  1. Oh, and the lasagna had ground beef from a pastured cow we split with friends. (1/8th in the freezer)
  2. Thanks for your ideas. I'd be shocked if the butter was contaminated. It was from a new pack and only have one loaf of bread in the house which is specifically for dosing our daughter with gluten pre-testing, and which we are very careful with (she has dedicated honey and peanutbutter jars and utensil and eats it on a paper towel on our dirty dish counter...
  3. My son is showing symptoms we associate with being glutened again. I'm feeling it very mildly, too. We'd like tonknow what you think the cause was. Here is what we ate before it set in: About 9:30 am Scrambled eggs with bell peppers, spinach, and tillamook cheddar cheese Snack Apples About 2 pm (locally sourced yadda yadda) Pork chops stuffed...
  4. Our son is, but when we talked to our dr she said "why would you put him through testing if you know this is what works?" the obvious positive change plus his classic symptoms and abject fear of reintroducing gluten is enough. He has no desire to be so miserable ever again. Sister and I are going to get some testing done.
  5. I agree there is not a good reason to put her back on gluten. If the people in her life are willing to keep her off gluten then go ahead and do it, since you know it works. That's the choice we made for our son. Someday your dd might want more information and a formal dx. I'd let her make that decision when she is old enough to make an informed choice weighing...
  6. don't forget to maintain the high ground. Buttheads usually just end up making themselves look bad, anyway.
  7. Here is another related thread: Open Original Shared Link
  8. Yeah. I wrote this back: domesticactivist Junior Member Registered: 01-10-11 Posted 01-10-11 05:31 PM
  9. Someone on another site brought up how cool it would be to see cross contamination and gluten featured on mythbusters. My kids love the idea and asked me to get everyone I can to submit myths about gluten to mythbusters. I started a thread on their site and I hope folks will post their gluten related myths as well. Here is the thread I started: Open Original...
  10. that sux. And what they said. It'll get easier. You say you're not into cooking... the prepackaged stuff has been problematic. Maybe once a month cooking or big annual canning projects could work for you? That way you could have safe foods stocked up. Or maybe you could make double or triple batches of dishes you like when you do cook and freeze them so...
  11. Before going gluten-free a couple months ago, my 10 yo son was having tummy aches and anxiety at night. That got much better but now the anxiety is back. On top of this, he is getting huge mood swings with no obvious cause. All day today he was bouncing off the walls, almost in perpetual motion, though he did have a good piano lesson. Just now, though, he...
  12. Wow, rosetapper23, Thanks for sharing your story. I'm glad you were able to get a quick diagnosis and treatment! We're now researching polycystic ovarian syndrome as it has a hormonal component and responds to gluten. Some of the description seems to fit her pre-gluten-free, and one of the symptoms is hairiness!
  13. I've been having dream after dream including stress about gluten, but this type of thing happens to me whenever I am focused on something or learning something new. I've immersed myself in reading everything and cleaning everything, etc, so it makes sense to be dreaming about it.
  14. I have been reading and it seems the body does do more work to digest most raw food and that cooking is part of what allowed us to evolve to eat such a varried diet. Other diets claim to heal the gut as well... Have you considered GAPS? It starts out with broth and veggies cooked to a mush, adds raw egg yolks, then slowly introduces other foods and less cooked...
  15. Is there any way you can see another dr who is known to pay more attention to your actual experience than just labs? Could you get the testing done for your kids anyway? Another thought is maybe it'll make sense to just do the diet without tests. My sense is that regardless what the labs say you'd want to try it with your kids.
  16. My (female) partner is not diagnosed with celiac or gluten intolerance (no tests done) but when we started going gluten-free she felt much better and her eczema started healing. It's been about two months and we just cleaned our kitchen out entirely so cc is decreasing, we believe. This week her back has broken out really badly with acne, and the most curious...
  17. Hey... Good news - Last night we talked with the kids' dad and he had read the book I gave him, decided to make his whole house gluten-free, ordered another book, and lent the one I gave him to my mom. He also decided to try eating meat and go more to whole foods, and wants to start our daughter on the gluten-free diet as soon as the tests are done, regardless...
  18. Thanks for your replies. I'm really surprised you all don't know other gluten-free folks! In my town it has reached fad level. The thing is, though, it seems to help so many people. I am in Portland, OR, though, which is kind of an alternate universe compared to the rest of the country.
  19. I think two weeks is too soon to determine if the diet is helping. btw i got those pellet poops and major constipation, too. I attributed it to eating rice flour products. You might try avoiding any processed gluten-free substitute type products for a while if you aren't already, and see if that makes things easier.
  20. They gave good advice but I just wanted to add that I'm thinking of you. It's so hard to see your baby in pain, and it's really stressful to try and try without figuring it out, especially if feeling bad makes her cranky I do think you will be able to discover what's wrong, but it can take time.
  21. Thanks! Although it would be lovely to be able to justify a new oven, we dont have the money, so I suppose it's a good thing cleaning it is fine.
  22. We borrowed a self clean oven to reseason our cast iron, but ours is not self cleaning and it only gets up to 500f. We don't cook gluten in it anymore. Would just cleaning it be ok?
  23. I've seen people talking about bringing their own microwave when traveling... What are the risks associated with using a (clean) microwave that has heated glutenous food before? What about an older oven? Is cleaning it enough or is there something I'm missing? Btw, I'm not talking about shared. We are no longer bringing it in the house at all.
  24. I'd just try the diet and go from there. I'm interested in more info about small children being more likely to have negative results... I'm about to have bloodwork done on my daughter because she doesnt have gi issues but is very small. (4'4" at 11.5 years)
  25. Your child's symptoms sound a lot like my son's. Cutting out gluten eliminated his tummy aches and joint problems (and they come back when he gets glutened), cutting out corn eliminated (after several weeks) his stuffed up head, sinuses, ears and runny nose (also comes back if he gets some). His bahavior, attention, and dyslexia issues are also MUCH better...
