  1. Honestly, sweets, I am going to tell you like it is: It's an up- and- down road, this healing thing ---and it can be very frustrating, but learn to trust your body. Sometimes, it's hard to tell. A reaction may occur 24 hours later...so, you ask yourself "was it the banana I just ate? or the cheese last night? or the potato from dinner?"..blah blah blah...
  2. I am just going to offer you all this one thought. I am sensitive to trace gluten and I was very ill for many years before I was diagnosed. That said, please keep in mind that healing the intestines takes a LONG time. Some say 6 months to 2 years--or more. It just is what it is. It took me nearly 15 months on a strict gluten-free diet to start to absorb...
  3. I am sure many regions are suffering because of the hot summer/drought, but the local farmer here (I'm in upstate NY) did not raise his prices. Still 50 cents an ear. I remember my Mom would pay 10 cents an ear and the produce guy --- who came around on a truck to our street in Boston----would give her a deal: a dozen for a buck.(showing my age here...
  4. Could be using CDate...looking for the purrfect dude? You did the right thing by Gracie and she is home now. Maybe her skin issues resolved because you gave her good healthy food with omegas. Lucky kitty --finding Karen. And, that's a very nice fish, K. Clever girl.
  5. yum....alfredo!! Not today, however. Meatloaf (the ground turkey kind) Roasted potatoes Corn (before the summer ends and it's gone) and (not me, just hubs)-- a canoli made at the gluten-free bakery/restaurant near us. I am not partaking. I'm not. I mean it. Signed, Chubster McFattypants
  6. This is GREAT news!!! I know what you mean. When I was very ill, I could not walk the length of my driveway (160 ft.) without being short of breath, just gasping for air and my whole body was shaking from the strain of this small activity. I was a burning mess of weak muscles and bone pain. I could not lift my arms over my head or dress myself at one point...
  7. As Peter said, airborne flour can linger in the air and if you did inhale it, it would indeed travel into the GI tract. I felt woozy in the baking section of the supermarket when I was very ill from celiac and shortly after my diagnosis, but in retrospect, I was woozy all the time and so sick, that I cannot state for certainty that it was caused ...
  8. I use Custom Probiotics and switch up and use DF Culturelle sometimes. Both good (IMHO)
  9. I dunno who mentioned this book to me, (it could even be earlier in the thread for all I know ) but Jenny Lawson's Let's Pretend this Never Happened is knock- down drag out hysterically funny stuff. She uses the F word a lot for those of you who do not wish to read that word. I mean, it is " laugh out loud and dramatically read parts to the...
  10. I am the "probiotics Pusher" on here ---so yes, I say take them! A good gluten-free, DF one.
  11. ((hug)) I can honestly say..."I get it". You're going to be okay, hon...hang tough.
  12. I am going to tell myself this from now on!!! thanks, Mitzi. and as far as the doc not knowing celiac disease is an AI disease?..well, after all I have been through with doctors through the years, this neither surprises me nor even angers me....it just makes me want to weep for anyone who has deal with this guy in the future. I talked with my GI...
  13. Everyone rebounds at different rates, hon. My experience may not be the norm. I was unDxed for a long time and have a lot of damage to repair. I know it is difficult at first. It's an up and down road, unfortunately. Hang in there and drink water and stick to foods that are plain and simple.
  14. Sounds like you are making good progress and yes, absorption will improve and those vitamin levels should normalize more rapidly. Hang in there!
  15. I found the recipe in The Gluten Free Edge by Peter Bronski and Melissa McLean Jory, MNT but it is also cited here, on her website: http://www.glutenfreeforgood.com/blog/out-west-chili-con-carne
  16. It is!....want me to send the recipe to you?
  17. holy smokes....I am actually quoting myself! Does anyone ever do that?? well, I have to share this info.... Bison chili..is outrageously delicious!
  18. Just my opinion, but yes, please, try to eat some protein of some kind. You are getting over the "bug", right? Hope you feel better soon.
  19. I feel for you. I was glutened August 19--and just starting to feel better now. Hope you feel better soon. And yes, I would dump the dairy for a while to see if it helps. Best wishes!
  20. Hope it helps! She really knows "her stuff"
  21. Hope you feel better soon! I am going to try Peter and Kelli Bronski's Bison Chili recipe tonight.
  22. Sadly, I also have symptoms for many weeks after I am accidentally CCed. (including having my hair shed--ugh) I had a check up with the GI doc yesterday after some blood work and I told him I was glutened at a restaurant on August 19 and I have just started to feel better. I asked him: Is this the norm? Other people report that they rebound faster. This...
  23. My apologies!!!---I missed that statement completely. So sorry. Thanks for pointing that out to me. No wonder I was so confused. Ok, got it now. Note to self: do not read posts when tired. OP, so sorry you were not told the first time as you should have been. That's just criminal, IMHO
  24. Not exactly. Peanuts are legumes. Cashews are tree nuts. If the OP is ALLERGIC to cashews, that is a whole different story.
  25. Yes, of course I would believe a biopsy that was positive for celiac. That's how it is usually diagnosed. Biopsies are not falsely negative. (that I know of) I am confused....why are you eating gluten 13 years after your diagnosis?? **Edited by IH: kindly disregard! I missed the explanation why. My sincere apologies, IH
