    ARCHIVED Sleep Problems

I used to have a hell of a time getting proper sleep. Now that I have been gluten-free it has improved. Also if I don't exercise regularly I don't sleep very well. I have been taking some melatonin at night and that seems to help also.
  2. I used to think of miself as sick and handicapped because of the chronic fatigue and brain fog. Now most people can't keep up with me. It is hard for most people to think of me as sick when they see how much weight I lost and how healthy I am today. The ones who don't get it are losers and have no place in my life.
  3. My situation is just the opposite. I, the male, am the one with celiac disease. My ex liked my being sick all the time because it gave her a sense of superiority over me. However once I found the source of my illness my health and life changed drastically for the better. What she could not handle was the fact that I got better. That was not in her plans at...
  4. Been there, done that. It takes time to get the hang of it and I'm still working on it too but I am seeing improvements.
  5. Exercise is a big help. It was real hard for me to get going with it in the beginning but I now experience fatigue if I don't exercise.
  6. I have a massive bumper crop of black raspberries from my back yard to make things even better.
  7. Millet is another one.

    ARCHIVED Sleep

Fatigue and brain fog happen when I eat gluten, I have trouble getting to sleep at night and have started taking melatonin and it really helps. I don't take it everyday and only use it when I have a lot to do the next day or am really having trouble getting to sleep. Haven't noticed any ill effects and it doesn't make me have a drugged kind of sleep either...
  9. Buckwheat and flaxseed are my favorites. You can get it at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. They taste good and are much more nutritious than any of the other whole grain poisons out there.
  10. I had some withdrawal symptoms but they did go away.

    ARCHIVED Success Story

Way to go! One thing I noticed when I lost weight is I would go through plateus where I didn't lose any weight but my body shape would change during that time. Slow and steady is the best way especially when you are really overweight. Keep at it, I've been there. Still have some love handles that have a death grip on my waist but that's better than a big...

    ARCHIVED Grrrr....

Gluten isn't really good for non-Celiacs either so were that Gluten Sucks! shirt with pride.
  14. Although I am a weight gainer and not a weight loser lifting weights has really helped me stay in shape. I also do a lot of walking and bicycling. It takes a good 6-8 weeks to start seeing results but stick with you will be glad you did.
  15. I pretty much had all of the symptoms you have described. Well all except the "female problems" because that's not biologically possible. I am convinced my dad and brother are also gluten intolerant. I went to dozens of doctors and got dozens of prescriptions and not one of them ever suggested a food intolerance. That was something I had to figuire out...

    ARCHIVED Favorite Sports

My son is into martial arts (To-Shin-Do) and will have his black belt in about 18 months. He just might be the youngest one to get one too so I am biased about that. Outside of that I don't have any interest in professional or team type sports.
  17. Try eating buckwheat and flaxseed meal. They taste good and have lots of protien and fiber. Those two keep things moving along. I lost most of my weight pretty quickly but I still have some love handles that aren't going to go without a fight. That last 5-10 pounds still has a death grip on my waist. I once read that when the body is in distress it will...
  18. I have never been tested but there is no doubt that gluten was the source of my ill health for 36 years. If I had known about testing prior to my learning about Celiac I would have done it. The problem is that there is no way in hell I am going to eat gluten for three months just to verify what I already know. There are some people in my life who constantly...

    ARCHIVED Awareness

I am very blunt and upfront about it and tell people what I can and cannot eat and I don't care if they want to hear it or not. I am not shy and everyone does have a right to my opinion!
  20. Welcome and that quote sounds familiar.
  21. Can't say I've ever had a problem with either one.
  22. Wheat became a common staple food because it can be stored for very long periods of time. It used to be used primarily when other foods were not available. It became a big part of European and later North American diets because it can be grown cheaply and in large quantities. Because gluten is what makes wheat flour stick together it can be manipulated in...
  23. I have never had a reaction from Mike's Lemonade or Cranberry or beer for that matter. I have given those up anyway just in case.
  24. I think we're all being dorks on this one To get rid of slugs leave a shallow pan filled with beer out. They will be attracted by the beer and drown in it.

    ARCHIVED Grrrr....

Speaking of things people shouldn't say. I experienced a great revenge situation. On Friday someone brought in a truckload of donuts and one of my coworkers said "HaHa, you can't have one." This is a coworker that I have never gotten along with. I then noticed his protruding gut and his wife who also works there was standing next to him. I lifted up the front...
