  4. Hi Karol, My 14 yr old son has Downs Syndrome and celiac disease. It was only after my husband got diagnosed with celiac disease 2 yrs that I tied in my son's symptoms - and then I realised that people with Downs are more prone to celiac disease (or any auto-immune disease) I'm sorry you are having such a struggle getting your son a diagnosis...

  6. The way I understand it is you do not need to be anaemic (haemogloblobin) to have low a ferritin score. Ferritin is like a back-up store for iron - so if you are not absorbing iron your body takes from the Ferritin store (sounds like a shop! ) Over time if your body consistently needs to take from the Ferritin store to keep iron levels up, - it will...

  11. Welcome to the club Lynda Coeliacs often have a very low iron count as they cannot absorb it through the normal methods (as your intestine is damaged in celiac disease) The quickest way to raise that level is through IV - although it doesn't sound like much fun I agree Coeliacs are also prone to Osteoporosis (as they can't absorb Calcium sufficiently...
  12. Remind me Lisa, have you been checked for UC??? Hope you're feeling a bit more comfortable now.
  13. Although my son with celiac disease is 14 yrs he has Downs Syndrome so he wouldn't 'know' if he ate the wrong food - and I've worried that he too might sneak a snack in. I decided to clear ALL gluten food that he could get to (we are not a gluten-free house either - my 2 other son's are gluten eaters!) I do allow the other boys gluten treats but I...

  15. Carla, I'm having similar concerns about my 17 yr old (well not Lyme concerns) but he's alway's tired ,sore eyes (I thought it was his contact lens maybe?) achey...just lacklustre for a teen. I have attributed some of his symptoms to the pressure of school and studies - but took him to the docs to be on the safe side. He's tested him for celiac disease...
  16. Don't loose hope yet. My hubby had negative blood results to the celiac disease screen but went onto have a positive biopsy. One reason you may end up with negative bloods is a condition called IgA deficiency - in this case biopsy is the only way to dx celiac disease. I assume you are still eating lots of gluten?? Lots of people here have used...

  19. It's getting seriously silly today!! If I may,Richard...a couple of points that are worrying me: Let us not forget the invention is supposed to be worn whilst show/snowboarding.
