ARCHIVED Oh No, Meltdown
IrishHeart replied to Celiac Mindwarp's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
okay, let's start with this ((HUG)). Since you reintroduced the gluten in anticipation of the biopsy, it is likely this has caused major inflammation in your gut and your system. No wonder you feel so bad, hon. Some doctors will DX based solely on your medical history and the drastic symptoms caused by the gluten challenge. Any chance you have... -
Oh man, you should have gone for it, Babs!! you should have taken one for the celiac girlfriend team!!

ARCHIVED Is Teff Safe For You?
IrishHeart replied to ValeriaZ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Diana, Gluten is a protein in cereal grains. All grains have gluten. But not the type of gluten that is harmful to celiacs. Please, read this: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Is Teff Safe For You?
IrishHeart replied to ValeriaZ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Since the link you provided is to a man's website who "teaches people how to be a functional med practitioner" and who also sells products, I am more inclined to believe the Celiac research centers that assure us that teff is a safe grain. For what it's worth, I have also used teff flour in baking with no problems. Best wishes to you and your little... -
Babs, I know we have discussed this already, but I have to say it again: I am so very glad you are home !!! and that you received the proper follow up care you deserve. (we all deserve) (and on top of everything else, Dr. Fasano is rather good looking, to boot. ) Thanks for the report and I hope you continue to feel better and better...

ARCHIVED Green Peppers Or Garlic
IrishHeart replied to Jencat's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
You are replying to a thread that is over 2 years old and the OP may not see it. Just so you know. -
ARCHIVED The Choices We Make
IrishHeart replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know, hon, you have told us many times that your friends are unkind to you. I am sorry your friends continue to behave this way. (still think maybe you need a better group of friends) But the OP--whom I was addressing--is a grown woman with a large family and honestly, if we are to live with this disease for the rest of our lives, we have to assert... -

"Grumpy-free" ...Love this. Congrats on your rebound to good health! -
ARCHIVED The Choices We Make
IrishHeart replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am glad things are getting easier for you! I know you were worrying about Thanksgiving, etc. coming up. I agree with Karen, though. I have been there/done that with my own family and friends, too--and it is difficult to get others to see that gluten may be a problem for them as well. You know what though? I decided it's a conclusion they have to... -
ARCHIVED Bad Breath, Gastritis, And Dh
IrishHeart replied to cindylou7's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I second Squirmy's suggestion about probiotics for good gut balance. Have you been checked for h.pylori infection? My Dad had bouts with that and was treated for it, but despite his excellent dental hygiene & vigilance, it caused a rather foul breath for him. Once resolved, it was better. He had ulcers, gastritis and lived on maalox, zantac and... -
ARCHIVED The Choices We Make
IrishHeart replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope so, Shroomie---because I know Diana struggles with this mightily and I feel for her deeply ---as she has to defend herself constantly to family members. I guess the subtitle (to gluten or nor to gluten?) suggested a continuing dilemma to me. -
ARCHIVED The Choices We Make
IrishHeart replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am not quite sure what you are getting at here, but I think you are trying to convince yourself--or someone else--that you need to be gluten-free and you keep caving in to others who insist you do not? I notice that in many threads and posts that you continue to worry about "defending" your gluten free life. It causes you great stress, hon. What... -
ARCHIVED Dehydration
IrishHeart replied to Jodster72's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Brilliant advice!!!! I had B-12, iron and folate anemias--and yes, they all can cause those symptoms as well. And I echo the thought-do not start supplementing until your levels are checked. Nice catch, mommida -
ARCHIVED Do You Buy Kraft?
IrishHeart replied to scarlet-willow's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kraft is okay by me, too. Never had a problem and I appreciate their labeling practices. -
ARCHIVED Dehydration
IrishHeart replied to Jodster72's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I also had dehydration for quite some time, hon but I also have a hubs who pestered me to drink water all day long. When I was very dehydrated pre-DX from (I'll just say it) vomiting and the Big D, he had me drinking 16 oz. glasses of water with a tsp. of salt/a TBLS. of sugar in it to balance my electrolytes. It was that --or go to the ER for a bag of saline... -
Hey guys! I am so glad that it was helpful. I did it because we all found ourselves repeating the same info over and over again and I thought maybe it would help to find it all in one place. Just know that companies can change formulas and ingredients at any time, so ALWAYS read labels. Sticking to fresh, whole foods is best. And I owe a...

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Gee, er,um...thanks, sweets, but no thanks. I have plenty of experience in losing weight the "sick" way and it's not fun. I'll just cut back on the carbs and sweets and wear sweatpants for a few weeks. Seriously, I do hope you feel better soon! xxoo Dinner tonight: Salmon Swiss chard Apples---they are coming out our ears. Most are... -
You're welcome and please let us know if we can be of any more help. And I meant to add this on my last post: Welcome to the Forum!!

ARCHIVED So Exasperated With Lazy People...
IrishHeart replied to MitziG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is EXACTLY the situation I cited for you earlier in the thread. Exactly. And the weekends are full of them running to sporting events and she does not cook on weekends--- it's going to fast food places, diners and takeouts. The cupboards are full of junk foods. And they are always sick and tired. In this instance, I thought it was sheer laziness... -
ARCHIVED So Exasperated With Lazy People...
IrishHeart replied to MitziG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I find myself in the same situation as you, Mitzi. I offered my advice to a Mom about trying a gluten-free/DF diet with less processed sugary foods for her girls, (but only because she ASKED me and cried to me about their behavior repeatedly). I had witnessed the way these sweet kiddos bounced off walls and became cranky and wild and sent to their... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That's right, A! SORA! Girl, where the heck ARE those muumuus anyway? Geesh, looks like a package sent through the Canadian postal service is slower in coming than a compliment from a mother-in-law. Dinner tonight: lettuce and water. -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I hope you feel better ADALAIDE!! xxoo I know you will think this sounds BLECHY right now, but if I do not share this, I will burst. I had hub's cousins here for a reunion (as in--- they have not seen each other for 40 years --when they were kids) so I "did it up". Dinner was: Marinated, herbed roasted peppers & goat cheese on crostini. Salmon... -
I think we can all agree on this: if something makes you feel lousy, don't do it anymore. I think we can all agree on this too: just because this reaction happened to the OP, it doesn't mean it will happen to all of us. We could speculate all day long what caused her to feel ill, but we will never know the answer. In regards to the technology...

ARCHIVED Any Help Appreciated..
IrishHeart replied to Jodster72's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
At my last checkup, my GI doctor told me he had read in a recent journal article that inflammation from a gluten exposure can last as long as 6 months. I believe it. I have obvious symptoms for 3 weeks and do not feel quite right for a while. The first suggestion I always offer is: try to be patient with your healing process. It is an up and down... -
Well said. I would not have believed it possible myself, except for having had success with lowering muscle/joint/connective tissue pain levels with meditation, deep breathing and gentle yoga. I cannot take pain medications (I have tried them all) and I pooh-poohed the whole idea, thinking my brain could never "be tricked" into such a thing. I tried to...
