get CC from a kitchen where gluten eaters are also cooking. You will have to be very careful. I handed cookies to some kids and then ate my safe food and got really sick. Even a speck of flour on your hands can make you sick. If they cook with flour...it can hang in the air for a long time...I read somewhere it is like 24 hours....so if...
  7. They say adults take anywhere from 6 months to 2 years to fully heal from Celiac damage. It sounds like your damage was minimal and your vitamin levels are good. In that case you should heal quickly and I would guess you will be feeling better within the 6 month period and not like those of us who are older and had symptoms for years and years. I think...
  8. I had no idea about the nerve tooth thing and your information is very interesting to me. I have always had good teeth but started to have pain inside my teeth. Then gum swelling and pain but no signs of periodontal disease or cavity. Dentist didn't do anything...said there was nothing to treat. After a year of this nagging nerve pain, my teeth started to...
  9. I am so glad you are OK and you have a friend to stay with. Hopefully you will be OK eating from dishes...they can be washed and are not the problem. Hopefully your food will be safe and you won't have any issues from this. Glad the paramedics knew what Celiac was...maybe the word is getting around. Hope you are all fine well and good tomorrow and that...
  10. Wooden spoons are porous and so are wooden cutting boards so there is no way to get the gluten out of those. Stainless steel pans can be cleaned really well, but teflon that is scratched tend to hold on to gluten and some have found it makes them ill later. Collanders can not be cleaned in all the little holes and they can gluten you too. These are some...
  11. You are right...it is physical AND mental...and you cannot just get over it. I want you to know that I used to not "believe" in food allergies. I didn't. For years I thought all food was fine and those who didn't think so were just wrong and had something else they didn't know what it was. But the truth is...all that time...I was suffering with Celiac and...
  12. I'm sorry you are still feeling badly. Have you thought of secondary food intolerances? There is a running thread on here about Soy being very bad for some people and causing neurological problems and depression. I think before you quit the diet, you should start to cut out other things like dairy, soy, corn, fructose, nightshades. Do something like the Paleo...
  13. There are threads here about the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SBC)which essentially eliminates all grains. I am trying to eliminate all grains but once in a while I eat a bit of rice, lentils, or corn chips. And every single time I do it...I vow to eliminate all grains. I did do it for 5 years once long ago before I ever knew about gluten. I realized after...
  14. That is WONDERFUL to hear!! I'm happy for both of you! My son had the same immediate positive response to going gluten free 6 months ago. It has been a thrill to watch him feel good and not struggle with all the things he used to struggle with. That is wonderful news. About a couple of weeks into it my son decided to cheat on pizza and I let him. He...
  15. I am sorry you are feeling so bad, but I am so pleased with you that you post what you are experiencing. I am wondering the same things and experimenting like you. Yesterday I got weak and used Hazelnut Coffeemate which has a may contain soy statement. Other than that I have successfully aboided soy for a few weeks. After I drank the coffee with coffee...
  16. I got down to just meat and water because I was always sick after I ate....long before I knew about gluten making me sick every time I ate. But having said that, meat and poultry...do they make you sick? They never made me sick...I got tired of eating them but I was never protein deficient then. Do you eat meat and chicken? What is your protein source...
  17. You might want to start a new post for this question if you still need an answer. I don't know what I would do as I have no experience with either kind of Dr.
  18. That is brilliant! It took me 6 weeks to figure out there was no reason I couldn't use gluten free flour for frying chicken. Now I make my chicken strips every week! See! You really aren't crazy...your creativity is already back! Nice work. Can you PM me how you make gravy? Silly question and I can google it too, but do you use broth or milk? and what fat...
  19. As you may or may not know from baking with regular gluten flour...flour has a tendency to absorb moisture and therefore it is hard to say exactly how much flour you would use to replace. BUT having said that, the friends who use those flours in the Tollhouse recipe both mix their batter replacing it 1:1 then test bake just 2 cookie blobs to see how they...
  20. It is a good place to start- The chicken, rice steamed veggies and the dried fruit should be ok as long as it is gluten free, and you are not sensitive to sulfites, and you do not have fructose intolerance. I wouldn't drink the Lactaid or use other dairy products for a while. The intestinal villi tips are where the enzyme is produced that digests milk/dairy...
  21. Welcome! It took me a long time to find this place too, but I am feeling way better now that I am on board with gluten free. I hope you find the same relief and fast! You will be surprised at all the little things that clear up or go away when you are strictly gluten free. Glad you are here and look forward to hearing of your progress.
  22. I get the symptoms of cystitis or urinary tract infection when glutened. When I get a UA done it never shows bacteria but I have the sudden and constant urge to pee. I never connected it to gluten until I went gluten free and was on antibiotics for interstitial cystis for years. No longer need those but I do get that when glutened. I have read of three or...
  23. It might just be that you need time to heal. Be nice to your stomach and only eat cooked vegetables for a while and no salads or raw veggies. Also, I could not handle eggs or very much oil in the beginning. Actually I still can't handle eggs, but they effected me very badly in recovery. The processed in a facility that also processes wheat is too close for...
  24. Restless sleep and bad dreams too.
  25. Yes, that is what mine sometimes looks like. Of course I'm not saying for sure that is what it is and I'm glad you have an appointment, but the sort of looks like bug bites and sort of looks like welts is exactly the presentation I had on my legs. On my face it was rather larger lesions that constantly weep and ooze and never really heal. The edges are raised...
