ARCHIVED Most Evil Wife Ever
IrishHeart replied to Adalaide's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Wanting to keep your hubs healthy so he will live a good long life?Gasp! Yes, ADDY, you are a walking b---h. I can watch a movie without food, but in the "old days", I'd have have shared a big ole tubfull of that buttered popcorn with the hubs anyway. Not because I particularly even like it, but because it smelled good. I have been happier with... -
ARCHIVED Did I Do The Right Thing?
IrishHeart replied to bartfull's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I cannot imagine you scaring anyone so much that she will not speak to you anymore, Barty....and I know your intentions are pure and motivated by genuine concern. That said, do not feel bad about trying to help. You did a good thing here. Here's the thing: We all want to help others. Do we sometimes press too hard with family and friends? maybe... -

ARCHIVED Tortellini Recipe?
IrishHeart replied to sora's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
And here I thought I was the only one who puts nutmeg in her ricotta fillings. (I also put it many egg dishes like quiche or fritattas). I should have known you guys did it, too! -
Oh, and Irishheart? Just because you mentioned feeling sick from strong perfumes.:-) Am I recalling right that you have issues with sulfites? If that's correct, you might be interested to know that a lot of sulfite sensitive folks react to perfumes. Some have severe reactions, but most I've spoken to say their reactions are mild, often headaches, dizziness...

ARCHIVED Any Help Appreciated..
IrishHeart replied to Jodster72's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
"gastro md said with history of celiac thought it was "back" whenever I read statements such as this one, I want to scream. This GI doctor does not understand celiac at all. If you were diagnosed as a babe with celiac and you were gluten-free and then you added gluten back into your diet and you have been sick ever since, you did not just "get celiac... -
ARCHIVED Burning Skin
IrishHeart replied to Sandra Lee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had terrible burning sensations in my skin, face, scalp, trunk, feet, hands....EVERYWHERE....for 3 years and no one could tell me what it was. It started in January 2008. I felt like fire was running through my blood and I could not tolerate heavy clothing or a towel on my skin after a shower sometimes. It was just excruciating to live with. I could no... -
ARCHIVED So Frustrated
IrishHeart replied to Reddino83's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I going with ROSETAPPER on the recommendation to try a whole foods diet for the first six months. Also, many celiacs have to avoid dairy for a while because the tips of the villi are where the enzyme lactase is produced ---and this could impair your digestion of the lactose in dairy products. It may not happen everytime, but you are still newly diagnosed... -
ARCHIVED How Long Before Feeling Better?
IrishHeart replied to jeaucamom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oh hon, you've had quite a struggle. I'm sorry you had to endue all that. I sincerely hope you begin to improve soon. But, it could be a month or so to start to see improvement. I do know how hard it is --and I wish there were a "fast forward button for us all" so we could be feeling 100% a lot sooner. Your gut may need some replenishing of beneficila... -
ARCHIVED New Here And Need Some Help
IrishHeart replied to ScottR13's topic in Super Sensitive People
oh come now, when do we ever fight, dear Rosie? never! xxoo I was indeed referring to candida albicans, which will give someone thrush or some very uncomfy genitalia. And I wanted to make the distinction that diflucan is an antifungal, not an antibiotic. (I do not see how this is just a matter of semantics, but one of two different treatment... -
ARCHIVED New Here And Need Some Help
IrishHeart replied to ScottR13's topic in Super Sensitive People
I'm sorry, Rose, but I said he needs to be seen by a doctor if he has candida. I did not say that "antibiotics cannot cure the yeast infections of the skin". What I did say was he may need anti-fungals such as Diflucan. That's a different treatment protocol than antibiotics. Yeast is nasty bugger to eradicate. I know 2 people who have battled it... -
ARCHIVED How Long Before Feeling Better?
IrishHeart replied to jeaucamom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It may take a lot longer than 6-8 weeks, hon. I do not know who told you that, but it may well be 6-18 MONTHS or longer. I started to absorb foods and nutrients about 15 months after DX. EVERYONE HEALS at different rates. Younger people heal faster because there is less damage in the gut lining and other body systems. Try to be patient. Maybe... -
ARCHIVED New Here And Need Some Help
IrishHeart replied to ScottR13's topic in Super Sensitive People
I am no fan of antibiotics --as you well know--I am all for PRObiotics. I am the probiotics pusher on here! But we have no idea what he is dealing with. He refers to his issues as "allergies" for starters. Not celiac. THIS IS HIS FIRST POST. We know nothing about Scott yet or his medical history. I do not treat people and I am no doctor... -
May I suggest this thread (so I do not repeat it all and bore everyone to death? and I suggest Custom Probiotics or Culturelle DF , Digest Gold by Enzymedica and Country Life Certified G F vitamins. They are safe and work well. Hon, if you are newly DXed, give your gut some time to heal. Eat plain, fresh, whole foods for 6 months. Avoid dairy...

ARCHIVED Relief For Burning Mouth
IrishHeart replied to Mamaburke's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I lost 90 lbs. without trying (after being overweight for years ) due to malabsorption from celiac. I also had a horrible burning tongue, mouth, throat, GI tract---made me cry every day--- and no doctor could explain it. (I heard GERD, HORMONES, Sjrogen's, menopause, yeast infection, vit defs, "NO IDEA" , blah blah blah ) It burned right down to my... -

ARCHIVED New Here And Need Some Help
IrishHeart replied to ScottR13's topic in Super Sensitive People
Hi Scott and welcome! You mention 2 things: (1) yeast infections in spots all over and (2) being glutened "once and a while". How often is that? If you do have a yeast infection, well, that needs to be treated by medications and diet (meds such as diflucan, etc.) Topical treatments do not eradicate yeast. You need to see a doctor who... -

wait a second....there's an actual place called CLUCK U chicken?? brilliant And your fiance sounds like a "keeper"! best wishes. -
This is exactly the case. I did not deny her symptoms at all. I have reread this thread and no one called her a "psycho" as she has stated. I tried to explain what the word psychosomatic meant in terms of the bodily response (it's the same explanation as yours) and I tried to provide a possible and reasonable explanation for what may have happened. ...

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
for one quick second, I read this and thought, "oh, that's me after 1 drink now" -
May I just suggest something here? The word psychosomatic in medical language does not mean "psycho" or crazy or mentally ill or any other derogatory or negative word. Not at all. This is a misconception. It's a description of real symptoms (a person does not "make them up") that come about from stress or the gut/brain connection from the nervous system...

ARCHIVED Am I Re-Glutening Myself With Something Every Day Or Is This A Super Long Glutening?
IrishHeart replied to aquaholical's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This "fast forward" button?---is what all of us want. Sadly, they do not sell those on the internet (I looked) I know it's hard to be patient, and there is no quickie miracle pill to take. Bummer. It just takes time. Hang in there. Take out the foods you think are a problem right now. Wait a few weeks. Add back ONE and wait a few days before... -
