The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
No mystery to me, girls. I get it. Those ER trips pre-DX,,,, only to have a normal EKG? Found it is chostochondiritis. And intense connective tissue pain, muscles like wood ...these are my life. And YES, definitely celiac related. The good thing is, it gets less intense with time, massages, PT, stretching, etc, Glad you are all right, Lovey! I suggest warm... -

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

I am sure I told this story of my time on St. John...I was 34....a cabana boy (a gorgeous mocha man) ran up and down the beach all day long (he was tireless) singing "COcktails, COckTails"....I ordered as many as I could without barfin.... just to see him running...those thighs, that back....er. oh... but I digress. Look..... cabana boys bring... -

Hon, we ALL want to help. It's not just an internet "disconnect".... I am glad we chatted privately. I appreciate it very much!! xx I think, somehow, things were misinterpreted. I am not sure how, but it happened. but, saying we all "mean well" suggests...something otherwise. see, it's all in the words. Here's the thing: the OP is not a ... -

The recipe sounded so good--so I printed it out. Local farmer still has so many squashes, I was looking for a different way to spotlight them. That one did NOT work. Bland--and the texture, um, well...not so palatable. ..ah well, maybe it was "lost in translation" To paraphrase Julia "you can't be afraid to make mistakes in the kitchen... -

Last night, I tried a new recipe. Savory Butternut Squash Souffle. It even had bacon in it. I thought it would be delish. What can go wrong with fresh veggies, savory herbs, eggs, bacon? BLECH. Not a keeper. Tonight: Chicken thighs, roasted asparagus, acorn squash -

ARCHIVED Discrimination Against Celiacs?

If you watch the video Adalaide posted, you will see the answers to your questions. Dr. Fasano VALIDATES the fact that celiacs suffer LONG TERM consequences. Watch the video. It explains the circumstances of her "release" from work pretty clearly. She got screwed. so sorry.....the video Alucard posted. My apologies, hon. -

Addy, oh hon, you did not have to disclose that information, sweetie....but "good on you" for showing solidarity. Ravenwoodglass and Not me! and others have offered assistance with meal planning, too. I hope the OP sees we ARE IN HER CORNER and the best support she could ever have. That's all I ever tried to do. I think I am done here. My best... -

And one more thing .....because it was not lost on me, because I DO READ every single word someone writes-- Colleen, my sweet!! My love and support to you. I know we talk on PMs, but I want you to know that I hold you in my thoughts every single day. Your are a warrior princess, honey. Keep me posted. And for the record, with all due respect, I... -

IrishHeart replied to a84c72's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow. The loving members of this community have all been listening and helping the OP for weeks. She said herself she is "off and on" gluten and her many posts (and one thread just a few days ago) reflect someone who is not really understanding this is not an "on and off " option. I am a very empathetic person --to a fault sometimes-- and I am not... -

Okay, I have tears in my eyes right now. I have a hubs like yours. My recovery is all that matters to him as I am sure the OP's hubs feels the same way. If you were standing right here in front of me right now, I would give you the biggest hug. Simply put, you rock, girl! -

IrishHeart replied to a84c72's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know you are probably just kidding here, but I did not write my heartfelt post with the intent of "pounding on a newbie". I wanted her to see that she has to eliminate gluten once and for all so she can feel better --not keep dabbling in it --and it does not help the situation to have it characterized that way. -

You did not really read what I said. I did not judge you. You cannot go off gluten and then, back on. It does not work that way. You will not heal that way. That's the whole point. My grocery bill does not cost any more because I am gluten-free My grocery bill is actually less because I buy PLAIN FOOD, not gluten filled crap. We ALL... -

I am not sure why you think this is so funny, but I am going to offer you some advice now. Feel free to take it or leave it. I understand being in denial. I understand being frustrated ---and if anyone is going to give you a "poor baby" mother-hen speech, it would be me. But that is when someone is newly diagnosed and scared and needs coaching... -

Actually, this is not quite true. They do not have to disclose "hidden gluten". They only have to disclose WHEAT. The eight foods identified by the law are: Milk Eggs Fish (e.g., bass, flounder, cod) Crustacean shellfish (e.g. crab, lobster, shrimp) Tree nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, pecans) Peanuts Wheat Soybeans These... -

IrishHeart replied to Katty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, I was going to say just about everything these three wise women said, so I'll just say...you are doing everything you can and you are an amazing supportive spouse! Having one of my own has been an enormous help--I do not think I could have recovered as well without him. He's been a rock. I echo having his Vitamin B-12, FOLATE (B9), B6 (pyridoxine... -
ARCHIVED New Laboratory Tests For Those With Gluten Intolerance - Celiac.com
IrishHeart replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
"Evidence is mounting that gluten sensitivity does exist. Dr. Fasano and colleagues last year compared blood samples and intestinal biopsies from people with suspected gluten sensitivity to those with confirmed celiac disease and healthy controls, and found distinct differences in each" However.... "Confusing the picture further are private labs that... -
ARCHIVED Discrimination Against Celiacs?
IrishHeart replied to alucard4545's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Going gluten free is not a magic bullet that instantaneously heals everyone. When leading celiac specialists say" It could take 2 years or longer..." I think they are being realistic. Those of us who take longer and who have complications wish we could "hurry it up already". but patience is essential.
