  1. My kids like to try my gluten free cookies and waffles. Mostly I say no and don't feel to bad about although I do share sometimes. Most of the time they think it tastes strange and don't like it anyway but sometimes they really like it. I just started baking my own items from stratch and don't mind sharing those, so far they are even better than store bought...
  2. Didn't lose a pound! But I was a bit overweight before and still am although weight watchers is now helping with that.
  3. I took a bunch to work because I had NO self control on these and no one would have known they were gluten free if I hadn't told them. Ok, I tried to add the link but it got all wonky and when I check it it said "company name removed because they spammed the forum"? sorry.
  4. Pretty sure it's the same people but different book. This one is all cupcakes and has a cupcake on the cover. Is it ok to post a link?
  5. I bought this book on Saturday and finally had time (and ingredients) to make a batch of cupcakes. I am in heaven, I just made the snickerdoodle cupcakes and used store bought vanilla icing. The texture and flavor are wonderful! I don't feel like I am eating a gluten free cupcake. I really like this book because it not only has cupcake recipes but also...
  6. Thank you everyone for your replies. I know what you mean but long term I can't afford to stay here. Plus my family is wonderful and I want my kids to grow up closer to their family. I love Oklahoma and am going to stay with my parents for a year and then find a place close to them out in the country. My kids have lots of cousins and other family they...
  7. Bubbas mom I wondered the same thing and after confirming it for myself the hard way i can say Yes, you do have to watch for contamination. However, I don't worry about handling the dog food or if there is gluten in my shampoo. But I do have my own toaster, peanut butter jar etc...and I wash everything in the dishwasher. The contamination adds up. Best...
  8. I feel your pain and feel free to vent away. I work in a hospital too (office job though) and have seen the junk food people bring to work. I have finally come to the realization after 6 months of eating gluten-free that I am going to have to bring my lunch and my own snacks every single day to work. I was trying to find things in the hospital cafeteria...
  9. I haven't posted in a while but since having found out in January that I have Celiac I have been coping ok. But last month while on a field trip with my daughters 5th grade class (2 days before school let out for the summer) my husband passed away, he was only 44 and had retired from the Coast Guard just last year after 20 years. (we had been married...
  10. Amen and well said zus888. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, it was hard for me to come to terms with too but it but it does get easier. And it could be a lot worse. I know that sucks to hear people saying that (I was kind of angry first time someone told me that). Sounds like you have a little bit of time to eat your favorite foods, say goodbye...
  11. Are you saying you ate gluten and then got abdominal pain? Or you have been off gluten and having pain? I get terrible pain (along with gas, bloating, many trips to bathroom), but it was the pain that finally made me go to the doc. I thought it was my gallbladder actually.
  12. 5' 6 and a 1/2. Just recently diagnosed at age 42.
  13. Pain is really the only reason I gave in and went to my doc finally. What a bunch of baloney from him.
  14. Welcome and I am so sorry to hear about your health problems. It sounds like your doc is on top of things though. I know it really stinks right now while you are getting used to it but the good news is that at least with Celiac you can fix it with diet. (not trying to make that sound sooooo easy but it's not so bad either) You can do two more weeks...
  15. Gluten free pasta (sam mills corn pasta) with Prego pasta sauce and cut up italian sausge in it. Peas even the kids ate it and liked it.
  16. Oh, did you mean they wouldn't see any new patients? I misunderstood.
  17. What? Why would an endo doc have any say on that? Plus like ignoring it would mean you didn't have it? Knock on wood, I have been very greatful for the docs I have seen. I go to the Third Medical Group on Elmendorf Airforce base. Now it wasn't the fastest, I had to wait to 6 or 7 weeks to get my endoscopy, but both my reg. doc and my GI doc were great...
  18. Sorry no clue but would love to hear if other have a remedy. I am not aware of any other food allergies except to gluten. I had bloating and bloated face symptoms too. I didn't realize it at the time, I just thought I was aging. But looking at photos just 2 years ago, I though I had aged a lot. I must look better now because I went to a boy scout function...
  19. So far I haven't lost any weight either before or after diagnosis. (But I have felt a whole lot better since going gluten-free!) There is plenty of stuff to eat, it's just figuring it out and planning. : ) And when I crave certain foods I can usually find the gluten-free version. My blook word was positive. My GI doc was willing to diagnos me even if...
  20. I am betting they are fried in the same oil as something that has gluten in it...I never ate there before I was diagnosed though so don't know what else is on menu.
  21. They sprayed my throat after I went to sleep I guess, I know they didn't do it before hand.
  22. Welcome, I am day on 8 myself. Just had my positive endo last week. I have the same questions as you. My GI doc told me to talk to my kids pediatricians about if he thinks they should be tested. Figuring out what to eat is getting easier but right now we are mostly eating different things. Except for pasta, we found one my kids can't tell the difference...
  23. Hi there, I don't have much to share but was curious... When you had your endoscopy did they take biopsies?
  24. I had GI symptoms for about 15 months or so before I finally went to the doctor. I had one bad summer and then I felt better (mostly) for a while. Then this fall I finally had a stabbing pain in my side that I was sure was my gallbladder. I finally went to the doctor. Once I finally went to the doctor I was diagnosed fairly quickly. Thankfully he ruled...
  25. Hello, it sounds like you have a great doctor! : ) I had my endo just last week and I was totally out, I remember nothing. When I woke up I felt so good I thought maybe they had forgot the endo (I also had a colonoscopy). For some reason I thought my throat would hurt but nothing hurt. -not even later. It was like I had the best nap of my life. No hungover...
