  8. Poor kid! I agree testing ASAP is a good idea. I also highly recommend the book Gut and Psychology Syndrome by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride. She has a lot to say about diet and Autism. It sounds like there are not a lot of options for other schools in your area, but in your shoes I'd seriously question whether that school was right for my child. My (radical - I'm a homeschooler, remember) opinion is that the numbers a school puts up for tests scores or reputation or whatever matter...

  11. In general it's usually gluten-free but FULL of corn syrup. We make our own. I'd call the number listed on the bottle and ask my questions rather than guessing!

I really wish we had proper test results, but even just a tiny amount of gluten makes him feel so awful for days that I just can't see doing the testing now.   14. I've been really wanting sharp cheeses. Maybe blue cheese, or asiago. I'd also love a cup of good coffee with heavy whipped cream in it. However, coffee is out of the picture, too. I can usually ditch the cheese cravings by getting some strong, salty, savory flavors going. Avacados with pork drippings, anyone?
  15. Yup. Corn is really hard to avoid. It's not one of the "top 8" allergens so it is not required to be disclosed in labeling laws. The only way to find out is to call the company and ask a bunch of prying questions about their processing facilities and ingredient sourcing.

  24. I didn't just go gluten-free - we did GAPS. I lost 20 lbs almost immediately, then stabilized. I was around 145 at 5'6 and went down to about 125. I was concerned because if I got any smaller I'd be too thin, but it seems my body was just finding a new normal. This is actually the size I was before I had kids (about 13 years ago!)
  25. Takala, have you thought about corn? We experienced big reactions from arrowroot and buckwheat, too. Many alternative grains are cc'd and I don't think most (even dedicated) gluten-free bakeries take that into account.
