ARCHIVED Carnival Cruise Bends Over Backwards For Celiacs
GlutenGladi8or posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I've sailed with Carnival plenty of times since graduating from college, but this was my first time as a fully diagnosed Celiac. All I can say is WOW!!! I met with the ma -
I have been an attendee and exhibitor at the nation's largest organic trade show for nearly 20 years. I don't remember the presentation, but there have been several presenters over the years who recommend a preservative free diet to combat belly fat. You gave us a sample of what you eat, but there could be some preservatives in the ingredient statement...

ARCHIVED Lost Weight At First And Now Have Gained Even More

Keep in mind that the sugar in ice cream and the sugar in cornbread can take your blood sugar onto an absolute roller coaster ride. On your high point, you are full of energy when that sugar kicks in. But, you feel in the dumps when the roller coaster goes to the much lower point on the track. Try to eat more "whole" foods throughout the day and preferably... -
ARCHIVED Long Distance Backpacking--Any Celiacs Going Long Miles?
GlutenGladi8or replied to Rebecca Mezoff's topic in Sports and Fitness
Two quick suggestions and I'll add more later when I have time. Costco carries a item called "Nonpareil Hash Browns". They are dehydrated and are sold in mini milk cartons. You add water and they reconstitute quickly and then you put the into a skillet. Secondly, Amazon sells several dried black bean packages. Again, just add water and they reconstitute... -
ARCHIVED High Altitude Baking
GlutenGladi8or replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Have your son check out the Boulder Farmer's market every Saturday. There has to be at least 6 gluten free bakeries that have absolutely mastered the art of high altitude baking. I'm not discouraging him from baking on his own, but the market is also LOADED with single females. See? Two birds with one stone! -
ARCHIVED Weight Watchers
GlutenGladi8or replied to Greentealady's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My eye doctor, who lives only 50 yards away from me, is in the EXACT same boat as you. She's already on week two of living gluten free and she's mad at herself. She wishes she would have done it years ago! -
ARCHIVED Weight Watchers

To use an old quote from the late Robert Mondavi.... (and I am paraphrasing). "Do you know what's the best wine out there? The one that YOU like". And it sounds like there are plenty of people who like Weight Watchers. You might as well give it a try or stay on it -- especially if it's providing real results. -
ARCHIVED Questions About Starting Workouts Again
GlutenGladi8or replied to Greenling's topic in Sports and Fitness
It sure does. And the more that you stretch, the more you will amaze yourself. Keep with your current stretching plan for the next few weeks. After that, go online and discover new ones. In weight lifting, you always want to switch up your weights/machines/work-outs. The same goes for stretching muscles, try new and different stretches as well. -

If you've read my other posts, I'm typically pretty critical of diet. And, I'm especially harsh when I see a severe lack of protein. However, you diet seems pretty spot on for your demographics. It's well rounded with produce AND animal protein. At this point in time (and I AM aware of the fact that you don't have all of the resources of a doctor),... -

Ahhh another Celiac Carnivore. My evening is made. Well, after I fire up the Weber grill for lean meats. -
ARCHIVED Teen Weight Gain Technique/product?
GlutenGladi8or replied to Karmann's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
He absolutely does! And the equation for success is fairly simple. 1) Whole Foods that are inherently high in protein should accompany every meal. Low fat chicken sausages at breakfast, egg white omelets, chicken breasts, pork tenderloin, lean beef, etc. Your son's body will get a bigger bang for the buck eating WHOLE Foods instead of protein shakes.... -

Also, don't be shy to budget some time AFTER your work outs to stretch. My good friend is a pilates instructor and she recommended this years ago. I have had zero issues since. -
ARCHIVED Question About Food Labels
GlutenGladi8or replied to speedy2056's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Unfortunately, when a food or beverage item says "strawberry flavoured", the manufacturer can add the berry flavor without ANY actual fruit. Yep, they rely on a medley of man made chemicals to mimic the flavor. Hence, the word "artificial flavors"! If this is the case, your reaction most likely is to a chemical that was made in a lab. Without seeing the... -
ARCHIVED Questions About Starting Workouts Again

Wise idea of easing back into your work out schedule. Way too many people take time off (and that's natural due to crazy schedules and life's curve balls) and then go back to "where they left off". That's never a good idea. Just listen to your body and start the basics from the start. This is also the most important point to spend pre-stretching before... -
ARCHIVED Llicking Envelopes?
GlutenGladi8or replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A very inexpensive solution. Walk, bike, drive, to the Dollar Store. Buy one of those envelope pens that has a sponge at the tip and holds tap water in the hallow chamber. Like this cheap idea? Then mail me a thank you note that you've sealed with that pen. LOL -

Hi Vari: I'm sure that most of us on here have been on the college "shoestring" budget. If you lay out what a typical day of food looks like for you, perhaps a number of us on the board can give a further opinion. I just hope that you're eating enough and what. -
Welcome to our exclusive club (although not a choice for any of us!) Those days are over for me and every week has gotten better and better. Onward and upward!

ARCHIVED Confused Reading Labels
GlutenGladi8or replied to Newbee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Perhaps this is a sneaky way for your doctor to tell you stay away from cola (diet & regular) as they use caramel color to give it that "brown cola" color. Good for him/her! Stick with two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen as your primary beverage (H2O). -
ARCHIVED When You First Went Gluten Free, Did You Lose Weight?
GlutenGladi8or replied to Prezwilson15's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just for the heck of it, you should go to a gym (or somewhere) and see if you can get your body fat tested. I wouldn't be surprise (and your shouldn't either) if you are dramatically decreasing you body fat percentage. -
ARCHIVED Milk Lifting My Mood And Giving Energy...why?
GlutenGladi8or replied to speedy2056's topic in Sports and Fitness
Have you ever bought a bottle of Organic, low fat chocolate milk and added protein powder to it? I don't care what time of the day or night... it propels my mood exponentially. -
It took me about 2 months to get "stable" after being glutened for years. After that, I re-evaluated how I looked at my dinner plate in the past. Once all of the fully gluten items were off the plate, I made room.... and slowly increased my LEAN protein intake at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you want to add muscle, I would suggest that you do the same...

As a quick glance, drop the bacon at breakfast (unwanted fats and nitrates). Opt for the leanest protein that you can. As for the candy (and yes, we all inherently have a sweet tooth) try to get the darkest chocolate that you can. You current candy and bar selections are probably sweetened with High Fructose Corn Syrup. ANOTHER thing to run from like... -

And don't forget the DARK leafy green vegetables as well: Asparagus, spinach, Kale, green beans, broccoli, peas, eggplant, red bell peppers and zucchini. On the food side, make sure that you get your good fats as well: Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Avocados, etc. Finally, you should be taking a triple distilled fish oil several times per day. There is tons... -

If this personal trainer is suggesting that you eat like this, then you need a NEW personal trainer. But, it sounds like you have already nipped that in the butt. Give me an example of what your typical day of food looks like, and I'll make some very brief suggestions. I already have an idea where the issues may be coming from. The Gluten Gladiator
