  1. Food colorings can produce reactions in some people. I used to have a neighbor that would get a really bad rash if it had a certain type of red food dye in it. I don't remember what it was exactly but it was used mostly in candy. You are probably reacting to the dye put into farm raised fish.
  2. Preperation H could double their market share overnight if they advertised that fact. Fast, soothing relief and look years younger all in one application.
  3. When it comes to celiac celiac3270 and Katie run circles around all the "real doctors" out there. One month is not long enough. I felt better right away but that is a relative term. "Better" for me would still be really sick for anyone else. It was a good three months before I really felt like I was on the right track. It was a year before I really felt...
  4. There are many more, much, much worse genetic diseases you could have given them. They will be forced to eat a healthy gluten-free diet. Now why is that a bad thing?

    ARCHIVED Grrrr....

My ex-wife didn't get it either and that is why she is an ex. It just wasn't worth jeapordizing my health by keeping her around.
  6. I used to be obese but not anymore. Once I went gluten-free the weight came off pretty easy. I cannot eat any starchy carbs, refined sugar and must really watch my portions. I also exercise a lot, walking, bicycling and weight lifting.

    ARCHIVED Trouble With Doctors...

They will never wake up because if they are not ordering tests and pushing pills they aren't making any money. A healthy patient is not a paying customer.
  8. I don't think I have any dairy sensitivity issues but if I eat a lot it will get my guts churning. All things in moderation.
  9. I don't see how going to the doctor all of the time is easier than changing your diet. I am still trying to get my dad to go gluten-free but he doesn't seem too interested even with my brother finally jumping on the gluten-free bandwagon and seeing good results. Dietary habits and prejudices are hard to change for most people.
  10. I actually found out when I tried the Atkins diet in January 2004. I did not even know about celiac disease or gluten intolerance and neither did the dozens of doctors I went to either. There is a chapter in the Atkins book and it mentioned wheat as one of the most problematic foods. I started feeling better within a few days but it was a good year before...
  11. My brother has finally started to try a reduced gluten diet and says he feels much better, less fatigue and brain fog, and has lost weight. His wife, who stays healthy and in shape, finally forced him to do it because of how much my health has improved. I still can't get my dad to do it even though he is really overweight and starting to get some serious...
  12. When my boss asked what I did to cause such a drastic improvement in my performance I just explained that I had an undiagnosed medical problem at the time he started. The problem has been identified and taken care of. His said he didn't care what it was and didn't want to know what it was; just make sure I did what I had to do so it wouldn't come back. It...
  13. I had this problem for a while. When I went gluten-free I was only eating whole foods and drinking lots of water. I felt great but after several months started to feel tired again. I read something about the proper amount of sodium your body needs. I was getting very little salt in my diet. I started to add 1/8 teaspoon of iodized sea salt a day to my diet...
  14. After reading these postings I am hoping that we'll all get mutant super powers. Then we can call ourselves the X-men.

    ARCHIVED Salad Bars

Can't say I have ever had a problem with salad bars at all.
  16. Your employer has been willing to work with you so far. Maybe if you worked out a way to rearrange things to greatly reduce your exposure to flour they would go for it. After all you will be less likely to get sick again.
  17. I am also very light sensitive also. I have to wear sunglasses all of the time until it gets completely dark out. The good thing about that is my electric bill is really low because I don't need to turn the lights on as often as others do.
  18. I felt like absolute crap 24/7/365 before going gluten-free. I was overweight, chronic fatigue, brain fog and a lot of the other fun things that go along with celiac disease. Once I figuired out what was wrong, doctors should couldn't figuire it out, I lost the weight, have energy and mental clarity. I noticed an improvement right away but it still took a...
  19. I am very sensitive to electrical fields. This doesn't cause any problems but I can "feel" when a TV gets turned on in another room of the house even when I can't hear it. I can also "feel" where hidden electrical lines are like behind a wall for example. It is probably just a heightened sensitivity to certain frequencies created by electrical fields.
  20. My lips get a prickly, tingling sensation and I start to get a little brain fog. Fortunately I am not super sensitive and I can stop eating before it gets any worse.
  21. Appendectomy at age 25. Still got my tonsils.
  22. The key word here is "control." People like this will jump into your life because they can take control and someone who is ill will usually let them do it. My wife became an ex because I got healthy and she lost control of my life.
  23. If I had the time I could ride a bike 10-15 miles a day no problem. Canoeing and fishing, do you really need anything more than that?
  24. Another thing people in The Great White North don't realize is that in the US a celiac diagnosis means "pre-existing condition." Insurance companies can use your official diagnosis as an excuse to deny you coverage or charge very high premiums. One of the reasons why I won't get an official diagnoses. Try to keep your meals simple. Fruit, veggies, simply...
  25. I have to travel a lot for work and frequently go out for lunch with clients and suppliers. I can honestly say that I have only had a few bad experiences but that was when I was still a gluten-free rookie. I stick with salads mostly or some food that is obviously gluten-free. It just hasn't been as bad as you might think. Try suggesting some places to your...
