  1. With just a little bit of guidance (focusing on the perishables departments: Seafood, produce, dairy, meat, etc.) I think more and more Celiacs would find that a gluten free diet is just as economical as any other diet. Their favorite stores have thousands of gluten free items that have been inherently gluten free for thousands of years.
  2. I would like to see the weekly diet log of those who ate gluten free, didn't lose weight, and their respective exercise activity. Unfortunately, I think it's relatively safe to assume that their food diaries would have a number of gluten free items that MOST definitely will not lead to weight loss: gluten-free Cookies, gluten-free Cakes, gluten-free Brownies...
  3. With the exception of your honey at breakfast, I'm not seeing any forms of all natural sugars. If you snack just a few times on the following it will elevate your blood sugar throughout the day and you won't have those "lows" and doldrums: - Apple with almond butter - Mango chunks (buy them frozen and let thaw) - Smoothies with berries (strawberry,...
  4. Less processed is, indeed, the best way to lose weight. If you start shopping the golden horseshoe (the parameter of the store) you'll most likely succeed. Extra visits to produce, seafood, lean meats, low fat dairy, and you're on your way to shedding pounds. Make sure you read the ingredient statements on EVERYTHING that you buy. If you can't pronounce...
  5. GOOD, GOOD point! I used to be the Director of Marketing at one of the largest organic vegetarian companies in the United States. We had dozens of consumers just like you who ate our wholesome meat-free & organic items. Yet, they gained weight. Get tested for both, but also have them run a full blood analysis on you.
  6. Hi Jenni, Out of curiosity, where are your protein sources coming from? And, how often to you consume protein per day. Let's start there and then I can help you some more.
  7. UPDATE: For the first time in my life, I went to an acupuncturist this morning for the pain. Literally, 80% of the pain is gone after just one 90 minutes session. I have a follow up session on Monday. If you have ANY type of pain, you really should consider acupuncture as an option. I'm a believer.
  8. Smart way to look at it. And, I know we learned this very early in school... but the more fresh produce the better. I know you're going to think that I'm fabricating this, but veggies and fruit taste better after I was diagnosed. I eat it throughout the day.
  9. I have learned SO much from this past gluten-ing experience. (As has my doctor, physical therapist, and massage therapist.) All of this joint, nerve, and muscle pain can be directly related to gluten. And the more I look back at history, I remember sciatic pain just shortly after being glutened. At least the above professionals, will be able to make...
  10. I will admit, I wondered if I made a mistake 14 years ago when I looked in the review mirror at the charity where I gave away my only TV as I was driving away. 14 years later and sitcom comments like this, make me feel good about that decision.
  11. I had my first physical therapy session in my life this morning. My therapist was remarkable and her mother-in-law was a Celiac as well. The stories that she told of other Celiacs making a visit right after a gluten encounter! Just when I thought I saw the last of the side effects related to gluten, another issue rears its ugly head. If you have the...
  12. Physically, I feel terrible right now. But, I feel GOOD knowing that there was a direct correlation between being glutened and the muscle pain. And talk about a double whammy... trying to go to the bathroom with a leg that doesn't work. It isn't pretty. LOL.
  13. UPDATE: Thank goodness for my health insurance, as I have already been referred to a physical therapist at 9a.m. tomorrow. I told her about my "theory" and she substantiated it... even elaborated about how we Celiacs get so much more inflamed when we are glutened. Just one more thing we Celiacs have to look forward to when we get glutened.
  14. Last week, I bought a "gluten-free" chicken sausage out of a full service meatcase. The next day, I was glutened beyond belief! Low and behold, I dug through the garbage and found the parchment paper wrapper... and there were bread crumbs in it. Shortly thereafter, I got Sciatic Nerve pain from my glute all the way down to my toe. It progressively got...
  15. Excellent advice about lean meats/proteins and healthy fats. Don't forget to fuel your furnace before bed with a lean protein snack as well (0% Greek yogurt, hard boiled egg)
  16. Until the New Year's Resolution season (targeting new members at the end of December), health clubs right now are in VERY dry spells. They will be advertising free weeks, free classes, initiation fees waved, etc. Why not take advantage of their promotions and experiment with a bunch of different cardio activities and new equipment? Start looking in your...
  17. I read your first post and then re-read it. Unless I missed something, are you eating and ample amount of fresh fruits and vegetables? That quite possibly could be the culprit as well. For those of us who have been diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I don't really look at it as a "problem". Rather, I see it as an opportunity to re-think how your build your...
  18. I will let my friend know. We'll hit Target later this week. I heard that the pea protein was horrible as well.
  19. Luckily, I only have a problem with gluten. But, my eye doctor (recently diagnosed as gluten intolerant) is also lactose intolerant. Any lactose AND gluten intolerants who can give me a recommendation to pass on?
  20. That's why I ALWAYS have this page open in its own window on my computer. Strength lies in numbers!
  21. Can I add some more fuel to the fire about this misconception about it being a "fad" that I observed recently? First of all, a compliment. Last night was "Gluten Awareness Night" at Coors Field. Kudos to Aramark for having a kiosk that sold nothing but Gluten Free foods (Burgers, Cookies, beers, etc.). They clearly marked the kiosk and it made it very...
  22. Now is the time to add some goals and give yourself a well "kneaded" reward. Set "X" amount of days in which you intend to exercise, if you hit that minimum amount of days schedule a 60 minute massage. If you exceed your goal make it a 90 minute massage. If you "blow it out of the water" and absolutely exceed expectations.... add hot stones. You deserve...
  23. Both Sam's Club and Costco have pre-cooked (heat & eat) Italian Chicken sausages. They need just a quick steam/sear in a pan and you are ready to roll. Almost all of them only have about 6-7 grams of fat as well. Packed with protein. And all you need is a plastic fork and knife. The other thing I do while shopping the clubs, is buying a pack of...
