ARCHIVED Interstitial Cystitis And Tourettes
domesticactivist replied to NonHuman's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I know this is old but I'd love to know more about the Tourette's. My 11 year old daughter has it. Yesterday she developed a new motor tic that actually hurts her (usually they are just annoying). We were hoping that the gluten free diet might help with tics. She took this as a sign that it's not working. She just started the gluten free diet about a week... -

ARCHIVED Could The Blood Test Be Wrong?
domesticactivist replied to confused mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think the test is right. The biopsy shows damage that has already occurred. Also, she could have damage in areas that did not get sampled. The fact that your dr said to go gluten-free is a vote of confidence for him. It is important that he listen to you, though. Perhaps she has other intolerances and an elimination diet would help. But first... We... -
ARCHIVED Anxiety Relief From Going Gluten Free?
domesticactivist replied to carecare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Our son's anxiety hasn't gone away yet, but it is now intermittent. We're thinking it may be nightshades rather than gluten that influences his anxiety. We have not tested it yet. -
ARCHIVED What To Expect After Gluten Free Diet
domesticactivist replied to undiagnosedillness's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
For those of you with the rib pain, I hope you will get screened for cancer. I know this sounds weird but I lost a dear friend because her rib pain was misdiagnosed for well over a year. She was seeing a regular dr, physical therapists, pain specialists, etc and had been through breast cancer years before and still they missed it until she switched to kaiser... -
ARCHIVED Friend In Denial
domesticactivist replied to domesticactivist's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks. She does know about gluten-free baking but has spent years perfecting wheat breads. The dad is even worse about food... She'll make a feast from scratch and he'll run to taco bell. Despite health problems, he even still smokes (the wife quit!) I love so many things about them but this is a huge blind spot. I think any kind of change is highly threatening... -
ARCHIVED Totally Corn Free Now
domesticactivist replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My son very obviously needs to be corn free but we're finding it really difficult. Hidden corn is everywhere. Last week he came back from his dad's all reactive from who knows what, and he had the stuffy nose the whole time he was here. Then he went back and it cleared up... until today, when his dad took him out to a restaurant with gluten free options.... -
ARCHIVED Friend In Denial
domesticactivist replied to domesticactivist's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yeah. The thing is she already knows all about it. Maybe it's just going to take a while. I wish their dr would decide the girl needs testing! Our family is one of those who have gone totally gluten-free for one member. Actually, my ex has, too, so that's 2 households for 1 kid. We've got a different set of priorities on some things, I guess. -
ARCHIVED Wife Just Fainted
domesticactivist replied to sandhun's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
How is her blood pressure? Too low? Has she been getting protein regularly? I've always tended to pass out easily - blood sugar spikes and crashes are often the culprit. -
ARCHIVED Friend In Denial
domesticactivist posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have a very close friend who knows all about celiac (her mom has it) and who has health problems and believes it is gluten (she did atkins before and felt her best ever) but still insists on baking bread all the time. She also has a son with ADHD issues who has some weird gi stuff, and a tween daughter who has always had an extreme skin rash all over her... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Used The Myceliacid Kit
domesticactivist replied to jsmjboertlein's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I considered it but decided to go with Kimball since they return more information and the kids' insurance will pay since the tax ID they bill with is Labcorp's. My insurance won't pay so I'm leaning toward enterolab and getting the stool sample tests for myself through them as well (package deal for lower cost) -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Food Too Expensive... Tips For Feeding Family?
domesticactivist replied to GFMomma711's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We spend far less than most people with a mainstream diet, and we eat organic for the most part, but we do extra work to make it happen. We are involved in a buying club where people coordinate farm direct buys of high quality whole foods and host drops at their homes. We also cook from scratch and avoid prepackaged foods. We have a big freezer and freeze... -
ARCHIVED Mythbusters Gluten Submission Campaign
domesticactivist replied to domesticactivist's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It's a long shot but I have seen episodes where they had segments that didn't involve crashes or explosions. The tight jeans come to mind. I imagine they could incinerate stuff for this one. That could be fun. The thread I started has well over 1000 views and three checks for ratings. Which is way more than most threads. That plus a troll test indicate controversy... -
ARCHIVED My Girlfriend Is A Celiac And I Need Help
domesticactivist replied to Tpayne10's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It seems to me that you are doing the right thing by deciding to be gluten free around her for now. I think the support group is a great idea, too. Whether you stay there or not is really up to her and up to what kind of group it is. If it is for Celiacs only then you'll need to leave, but it's more likely that friends and loved ones are welcome. It might... -

ARCHIVED Is It Hard For You To Believe When People React To Different Gluten Levels Than You?
domesticactivist replied to T.H.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think a lot of people don't want to believe smaller amounts could cause reactions because of their own denial. If they admit someone else reacts to a small amount they might have to consider that those small amounts are harming them silently and consider making a change. Or if they were not diagnosed until they were on death's door, they might not want... -
ARCHIVED Fed Up With Trying To Figure This Out!
domesticactivist replied to norahsmommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't have the answers for you but I wanted to tell you that rice flour products (a staple of gluten-free packaged products) constipate me horribly and might be worth avoiding. I'd also get a new dr right away. -
ARCHIVED My Son Has His Frst Post Dx Party Tomorrow. I'm Scared
domesticactivist replied to jsmjboertlein's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was thinking of you and your little guy but didn't get a chance to respond. It sounds like it went really well! I'm happy for you and I'm sure your son will get to enjoy many parties from here on out! -
Hi, I just got through reading the entirety of both of my children's medical charts in preparation for our dr visit this Tuesday. Wow, there was even stuff in there I'd forgotten about. Anyway, I recorded all the heights and weights and plotted them on the growth charts I got from About.com My 10 year old son has historically been (and still is) just...

ARCHIVED Celiac And Vulvodynia And Vaginal Issues
domesticactivist replied to fiore's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't know about what you are going through, but I wanted to chime in that my son experiences sensations like you described in his leg below his surgery site. The main nerve was not severed, but was moved. The surgeon said sometimes it takes months or years, but it does often heal and regain normal levels of sensitivity. Is there a chance you could be experiencing... -

ARCHIVED Glutened. Most Likely Culprit?
domesticactivist replied to domesticactivist's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I doubt it was the oven or pan since it was scrubbed Pyrex and we've been ok with things baked in it before. We've replaced all our potholders and utensils that weren't stainless steel, cleaned out drawers, etc. I think testing the nuts, arrowroot, and spices makes sense but I don't want to subject the kid to that! Maybe I should order those test strips.... -
